But you can console yourself as you live near the ocean.  Like walking distance or short drive. I need to drive an 1 1/2 hours to get to the ocean. A real ocean. And that's with no traffic and there is always traffic.

I can make it to the Long Island Sound in 45-50 minutes but not really the same.   Not even close, at least in my neck of the woods (water?)

Besides, now you have a reason to go back! 👍

In my late teen years my friends and I would take the NYC subway every summer to Brighton Beach Bay 3 every Sat. and Sun. weather permitting.  Manhattan Beach was an extra subway ride.  Going home we would stop by and get chocolate ices in a cup and then get on the EL for the long ride home.  It took at least an hour. Even though I knew I would be back, I hated going home.

I miss the beach so much.

@A&L_Ont Looks like you had a wonderful, yummy Thanksgiving and nephew's birthday.  I would have eaten that chocolate turkey right away!  Cow picture so whimsical.

That's where good customer service training comes in to prepare for all issues.

As I am, Marietta.  Hoping for the best news on Wednesday.

Maryann, how is Jim doing with his PT?  Grueling I bet!

Thank you, Bonnie.  Jim's not a complainer, but he will admit that this whole thing is tough.  He said his PT really beat him up today, and put him through the ringer.  He just thought he'd be up and about much quicker.  When he had his open-heart surgery, he thought the same thing.  It's certainly not fun.  With that said, he has gotten up and down the 14 steps to get to the second floor, and he's walked around the house quite a bit without the walker, but that really exhausts him.  He sees the surgeon this Friday.

I remember taking subway to Brighton beach , we also did Rockaway occasionally( by car)  Strange being so far from the ocean now.

A lot depends on how much damage there was, but if he hangs in there and conscientiously does his exercises, by this time next year he won’t even think about his knee.

The last time I was in Aruba the lighthouse was still closed up. As I understand it they have reopened it and let people climb up. That is one of my biggest reasons for wanting to get back to the island besides that I just like it there.

Great pictures... thanks.

Gorgeous photos.

The last time we were there was Jan 2020 and had reservations for sunset dinner at the italian restaurant next to lighthouse park but they emailed us prior to cruise they would be closed I forget why.

We had a fun meal at the west deck restaurant on the beach and saw a gorgeous sunset.

Hope to get back to aruba early 2022.

Since you asked.  LOL.  Samantha has decided that the bed is a good place to hang out.  I had to take the puffy soft pad out.  I put it in her playpen and she beats it up.

She is a beauty.  Look at her sitting proper with paws together...very attentive too😺

Last year, about this time, we were in Aruba. Got to have a Mimosa toast watching the sunrise (yes. Sunrise) behind the California Light house.

How cool is that. What a great memory of a lifetime.

Tell him to hang in there. Sounds like he is doing fine. The rehab is tough but it will get better. I'm not looking forward to having mine done but I need to do it.

Maybe because he had so much damage for so long it is going to take a little longer.   Sorry to hear he is not recovering as quick as he would like.  Hope he's not in too much pain.

Thank you, Mimi.  The Surgeon asked Jim how long he had been living with his knee like that.  It was bone on bone. Surgeon told me there were bits of bone and cartilage when he opened the knee up.  Jim will do the right thing...a friend of ours didn't, and became a cranky old fellow.  Another friend regretted that she didn't exercise more when she should've.

Thank you, Greg!  You're absolutely right;  it will be so much better!  He's hurting, but I reminded him that he's not "grimacing" from the same pain with every movement like he had been doing for the past couple of years.

Thanks Debbie, I believe you could be right about that.  A friend of ours who's had both knees done, told Jim his next knee shouldn't be as bad, since the worst knee has been done first.

I was told years ago that both knees were bone on bone, have normal pain in either , one just bothers me sometimes when sleeping other one is fine. But glad we moved to a one story house ten years ago.

I have never heard of that Greg. :classic_biggrin: It is that a family or regional thing? I don't imagine that it would be bad.  We had egg noodles last night with a little milk, butter, Italian herb seasoning, and some other seasonings. But it would never to occur to me to put them on mashed potatoes. They probably would be good with some gravy on them.   But they would have to be in separate piles. I like mashed potatoes smooooth... :classic_biggrin:

I learned it from my aunt who said it's a northern thing but where exactly I don't know. She made homemade egg noodles but I have heard that if you get "Reames" egg noodles they work just as good. That's what I use.  So at Thanksgiving we make that that dent in the potatoes that holds the gravy but before pouring the gravy put a big helping of egg noodles in there and on top of the potatoes than add the gravy. It's a carb overload but so good. The key is to mix them all together so if you like separate piles you may not like it but trust me it's really good.

Lenny,

Did he go to the University  of Kansas?

That university seems to have a large, loyal alumni association. We know of a couple, now in their seventies, who avidly cheer for KU basketball .They graduated from KU over 50 years ago, but they remain fans of the school.

Yes,he did .Many who lived in NY went to KU.

OUCH!  Hope Allstate comes through for him.

When we were in Key West for a few hours on a cruise, we meandered up Duval Street and I entered a shop, I think perfume.  I told the owner he sounds just like my husband, an Israeli, and asked where he was from.  He said Israel asked where my husband was.  I ran outside to drag Jack in and those two found out they grew up in the same neighborhood and were close in age.  They even knew some of the same people.  We were invited back to their house (wife was in the shop as well) when they closed shop but we had to get back to the ship.  I think 2 women would have exchanged info to keep in touch.  The 2 guys didn't...sigh.

Majestic. Reminds me of your neighbor, Ms. Swift's house, but not in yellow.

On my last cruise, again I was wearing my Born In Brooklyn tee shirt.I was in an elevator.A woman entered and asked where in Brooklyn.I replied and she said that she too grew up in that part of Brooklyn. She asked what street and we lived on the same street. She asked what house number and it was very close to hers. However,we never knew each other.

It sounds like Jim is on the right road to recovery.  Hopefully, each day is a bit better than the day before.  I'm sure the surgeon will be pleased with his progress.

I remember having to nap after my femur bone repair PT sessions.  Total exhaustion and I had 2 daily sessions.   Oh those steps were killers. I'm sure Jim's sessions are more intense. Way to go Jim!

George,  how do you guys last so long  walking, etc. with bone on bone knee caps??  Good grief!

I do take a over the counter medication called instaflex it has really helped , I question if it was really bone on bone but that what the knee specialist said, when I asked a Nurse about instaflex she said it contains some of the same medication used for knee injections, I saw a tv commercial for it years ago with Doug Flutie 😁

Great pictures... thanks.

There are more than 25 lighthouses on Long Island. The oldest dates back to 1792.
