mozfoz Posted February 19, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2020 We are due to dock at 8:00am in Rome ( Civitavecchia), Italy. Our flight is not until 2:50pm. We will schedule a private transfer to take us to the airport. We don't need to leave at 8:00, but just how late are we able to remain on the ship. We would rather kill time on the ship than at the airport. Any advice will be appreciated.

Rare pinotlover Posted February 19, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 19, 2020 +1, Must be off by 9:00. Additionally, out of your cabin by 8:00!

drkitkat123 Posted February 19, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 19, 2020 tongue in cheek, I have always wondered how they could ever find you to chuck you off by a specific time? That's usually when we are having such a good time, we don't want to leave!

Security had been given everyone’s name of those that had failed to depart the ship and they were scouring the ship. Watched them escort people to the gangplank! The ship needs to "zero out" all passengers for customs and immigration. The crew and security will sweep the ship to make sure everyone is off. Untill that happens no new passengers can come on board....Even back to back passengers must get off for an hour or so.........

Just speculating how they would actually find you... Once we were sitting in the spa pool on the last morning until the very last minute and wondered how they would get us out the spa.... Do back to back passengers really have to get off? I am almost sure I have been on cruises were they have stayed on board...

When they sweep the ship they know who you are and have your picture from your card. I would suspect that trying to elude or hide out that you might be in for trouble with immigration and the law. I would not play games,

There are a couple of agents who look at your passport and then you can get back on board. But on our Med B2B this past May, we didn’t have to do anything other than pick up our key card at Guest Services.

kitty9 Posted February 20, 2020 #13 Share Posted February 20, 2020 No, we did not have to leave the ship in the Med. Our first cruise was Rome to Rome, the second cruise was Rome to Barcelona.

Since we booked the itinerary as a Grand Voyage, we didn't have to pick up new key cards either. Rare LHT28 Posted February 20, 2020 #16 Share Posted February 20, 2020 It depends on the Country that turnaround day is & there rules USA you NEED to get off UK we had to get off Others were no problem we could stay onboard Eg: Copenhagen

Mura Posted February 20, 2020 #20 Share Posted February 20, 2020 The same for us. I just checked my diary to make sure. The ending point of the first itinerary in May 2018 was Civitavecchia. We did not have to leave the ship (and I didn't note needing to get new cards but I also do not remembering having to do so). We had intended to walk out to the Fortress to finally see it but my notes say that when I saw the length of the walk I changed my mind. So we did stay on the ship. I had thought that I remembered walking to the ship on one of our visits there but I must have been wrong! Mura

Not entirely true...as we have had the customs fold come onboard and do their thing with their portable machines on a couple of our latest B2B's.....It depends as we have also had to disembark for a quick walk through the disembarkation area and walk straight back onto the shio. Rare pinotlover Posted February 22, 2020 #22 Share Posted February 22, 2020 How about this: 1. If you are disembarking the ship, you must be out of your cabin by 8:00 and off the ship by 9:00. 2. If you are not disembarking the procedures varies as to ports and/ or countries. There is no one size fits all answer to procedures on b2bers. Is that simple enough?
Rob the Cruiser Posted February 22, 2020 #23 Share Posted February 22, 2020 @pinotlover- That's way too simple. Now what will people argue about? Pros/cons of Olife options and "free" flight versus no flight?
