GETAWAY- Recent Cruisers?

I've tried searching but can't find anything recent about cruising on the Getaway.

We loved this ship when she was new, but haven't sailed on her in the last 3 years.  Any recent cruisers have information or pictures since re-furbishment?

Exciting to hear they have added Syd Norman's Pour House.   How was the casino?  (Have three sea days....may spend some time in there😉)

Very much looking forward to our cruise on her next month!

We just go off of her in October.  Beautiful and well maintained.

Also following,  as we will sailing December 13th.  Interested in overall experience,  MDR, buffet and speciality dining. Pictures would be great also. Am I asking too much?

No I don't think so😁

You can read this thread...has lots of pictures too. We were on the getaway in June just after the dry dock and everything was beautiful.

Thanks for the link to this thread!

Pictures are great, but still hoping for MORE info😁

Just had our first snowfall here.  It's melted already but  I'm counting the days until we are on the Getaway!

We just got off a couple of weeks ago. The Casino specifically was pretty large but very smokey. They actually had Pai Gow which I have never seen on a cruise ship before. They have a ton of slot machines and two sections of table games. Syd Norman's was pretty cool. We went there for Rock Trivia and stayed for Rock the House....very talented musicians. We actually liked to hang out next door at Headliners for the Dueling Pianos.

Specialty dining - Ocean Blue and Le Bistro were very good. We did the Wine Dinner Show and Cirque Steam dinner show which were pretty good as well (glad we did them). Teppanyaki was actually a disappointment (I haven't gotten there yet in my review)for us even though we have had good experiences on other ships. We were in the Haven and loved the Haven Bar and Haven Restaurant. We never ate at the MDR and the buffet was fine...seemed exactly like our other two NCL cruises.

Thermal Spa was fantastic but seemed more crowded than on smaller ships.

Most of the events (trivia, game shows, etc.) are held in the Atrium which is overlooked by O'Sheehans so we usually got drinks from our favorite bartender and watched from up there.

It was a Baltic cruise so we didn't use the pools or slides.

What else can I answer?

Thanks fastpitchdad!    Looking forward to Ocean Blue and Syd Normans.    Love that we can now use one of our Specialty Dining meals in Ocean Blue without an up charge.  Also hope to have Lobster Rolls at the walk-up window on the waterfront.

Was there a good selection of 'newer' slot games?  I like Buffalo Gold and Dancing Drums.  (I did pretty good on D Drums on Bliss....made the cruise extra fun!)

It would be great to hear what other entertainment there is besides Cirque and Burn the Floor.  We saw them on Breakaway and are looking forward to something new.

There is Million Dollar Quartet that runs days 5 and 6 of a 7 days cruise.  It is about the night that ELvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash all recorded in one studio one night.  It was really entertaining.  We saw it in 2017 on the Getaway.  Yes, it is still playing the same shows inlate 2019.  We are going again over Thanksgiving week this time out of NOLA.  It's a great ship, but looking forward to what is new after the dry dock in May 2019.

I am almost certain there was dancing drums (that is the Asian themed one with the different jackpots right?) and I *think* there was Buffalo Gold. The slots I am familiar with here in Western Washington were not available (like Anchorman, Midnight Matinee, Copper Drop, etc....the different themed bonus slots) and they mostly seemed older. They had a ton of Wheel of Fortune type slots.

Syd Normans is well done and you should get to enjoy the outside areas on that level that we couldn't because of the weather.

We were on the Getaway in July.  We ate in the MDR for breakfast only, the food was good and the service was excellent.  I had eggs Benedict one morning, the lox and bagel breakfast, I can't remember the rest of what I had for breakfast.  We ate at Ocean Blue, La Cucina, The Tepanyaki Restaurant and Moderno.  My favorite was Ocean Blue and my husband's was Moderno.  We would go to the buffet for either breakfast or a quick snack.  The food at the buffet was fine, not fabulous and not horrible.  I really liked the french fries.

Thank you Redsky. Glad you had a good time.  Can't wait to get on the Getaway.  Did you eat in the MDR for lunch or dinner?

We ate in the MDR for lunch once, and the food and service was good.  When we were on the Breakaway (the sister ship to the Getaway) we had dinner in the MDR a few times due to having our young Twins with us.  Since it was a couple of years ago I can't really remember what we ate but I do remember not being disappointed at all.  Oh and I just remembered we ate dinner in the Tropicana when we were on the Getaway this past summer and it was great.  I had a pasta dish and my husband had either steak or seafood (we had a few pre-dinner drinks so my recollection is slightly foggy 🙂 ).  I really liked the live music.  We also ate at the Noodle Bar a bunch of times, that was really, really, really good.  When we went there at 7:30 the hostess told us they were full (people had made reservations and not shown up yet), but to come back in 15 minutes when the reservations release.  We were able to get in at 7:45.  I really liked the food there and so did my husband.

Is there not still an upcharge for a couple of menu items?  Surf and Turf, lobster and shrimp cocktail are ones that I am thinking of in particular?

There was for a little while, but on our September cruise (Gem) no more upcharges for shrimp cocktail and Surf & Turf (Lobster).

Others have reported the same for Ocean Blue.

We didn't have an upcharge and my wife ordered the Surf and Turf. The "bill" at the end was something like $180.
