taram Posted December 19, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2019 This is a first.................we leave on the Zuiderdam this Sunday and so far; no room assignment. I checked the luggage tags, boarding pass, everywhere. Nada. I haven't called - maybe this is an upgrade fairy sort of phenomenon? Or is this something I shouldn't hold my breath about since we booked an N category casino rate guarantee and they're just waiting to squeeze us into the sardine-iest room available? Glass half full - half empty?

jb008 Posted December 19, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 19, 2019 I was told by my TA (cruise focused agency) that room assignment can happen as late as at the pier and to not worry if there's nothing assigned yet. Bright side is that if it hasn't been assigned yet it's likely a full cruise, so you're going to be assigned based on last minute cancellations. Reading between the lines with that, odds of getting a better room are actually higher since you (and us) will be assigned based on what's available versus a revenue management model. WackyWayne Posted December 19, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 19, 2019 It might have something to do with the troubled Nieuw Amsterdam and HAL wanting to keep as many options open as possible until the last minute? Possibly moving folks from NA to Zuiderdam?
Krazy Kruizers Posted December 19, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 19, 2019 Hope you get a nice cabin.

stratixman Posted December 19, 2019 #12 Share Posted December 19, 2019 Curious. If you don't get a room assignment until you show up at the pier how will they check your luggage outside the terminal? I don't recall porters having any info that isn't printed on your check-in documents. Good luck and have a great cruise.

The porters will have an updated list of passengers and cabins that can be checked so that the cabin number can be handwritten on a luggage tag.
taram Posted December 19, 2019 Author #14 Share Posted December 19, 2019 Just checked and we've been assigned a room - it's an L category 5008. So, a bit more than the N we expected but nothing too 'fairy' worthy. Happy not to think about it anymore and just get to packing 🙂
Homosassa Posted December 19, 2019 #15 Share Posted December 19, 2019 Be prepared to clearly hear any music from the stage as you are above the stage flies. You will also feel more motion in the cabin as it is forward (bring motion sickness meds if you are prone to seasickness).

Hmm, I would be surprised if the noise carried 2 floors up, but it would be worthwhile to bring earplugs just in case. Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂

If anything bring ear plugs BUT 2 floors up with the stage I really doubt any noise at all! As advised it is always good to bring motion sickness meds. You will have a awesome cruise and SANTA CAME THROUGH! Bon Voyage and Smooth Sailings Denise😊

I was in a similar cabin on a higher deck on the Zuiderdam and we could hear the music.

DeeniEncinitas Posted December 20, 2019 #24 Share Posted December 20, 2019 Homosassa, I appreciate your concerns and giving sound advise, but what happened to you with your stateroom above World Stage might not be for them. But I have never been in a stateroom up front so I really don’t know. If I was in that situation and got a response from you I would then start to worry about something I have no control over. It’s Christmas and she is going in a wonderful cruise! Santa came through Denise😊 I do appreciate your advise and maybe she can switch her room by calling HAL
