Current sailings closing sports courts, mini golf, cancelling parties, and more (leaving pay activities open)

According to @zippydo1 over on the thread For Those of Us NOT Cancelling and Sailing Soon ships at sea, at least the Breakaway, are closing up free items in the name of safety while leaving items like the casino open to make money with.  If we get more reports in this thread can be updated but here is what we know so far:

 

Breakaway

Closed

• Sports Court
• Mini-Golf
• Ping Pong

Cancelled

• Awesome 80’s deck party

 

If anyone is on other sailings or hears of similar stories please keep us updated.

LoL is there anything left to do? Are there any other options to be offered?
I remeber were on a carrebean cruise  (it was called Barracuda or smth) and at that time they got like revolutioners or smth on the islands that we had to visit. So all the attractions planned for us there were canceled. We had to stay on board and just drink at the bar. I wouldnt stay they we were bored but we were not much entertained either. In any case, I am sure they will give some other options.

Will be on the Breakaway 3/21, those particular closures wont effect me but there are other closures that would. Guess it will be a wait and see daily evaluation to help me decide. When it gets to the point of being a bare bones cruise I will throw in the towel. And I dont drink lol

If that's the case it will be the final straw in cancelling our cruise.  If we end up skipping ports due to closures and my kids can't even use the sports facilities, they will go crazy.  They might as well start cancelling cruises if they can't keep the ships running as usual.

Water slides were open yesterday. We made our port stops at Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman and are headed to Cozumel this morning.  We missed GSC due to weather.

On March 20 roll call of the Jewel the meet and greet was cancelled.  So, probably not weather. 

The organizer got an email from NCL cancelling any gathering.

Is there any way to verify if they are really closing this stuff due to COVID-19? We are on the Joy 3/29, and if they start doing this kind of stuff, we will definitely bump our cruise.

Our sea day this week on the Getaway was high winds and they completely shut down the sports deck which includes the Ropes Course, Mini Golf, Rock Climbing wall and basketball court.  The waterslides and pool deck were still open.

I would imagine this is writing on the wall that Norwegian will be canceling cruises.

I've seen it before, more than once, with high winds and/or rough seas that sports complex, mini-golf, etc were closed down.  All the parties are usually on the upper decks, where wind is a big factor, so no surprise about those being cancelled for weather, either.

It’s not weather responsible for cancelling activities here on Breakaway.  Weather is beautiful.   We were told that the glow party is cancelled.  They are in the midst of making changes due to the corona virus threat/fear.

there is like 1,000+ things to do on the ship imho. I never use the sports court, ping pong, or putt putt...even if you did use these things, there are always multiple activities happening on each time slot 🙂

We may not use that stuff, but there are going to be bored kids running all over the ship and causing chaos or making their parents miserable.

How much longer out there do you have?  Is the kids club still open?

We get off on Saturday. 🤞  The kids clubs were open as of last night. Meet and mingle was cancelled.  The cruise started Saturday business as usual but as the week went on more precautions were out in place.

Just because you don't use them doesn't mean they aren't important to other people 🤷‍♂️

My kids are most looking forward to those things, so for us, yes, it's a deal breaker if those things are closed.

I didn't say they weren't important to some people, but I guess to me, a vacation is a vacation and I am going to make the most of the situation.  And I always find SO many things to do on a cruise, the cruise staff is great at improvising and creating new activities when they have to close one thing down.  And putt putt, the slides, etc can also be closed due to weather, so you can't COUNT on those activities even outside of the virus. I don't feel like a cruise could be be boring unless you are quarantined.

wouldnt slides be the safest thing on the ship as they literally force everyone to wash their hands
