Sorry.....ANOTHER Voom question...or two...

Ok, So we are looking at the "sales" for Voom Packages and need some clarification!

Apparently it makes a difference what ship you are on from what I've read. We are on the Oasis, with 8 rooms in a row and hope to open the balcony dividers for easy access to each other. Being all one big, fairly happy family, my husband and I were considering purchasing four surf and stream packages. We figured if somebody wanted to use the internet they could just check in to see who's on, but realize that could quickly become a PITA. Is there a way to know if all four lines are being used so you need not worry about knocking another person off? Do you get four access codes, so perhaps two rooms could share one code to make it easier?

Thanks so much for any advice!

No, you only get an error screen when you log on notifying you that all logins are being used.

Yeah, if someone forgets to "logoff" it well be a big problem.  We shared the 4-device package, and it worked well, because everyone understood they had to logoff when switching devices.

In your case, if someone is logged on, turns off their laptop and goes to lunch, that computer, for all practical purposes, is still logged on.  With 8 staterooms, you need to get 2 4-device packages and assign one to each stateroom.

With regard to 8 staterooms with open dividers, that could be an issue also.  We did that on one cruise with 5 balconies, and it was a PIA because you had to keep your curtains closed at all times for your own privacy.  If you're trying to get dressed and everyone is walking willy nilly past your stateroom, looking in, it's not good.  🍷

Pretty sure that on Oasis, that device would be bumped by the next device wanting to login.

So now, do I understand correctly, on the Oasis there is no way to tell if service is being used by others, so whoever decides to log on will unknowingly bump somebody off ?

You do get a notice that the device limit has been reached and you are about to bump someone.

Is that just Oasis.  On Allure last year with the 2 device package and if a third tried to log on it would not let them.  Someone had to log off first.  With the one device package it did bump you off when someone else tried to log on.

I think the new default which @twangster mentioned in some of his VOOM related posts is that you get a notice that you reached the limit of the package and are about to bump someone, it's not automatic (like the one device one), but you can bump them. Not sure when this will reach all ships.

We were on both Brilliance and Jewel with the shared 4 device package, and I can tell you from personal experience that when 4 people are logged on and you try to log on, you will get a prompt that basically says "so sad, too bad, 4 devices are already logged on" or words to that effect, and you can forget about it.  Maybe it's on that class of ship.

On Celebrity with the 1 device plan, if I tried to log on to another device, I would get prompted to say that one device is already on line -- would you like to log off that device and log on to this one?  That was with user name & password, but a little different since Royal uses an access code.  🍷

A number of ships have been updated.  I think they started in the Caribbean.  The newer platform has done away with “royal-wifi” and switched to “WiFi-Guest-Shipname”.   This started so two ships could share CocoCay but even Ovation got it on the west coast this summer.

They’ve rolled out that change pretty quickly.

On the updated ships you get the option to kick a device off when you’ve reached your limit.

The new platform has a nuance for Diamond or higher guests who pre-purchase Voom.

In the past you could create one account for your cruise planner purchased plan and you could create a second plan using your free Diamond or Diamond Plus days or discount.  I used to buy Surf & Stream in the CP then use my D+ time on a second device Surf only.

Now it knows your purchased in the cruise planner and that’s your only option for your cabin and name.

The problem is you can’t create a second account for your name and cabin, it knows you purchased Voom already.

The only way to use your C&A free days is to visit the Voom specialist and have them convert your plan to add another device but it has to match the purchased plan.  You can’t have 1 plan at S&S and another plan at S only.

That sounds like it is with the 1-device package, not the 4-device package.  🍷

On Brilliance when I had the 4-device Surf & Stream package, my wife could use my two D+ days of Surf internet.  🍷

Same deal once you hit the limit.  Two device plan, three device plan, four device plan.  Once you hit the limit you gotta kick one of them off.

Brilliance in February hadn't been updated yet and I was able to use the old ways to use my diamond days.

The new upgrade started rolling out late spring early summer.  No idea if Brilliance has been touched yet at this point.

Friends are getting off Brilliance this weekend and going over to Oasis.  I'll ask if they had the old login in screens and "royal-wifi".

Thanks.  That will certainly make it easier for me to kick the kids off.

We just bought the CLASSIC SODA AND VOOM ONE DEVICE for $17.00 a day for my wife and I.

We are both Diamond Plus, so was this a good buy or not, how much free internet would we have received for being Diamond plus?  My wife will use the internet probably more then me, so would we be better off just getting the 1 package for $17.00 and maybe myself just getting the soda package for $7.00 a day?

You each would have received two 24 hour periods of continuous internet use.

What if we bought this package(Voom Surf Package for 2 devices $16.99 per day)  and 2 soda packages.($6.50 per day)

That's $29.99 a day compared to $34.00 a day and we will both have access to the internet and soda package the whole 7 days.

Does that sound correct?

Sometimes it will bump you and other times it will prompt you that you've exceeded your device limit

It randomly did both options this past September on Allure with our 4-device package

Correct....sometimes it does come out cheaper buying them individually
