Denise😊 We are hoping later a break in the rain will happen and we will walk to Seaport Village. We had another miss at the Pinnacle today at breakfast. Seated and served water, OJ and pastry quickly. After 20 minutes of no one coming by to take our order, we got up and left. It wasn’t busy so really no excuse. Told the Assistant manager Paul as we left why we were leaving. He tried to get us to stay & be served but I’d had enough. Went to Lido to eat then Neptune lounge to graze and have my latte. Can you smell the flower blooming in the Neptune Lounge, it’s so fragrant today!!

We hold ourselves responsible for the rain as we brought it from Vancouver!! Yes, they do need it and have been getting their share in San Diego lately including the 4 days days we were here before the cruise. We are used to rain but don’t want to get our feet soaked-we have coats & umbrellas if/when it lightens up a bit.

We try to be very low key people but it did frustrate me to be ignored for 20 minutes. I am sure it will be rectified but has left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth for our daily breakfast there.

We’ve only really seen her during the Ask Captain questions-she’s great. Has a very good speaking voice when we hear her announcements. Thanks for following along. It’s been different having wifi for this back to back. It’s been great to do this but also been great to keep in touch with our kids and especially to receive photos and videos of our 4 month old granddaughter! Thanks for the clarification. I thought I had read elsewhere on CC that HAL was doing away with the combined position but based on your information that isn't true on your cruise. Thanks again for taking us all along on your journey. It's been fun!

We’ve made reservations for later this week to try the Canaletto for a change (haven’t for several years) and we have a reservation at Pinnacle for dinner another day. The time goes by so quickly. The flowers in the Neptune lounge are so pretty.

When you try the Canaletto, let them know if you want to be out by a certain time. Service was very slow when we went. But we enjoyed the food. The other thing we found odd was that the waitstaff and wine steward would reach across the table to serve hot soup & dishes and pour wine, instead of walking around the table to do that. We were not in a booth, and the path was totally clear. I actually asked the waitress not to pour my coffee from the other side of the table. All I could think of was a sudden lurch of the ship could result in one of my dinner companions or me being scalded or covered with red wine. sevenseasnomad Posted December 7, 2019 #244 Share Posted December 7, 2019 (edited) Hope the weather improves, so you can enjoy your day in San Diego. Loved that city when I visited with my mom almost 20 years ago. If I keep the Koningsdam cruise I'm scheduled to take in 2021, I'll get to visit San Diego again. I'm debating whether to do that one or Ryndam in 2021. I don't know if the bank account can support two cruises so close together though. We'll see. We keep looking out the balcony and it stopped for a brief time and we almost went out then the rain started again. I’d prefer going just before dark to see the Christmas lights so fingers still crossed. We looked for another umbrella in our cabin for hubby (I have a small one for me) but there isn’t one-don’t Neptune suites still get umbrellas? I’ll have to ask. Oh goodness-tough decision for 2021. Cut back on a few things and hopefully you could do both!

Cut back on a few things and hopefully you could do both! Ha, ha! Cut back on a few things? My friends already accuse me of being the most miserly person they know! I rarely, if ever, eat out, take my lunch to work every day, use so little water and electricity that my bills are under $100 each month. When I bought a new car after DH died (an express wish of his for me to do), they almost fainted. Of course, I got an economy model. Yet, when they bemoan that they can't afford cruises (I generally take 2-3 a year), I point out that they rarely bring their lunches to work and enjoy eating out for dinner, going to plays, movies etc. To try 4 cruises in a year may stretch my finances more than I'm willing to go because I also save a certain portion each month, but thanks for the suggestion. I wish my son would follow your advice. He can only afford one cruise a year because he splurges constantly.

Rare Andi Land Posted December 8, 2019 #250 Share Posted December 8, 2019 On 12/3/2019 at 5:04 PM, Kelownabccan said: OH DEAR....just go this....what a bummer.......too late to cancel and the weather in SAN looks crappy....was looking to some sun.... Dear Valued Guest: We look forward to welcoming you on board Oosterdam for your upcoming cruise While we are in port in San Diego before your cruise we will be performing maintenance on one of the ship’s Azipod propellers. While this in no way affects the safety of the ship or our guests and crew, which is our highest priority, we must complete these repairs before the ship can depart for your voyage. To allow time for this work, some adjustments to our upcoming itinerary have been necessary. We will now remain in port overnight on Saturday, December 7 and depart San Diego on Sunday, December 8, at 6:00 PM. As a result of our late departure from San Diego we will no longer be able to call to Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, on Wednesday, December 11, and will reverse the port order of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico and Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Our revised itinerary is now as follows: Date Port Arrival Departure Saturday, December 7 San Diego, California, U.S. Overnight Sunday, December 8 San Diego, California, U.S. 6:00 PM Monday, December 9 At Sea Tuesday, December 10 Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico 10:00 AM 6:00 PM Wednesday, December 11 Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico Noon 9:00 PM Thursday, December 12 At Sea Friday, December 13 At Sea Saturday, December 14 San Diego, California, U.S. 7:00 AM We sincerely apologize for these changes and realize that the cancellation of a port of call, regardless of the reason, is disappointing. We sympathize with our guests whenever an itinerary revision is required and we are unable to take you to all of the destinations you expect to visit. As a gesture of concern for your experience and gratitude for your understanding, each guest will receive $100.00 USD as a refundable onboard credit applied to your shipboard account. The onboard credit cannot be redeemed for cash or used in the Casino, but may be used toward all purchases in the bars, boutiques, and photo gallery, as well as spa treatments and shore excursions. Each guest will also receive the refundable portion of the taxes, fees and port expenses associated with Mazatlán. For those guests with Holland America Line tours booked for Mazatlán, your shipboard folio will be credited automatically with your refund. We are working with our tour operators to reschedule Holland America Line tours for Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, and if your tour is rescheduled or cancelled you will be advised on board. Guests will be free to come and go from the ship while we are in San Diego. A complimentary shuttle will be available from the port to the Gaslamp Quarter/Downtown on Saturday evening and during the day on Sunday. We will also have San Diego shore excursions available for Sunday, which you can learn about and book once you are on board. We regret any disappointment these changes may cause, and look forward to our voyage together. Thank you for choosing Holland America Line. Kind regards, Holland America Line We just got off the Oosterdam today and have a late flight out. We spent the day at the USS Midway Museum and it was great.
