We have a cruise out of NY next month and have no plans on cancelling. wrt getting quarantined, it can happen anywhere. US Senators are quarantined because they went to a conference last week. DC had a pastor who knew he was sick, but still went to church and gave communion so now all 500 members of their congregation are quarantined. There are people off of a couple of different Nile River cruises who are sick... which means it is probably someplace they visited vs the cruise itself.

We booked the Bliss March 22nd cruise I want to go and he wants to cancel. I am wondering if they would let my husband cancel and let me take my solo dream cruise that I have always wanted to do! He could not show up and you could still go. He'd get some money back, like port fees, etc, but the not his cruise fare.

Rare jxtgreek Posted March 10, 2020 #29 Share Posted March 10, 2020 Sadly we canceled our week on Dawn out of Tampa on 3/22. Wife has RA and we can't take the chance. Still have one in November and one next January. Hopefully this will all be in the rear view mirror by then. Now I have to hide my casino stash
arlielam Posted March 10, 2020 #30 Share Posted March 10, 2020 Not necessarily paranoia just awareness! Sometimes the things you see at the buffet at the best of times can be hair-raising. Excellent point about direct transmission, good callback to that classic by the Police: Don't stand so close to me. 🙂
forgotmyCCname Posted March 10, 2020 #31 Share Posted March 10, 2020 Whilst I understand the comments about the buffet - I don’t see that as the biggest risk of exposure - if (god forbid) someone onboard has the virus. My understanding is that the vast majority of cases come from direct transmission - being close to someone contagious - so the higher risk places would be in one of the entertainment venues, or queuing in a corridor for a tender - or queuing for one of the restaurants, or sitting or queuing at a bar. I still see plenty people coughing and sneezing without covering their mouth - hopefully our fellow cruisers will have better etiquette. As I said earlier - I am not over concerned about catching the virus - but let’s be straight - paranoia about the buffet is missing the point. The buffet rational is not paranoia . The reasoning is that some idiot coughs into their hand and then touches the serving spoon. Transmission of virus to spoon. As the virus survives a minimum of several hours on solid surface, it is there when you come along, use the spoon, touch your nose/eyes/mouth and that is your transmission vector.Just wash your hands after serving yourself ( if self serve is even allowed) and you have rid yourself of the goobies)This is also why wearing gloves is a waste of time- you still have the virus on the gloves and then- pull your hair back, touch your lips, wipe your eyes. This doesn’t just apply to Covid-19. Watch people out in public and you will be amazed at how often the face is touched by it’s owner. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
CruisinNewbie11 Posted March 10, 2020 #32 Share Posted March 10, 2020 I am 71, no health issues, flying to Puerto Rico, boarding the Epic on 3/22/20. Was planning to travel with just a carryon, but am adding some extra cleaning supplies, snacks for just in case, so will be checking in a bag. That's my only gripe, but can live with it, lol!!

GlamorousGirl Posted March 10, 2020 #35 Share Posted March 10, 2020 We’re sailing on the Bliss out of NYC on March 15. I’m more worried about the 3 days in NY before the cruise than the cruise, with the new State of Emergency for NY. We are keeping this cruise, which we were able to drive to, and cancelling the one in Europe in May since we would need to fly. There is no way I’m flying right now since social distancing is impossible on a plane.
Rare JamieLogical Posted March 10, 2020 #36 Share Posted March 10, 2020 I sail solo on the Bliss on the 15th and my SO, parents, brother, and his SO are scheduled to join me on the 22nd for the second leg of my B2B. Unfortunately, my parents have decided to cancel. Well, specifically, my mom has decided to cancel, which means my dad will be too. The rest of us are all determined to sail unless the cruise line or government try to stop us!

Zolly7997 Posted March 10, 2020 #38 Share Posted March 10, 2020 I am leaving this Sunday on the Dawn out of Tampa. All in my party are of good health and are not worried about the virus itself. The potential for quarantine is a risk that I am fully aware of and have not taken likely.
lindseylu8 Posted March 10, 2020 #39 Share Posted March 10, 2020 Unless something crazy happens from now until 48 hours prior to our 3/15 Epic out of San Juan, we are still going. Hoping for a pretty empty ship, no missed ports, and no issues getting back into San Juan at the end of our trip. Both of us are bringing our laptops just in case.... Epic is in Barbados now - so far so good. I saw yesterday that Puerto Rico wont let any ship dock w/ any signs of corona, but I have to imagine that that is the case with most all ports? Bruiser85 Posted March 10, 2020 #40 Share Posted March 10, 2020 We canceled our 3/15 cruise out of New Orleans on the Getaway. It broke my heart to do this, but we are traveling with friends in their 70's and didn't want them to be at risk.

marktwothousand Posted March 10, 2020 #43 Share Posted March 10, 2020 Some people unfortunately just can't, or don't, think of all the minutiae of the possible routes of transmission. I saw someone at the buffet serve himself a hot dog with the tongs and apply some veggie dressings and then started to arrange the dressings on the dog while still standing at the buffet. The proper thing to do would be to place the plate down on your table, go back to the wash station and wash, then dress the hot dog. Better yet, use a fork to dress the dog at your table. Also, after you squeeze ketchup on anything, use the wash station again before you handle the hot dog or burger. If you're using the soft-serve ice cream dispenser, hold the cone with a napkin and if possible, place the cone down on a clean plate while you wash your hands after touching the ice cream machine handle. Unfortunately there are so many minute details you could think to do to keep yourself clean, its sometimes just too impossible to think of or remember them all.

mjcatlvr Posted March 10, 2020 #45 Share Posted March 10, 2020 Sailing this Saturday 03/14 out of Miami on the Escape unless something CRAZY happens between now and then. Extra cleaning supplies packed and I think were all set. Both of us also will pack a few extra things in case of a quarantine and our laptops for entertainment. I've heard that the crew is serving but then I also read a post from someone that just got off the Escape that they served themselves. So, I'm not sure which one is actually true. On the Getaway right now and the enhanced sanitary procedures started today. You have to get your dish and silverware from someone by the entrance and then crew is serving from behind the buffet. Rare All-ready2cruise Posted March 10, 2020 #48 Share Posted March 10, 2020 Still planning on boarding Dawn Mar. 29th. Lots of time to make a change if I decide not to go...
