Newfun4me Posted April 20, 2020 #27 Share Posted April 20, 2020 So, would it be possible to add him to one of your rooms AND book him an inside cabin? Is that even doable??? I think you mentioned in one of your posts that you had the space to add him as one of the 6 people per cabin, but that the sleeping arrangements wouldn't work. If that's the case (and I'm NOT an NCL expert), I'm wondering if this option would work??? If so, your whole party would legitimately have access to the Haven, but they could just sleep elsewhere. Just a thought. BUT, I'm with you - in my younger days, I would have gone on ANY paid for vacation and happily!!! Have fun and enjoy your family time! Can’t book a passenger in more than one cabin.
xcell Posted April 20, 2020 #29 Share Posted April 20, 2020 I think the OP was going to book the SIL as a single in an interior and then have him "visit" Haven.

Visiting a Haven private cabin is ok. Visiting the Haven lounge/dining room/pool is not. People need to be aware of the difference.
don't-use-real-name Posted April 21, 2020 #31 Share Posted April 21, 2020 Also note in this that the non-Haven guest will require an escort pass the elevator security access or stairway portal. I don't think that this non-Haven guest will have his cabin key card punched to allow the access. The smaller JEWEL class ships not such a big deal as the perks are limited - NO Dining Room/Bar and what is there is minimal. During SEA days the Haven is apt to be used more than the days with port calls. With the larger Havens with DR and BAR (Ship within a Ship) concept a whole different aspect to this and crowd and space utilization will no doubt be at a premium ! NCL could entertain getting a token more in cruise fare with a non-Haven service charge to help keeping friends and family together - something steeper $$$ than the one time dinner charge. Being more pro-active in allowing family and familiar guests to gather together in the Haven should be worthy of consideration ! At least on a trial basis. It could be capacity controlled like the Spa and VIBE enterprises. NCL think revenue and pleasing guests Until cruising comes back in full swing - something to think about in the meantime ! Maybe the best of times to discuss solutions to problems to be guest friendly when cruising starts !
Always Cruising Posted April 21, 2020 #32 Share Posted April 21, 2020 In the "olden days," I was able to book one person in a Haven cabin as a 5th or 6th in a 2 bedroom suite, and then get a single cabin for that same person. It meant paying a second set of taxes, port charges and daily gratuities, but it was worth it. It often caused a bit of confusion the first day or two (with Guest Services and Concierge trying to figure it all out), but I was able to do it 4 times. Jewel class ships 3 times, and Breakaway once. The last time was 2016. I haven't tried again, but it may not be a possibility anymore. My CAS booking agent did it for me (upon my request) and documented the reservations, but still needed to be explained once onboard.

Reports here NCL closed that loophole around 2016/17.

Most of Haven areas when at capacity feel little busy but not overwhelming like rest of the ship. If you added more people and made it impossible to get access to restaurant and bar within 2 minutes, most of Haven guests would lose it. Want Haven access, get Haven cabin.

(Limited to say the first 10 guests *escorted guests) With these limited options maybe just booking a Haven cabin would be better. But then what if the Haven is booked ? - what options then ? For the JEWEL class ships not applicable For the -AWAY + class ships maybe a solution an option to keeping friends family together with approved restrictions

(Limited to say the first 10 guests *escorted guests) I read what you said and I'm aware you are for classes of ship with Dedicated Haven area (which is only class of ship we sail on) My answer as Haven user is still "Hell no", I have zero faith in NCL once such a program is implemented to try to increase revenue by increasing the number of people allowed. I don't care what it costs, it's a line in the sand that must never be crossed. BTW, there was a program years ago to allow limited selection of people access to Haven Restaurant for dinner only. That was quickly scrapped after backlash from Haven guests. Many Haven regulars are pretty protective of the Haven space because frankly, most people reason for booking the Haven isn't the cabins but Haven benefits. EDIT: It would probably lose NCL money since there would be a bunch of people would put single couple in their party in the Haven then attempt to gain everyone else access through such a program even if they could afford to place everyone in the Haven. Basically, you are thinking (and correct me if I am assuming the wrong thing), token price for a non-Haven passenger, to be able to come in daily to the Haven area to eat, drink (if they have a drinking plan), enjoy the pool and sun deck? Everything but sleeping there? If that's it -- then might as well book a Haven room -- what's the difference? The cost difference between a mini-suite to Haven is huge and if it was only a $200 (I know you were just throwing out a number), I'd make buds with a Haven guest and pay the $200 (being sarcastic).
SeaShark Posted April 21, 2020 #39 Share Posted April 21, 2020 I don't know why people think NCL has to "do something to keep families and friends together". There is nothing stopping people from being together. Let's cut through the BS and ask what this whole topic is really about. Is the point of all this getting Haven perks and amenities for someone who hasn't paid for them? OR Is the point of all this allowing Haven and non-Haven guests to spend time together? Seriously...which is it? If you're looking to get perks for those who haven't paid, then the answer should be NO. You aren't entitled to something that you didn't pay for nor are you entitled to it simply because you know someone else who did. Haven perks and amenities are given by the cruise line to the Haven guests...they are not for the Haven guest to give to other people. If the Haven guest and the non-Haven guest truly just want to spend time together, then they should spend that time in an area of the ship where BOTH PARTIES ARE PERMITTED. They can dine in any restaurant on board outside of the Haven. They can drink at any bar onboard outside of the Haven. They can attend any of the shows together. They can spend time together in any public lounge on the ship. There is really no valid reason, but it always seems like the ONLY place these people can be together is IN the Haven! Why?
