Really enjoying your review as always.  Seems like you're having a great cruise.

I love how you captured the cast for Cats.  I really enjoy theater and keep every program for the shows that I attend.  It's a souvenir plus it's interesting reading the actors' background.  On the cruise ships, they never have the program handout and just display the cast on the screen so it's great that you were able to capture it.

Btw..haven't seen the show since I was a kid, but I must say that the costumes look amazing.

Had dinner in Giovanni's last night, very good. 

It was a comp from one of the dining room Asst Maitre de.  Laura had knitted a baby set for his wife. We were hoping to see her, but she went home in December.  Baby due in July, they are both very excited.

 

Yesterday's free drink count was 2 Heineken at lunch, and 3 Capers at Happy Hour/dinner. Turns out the free drinks in casino dont get utilized as much as i guessed.

 

Don't feel bad that Royal isnt making money off of us for food and drink, i seem to have another massage booked for later this morning, Laura got her hair done on formal night, she bought a dress last night, and I bought her a $4 bag of M&M's a couple days ago. I'm sure our account is around $600

Forgot to share my thoughts on Aqua80.

 

I prefer it to Hiro, definitely better than Fine Line.

They still have a bunch of diving, around 20 springboard dives in the beginning, good synchronized swimming, quite a few dives from the middle platform, and the two high dives at the end. 

 

The aerial act is interesting, I'll leave it at that. But I could tell how it was going to end😉

At least we didn't get drenched.

 

The strobe lights were minimal, the slack line team was fun, and the high wire was ok. I had moved under it on deck 7. Nice view.

 

And the music was great. 👍

Like I said, way better than Fine Line

CATS

 

Thouroughly enjoyed it. Some of the singing was off, but dancing was great. Memory brought down the house. It started slow, but picked up when it needed to.

 

My biggest issue was the audience. The late comers, and the folks who got up to leave at the end. Both those groups screwed up the Cast coming into the audience. No bueno.

 

The amount of people that came into theater during the overture was shocking. Lower section was packed, but there they were trying to find seats in the dark.  

 

The folks that left early were almost all the same. Senior couples with husband leading the way. They even dressed similar.  Guy in shorts and golf shirt, wife in pantsuit. The guy usually had a ball cap on as well. I hate to stereotype, but that was my impression. 

 

The applause at the completion of most numbers, even the dances was encouraging.  

And i haven't heard any grumbling about the show this morning.

 

Looking forward to the matinee 🐱

Just like shows on Broadway they should not seat people after the show has started and should make an announcement that you can not be in the aisles at the beginning and end so as not to interfere with the cast and for the casts safety.

Here are the changes as best as I can tell

Most are OK, but one isn't 

 

Bustopher Jones is out. I can live with that.

 

Battle of Pekes and Policles is gone, only loss is Tugger playing the bagpipes, that was funny

 

Growltiger is gone. I know that wad to be expected, and for the most part, I don't miss it. I do miss Gridlebone though. 

 

And lastly,  they dropped in my opinion one of the key moments of the musical.

 

At the end of Growltiger, Gus comes back on stage and had a few lines. Something like 'I could do it again, I could do it again" 

Now he just shrugs his shoulders and walks off stage. The movie was like that. Very dissapointed. 

 

The meaning here, is that he is at the end of his life, and can't do it again. It is more subtle but just as haunting as Memory. To not include it is a travesty. In my opinion. I guess it hits home as you get older. 

 

I'm actually sitting on 6 overlooking Promenade and typing this brings a tear to my eye. 😓

thanks, that would be good. I always hate making my wife’s meal longer when she has to wait on me to find the chef. I usually start eating as she is finishing up.

My suggestion...don't try in manual.  Crank up  the ISO to 1600 (I'm assuming that's not a problem for the 80D...you may be able to go higher) and shoot in shutter priority.  You can then change the aperture on the fly if you want to play with depth of field.  Just be sure that you have a fast enough shutter speed at 1600 if you close down the aperture.  This is based on my experience shooting my daughter's competitive dance performances that involved fast motion on what seemed like a well lit stage, but wasn't all that well lit from the camera's perspective.  I've got an older 7D and don't usually take the ISO above 1600.  That has changed a lot for newer bodies.

I've seen my ISO at 2000

 

I think I can change things, but its the shutter speed that changes with the thumb wheel in Manual. It may be different in shutter priority.

 

My challenge is the 80 dials are so much more complicated than my Rebel. It often takes two steps to make switch between settings. Tough in the dark when trying to be unobtrusive 

 

And I'm not sure I'll bring the big rig to the matinee.  Like I said earlier, Laura doesn't like it.

I find shooting in manual can be very challenging, especially in low light situations. Sometimes it takes time to get the right combination of ISO, shutter speed and even what lens you are using. I have no doubt once you play around more with it you will find the "sweet spot."

The hard part with CATS is Victoria's all white costume, and the white makeup on seversl of the cast. They overexpose all the time

I understand.  The #1 consideration is the WAF (wife acceptance factor).

 

I need to set the record straight though since I misspoke/mistyped in my previous message.  I like to shoot in aperture priority (not shutter priority) in low light situations.  Google "aperture priority in low light" when the time is right.  Lots of info about how this can simplify things.  Sorry for extending Camera Chat.

Very true. We tell our anchors and reporters at the television station to never wear all white it makes the camera bloom to much. The extreme contrasts make it very difficult. Now back to our regular scheduled cruise.😁

Had lunch in CK, very nice as usual. Ran into Mac and Nancy. Plus we sat next to the folks I sat with at the comedy club, Barb and Tim, they offered us their wine haul for the week. They live in Ohio and have to fly home. I think we did well. 😁🍷🍾

 

Even got them safely back to the cabin😉

Don't sit to close, or you can't see all the action.

On the 80D, aperture is AV, and shutter is TV.
