Cruising with Broken Bones

So... broke my arm a few days ago and now in a cast. Called the cruise line and they suggested a medical certificate.

 

Has anyone travelled with a cast? any issues?

Sorry can't be more help - I've never broken anything - but make sure you have  enough OTC and prescription meds that you may need.

We've never heard of a "medical certificate".
We've cruised with some health problems, both chronic and temporary, and we simply notified the special needs department of each cruise line in advance.  Some have a form to fill out, but it's not for medical "certification"; it's so they know what assistance you might need.

And DO make sure that you have enough pain meds for what might be extra activity, etc.

Had a broken ankle one cruise, didn't do anything special. Speaking to staff/other passengers, it happens often enough.

If your Doctor declares you fit to travel, you should be ok with cruise line and travel insurance.  Above all enjoy.

Consider the practicalities like showering in the small cabin bathroom while keeping your cast dry. Take whatever you will need to may things easier for you.

Cruised with a broken ankle, in my own wheelchair on Princess. No problems at all, ships staff were wonderful, felt like royalty!

Had a broken bone (in the back) every cruise, but one with a broken ankle, never had any problems above the normal.

 

Oh forgot to mention, broke a toe one cruise when the ship rolled and I kicked a sun bed, hurt like hell couldnt put a shoe on for days, but still no real issue.

If you haven't got a waterproof cast already, I suggest contacting a physio once the swelling has subsided.

Cruising with broken bones?  Take care in the event of rough seas, hang onto those rails !  Tendering could be dodgy, take care there as well.
