Sorry Muffin Posted January 1, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2020 I am thinking about getting a new piece of checkin luggage, and have some questions someone might be able to answer.. I currently have a soft sided (extendqblea0 on with only 2 wheels, and know I want 4 wheels spinners? I. was wondering if there is any less than 10 lbs? Which is best soft sided or hard sided? I'm not going on my cruise until July, so I have time to decide Thank you Mary
ZoeyVictoria Posted January 1, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 1, 2020 (edited) IT World’s Lightest 8 spinner. The 22” weighs 4.07 pounds, but is sold out other than a few colors on Amazon. The larger sizes are also very light. Edited January 1, 2020 by ZoeyVictoria
Dancingnurse79 Posted January 2, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2020 Just don’t buy cheap. I got a 3 set of hard sided suitcases and one of the wheels on the largest size caved in when I had something moderately heavy in it.
shutterbug63 Posted January 2, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2020 I have the Travelpro Maxilite 5 hardside; the 29" is just under 10 lbs. It's a four wheel spinner. I have it and I love it. They do have smaller sizes than 29".

ZoeyVictoria Posted January 2, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2020 Thank you! It has appeared on several “Best luggage in 2019” lists and is hard to find. I ordered last week with a delivery date of 1 to 2 months for the 22”, the larger ones seem to be easier to purchase.
molly361 Posted January 2, 2020 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2020 We also use the IT luggage
SRF Posted January 2, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2020 I have been using Delsey for a few years, but had some issues with zipper wear, due to the design. They just redesigned that line, and it is now called CruiseLite. I switched to Briggs an Riley. NOT cheap, but lifetime warranty for ALL damage. Even damage inflicted by airlines or you. Rare bobmacliberty Posted January 2, 2020 #9 Share Posted January 2, 2020 Big fans of Away luggage. Lightweight, sturdy, and have a nice compression system inside.
Midwest Sunseeker Posted January 2, 2020 #10 Share Posted January 2, 2020 We bought an IT bag two years ago. We have been amazed at how well it holds up both with airlines and cruise port to ship transport. We use it many times a year. It is light grey and shows the marks but we love the light weight. We recently changed our carry ons to IT. We bought all of ours at TJMAXX.
Rare FlyerTalker Posted January 2, 2020 #11 Share Posted January 2, 2020 Rather than just focus on brands, I suggest you make a determination between ABS and polycarbonate. A couple of web pages to help you with that decision. https://expertworldtravel.com/polycarbonate-vs-abs-luggage/ https://flappingturtle.com/abs-vs-polycarbonate-luggage-difference/ https://www.luggageandsuitcase.com/difference-between-polycarbonate-and-abs/ And as to "best"....that completely depends on what YOUR definition of best is. For some, it's durability first. Others prioritize weight, features, and price. No one can say what is "best" for you.
iancal Posted January 2, 2020 #12 Share Posted January 2, 2020 Just bought our second Eagle Creek light weight rolling duffle (37L). Very happy with the first so we bought a second. One thing we learned when shopping....all the labels seem to say lightweight or lighter. It is meaningless. You need to compare the weights...often found in the small print on the back of the tag! SbbquilterUT Posted January 2, 2020 #13 Share Posted January 2, 2020 Also consider where you travel - personally I don’t like 4 wheels when traveling over cobblestone or brick sidewalks and managing on and off trains, have seen many a bag with at least 1 wheel missing. iancal Posted January 2, 2020 #14 Share Posted January 2, 2020 Agree. We do a fair amount of independent land travel in Europe and Asia. Two inline wheels, good quality, are a must. No interest in spinners based on our travel habits.
crystalspin Posted January 3, 2020 #15 Share Posted January 3, 2020 Our IT 2-wheel carryons have held up wonderfully for going on five years. I just bought this one: https://www.ebags.com/product/it-luggage/stitched-squares-268-expandable-lightweight-checked-spinner-luggage/367015?productid=10708672 Looking forward to checking a bag while travelling with my mom. Or for those European super-light carryon allowances. The price was right and the weight is 5lb2oz. And I figure I will be able to see it on the carousel!
