Golden Princess, 3 suspected cases of Coronavirus

The Golden Princess is currently in Akaroa harbour in New Zealand. Passengers are not permitted to go ashore because there are three suspected coronavirus cases on board who have been isolated to their cabins. The ship left Melbourne on March 10th and so far has visited the fiords and Port Chalmers (for Dunedin). The three passengers flew into Melbourne from Los Angeles to board the ship and were in close proximity to someone who tested positive. One of the three has symptoms of respiratory illness, but the other two do not.

 

I hope all three people test negative and there isn't another quarantine/isolation event.

Look at T. Hanks and Wife. Being a Millionaire or Billionaire is no guarantee.... This virus does not discriminate.  Fingers crossed the tests on the Golden are negative.

The private jets have been flying into the smaller airports such as Queenstown and KeriKeri for the Bay of Islands ,I also believe Waiheke Island houses have been snapped up for rent at huge rentals , and entire families are moving in .

Ruby was allow to call on Napier today, as it was arriving from another port in New Zealand.

The ships already in NZ waters were allowed to continue with their cruises, except for the Golden with its three suspected cases on board.

 

It will be interesting to see what happens when the Ruby and the Golden are due to return to Australia in several days' time. It has just been announced that no cruise ships from other countries will be allowed to dock. Will they have to stay in NZ and the passengers fly back to Australia to then undertake 14 days self-quarantine?

Golden has departed Akaroa and is heading directly to Melbourne.  If test is positive will be interesting to see how all pax and crew are quarantined.

Thanks for the information it will be interesting as Australia has banned all cruise ships as well as NZ. I did see the Ruby leave and also heading back over the ditch.

 

Information to hand is the test was negative.

There is NO coronavirus on Golden Princess. One passenger was tested by NZ health authorities and the result was negative, Princess has confirmed. The person was on the same flight as someone who tested positive. The positive airline passenger was not on Golden Princess. Unrelated to that, the ship is returning to Australia in line with the NZ and Australian governments' decisions. International cruise ships are banned from docking at any Australian port for 30 days, NZ has banned cruise ships for 3 months. All Australia-based ships currently sailing are heading back to Australia to disembark passengers.
