MASS ON HAL

I have noticed that contributors who post the WHEN and WHERE are showing the daily Mass is at 5:00PM whether the ship is at sea or in port. It is always in the Hudson Room on the larger ships and in the Wijang theatre on the S and R class ships. This is a change as the rule used to be that if the ship is at sea the Mass was ay 8AM and in port at 8AM the Mass was at 5PM.

On our Veendam cruise a few months ago, all masses were at 5pm. I assumed it was a one off scenario, but perhaps not?

Just last week and 2 weeks prior to that, Mass was at 5 pm on port days, and 8am on sea days on Zuiderdam.  We were so lucky on both cruises to have a couple of great Canadian priests.  One of the special “perks” of sailing on HAL.

On our Sept. 14 day Alaska cruise ALL Masses were at 5 PM (even on Sundays when it was a sea day (twice).  I did not like this, but at least they had Mass.

I  am glad to see the Zuiderdam did the Masses at 8 AM on sea days.  I will be on the Nieuw Statendam next week and I will report back.

On the recent 29 day Yokohama to Sydney EXC cruise beginning Aug. 28th all Masses were at 5pm.  We were very disappointed as were several others. When we and others tried to discuss what we thought of as a significant change from all cruises we have been on with the Cruise Director what we got would be best described as a run-around.  Very dissapointed.

It sounds like it is pretty much system wide. .the one disadvantage is that if one arrives at ten or later and are in port til late at night, not too many will be at the 5PM Mass.

Our Masses were at 5pm each day on the Nieuw Amsterdam for the Oct 26, 2019 sailing in the Caribbean.

It would sure be nice if they gave you some leeway in choosing Mass times.  5PM each day is also cutting it really close for early seating.,

I'll be happy to see this change, so long as allowances are made for those days with a late port arrival/departure. It means I can go to Mass now on sea days, which was never possible in the past. No way can I be awake by 8:00 AM on a sea day, let alone be dressed enough to leave the cabin.

If you get the Holland App off the app store you can see what time Mass is each day.  We are going on the KDam and it is either 5 pm, 4 pm or 8 am depending on the days.

On the Eurodam last month, Mass was at 5pm each day (sea days and port days).  I agree with RuthC.  I'm more likely to attend at 5pm rather than 8am.  And as noted above, I appreciate that HAL continues to offer this "perk."

I was on the Eurodam last week and all masses were scheduled for the 5 PM slot.  They had the interdenominational service scheduled at the same time on Sunday, but in a different room.  Enjoy your time on the NS Father.

I look forward to the day when I'll get to assist you as your deacon. It's such a privilege and HAL deserves a lot of credit for continuing with it. For some of us it's what sets HAL uniquely apart.

Just off the Nieuw Statendam and Mass was at 5pm every day.  

 

I did notice that on Saturday (11/9), the day before arriving at Port Everglades, it was held in the World Stage!

I am now on the Nieuw Statendam.  On our First Sea Day we had Mass at 8AM in the morning   Today andtomorrow it is at % PM in the Hudson Room
