Cthy651 Posted April 22, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2020 Was wondering if anyone had any suggestion regarding 3 day pre cruise in New York - we are planning on a cruise on the Oasis in August 2021, and thought it would be a great time to spend a few days in New York to see the sights, especially the 911 memorial. Does anyone have any suggestions or website that I could use for info. Any information would be greatly appreciated, Thank you
Nitemare Posted April 23, 2020 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2020 TripAdvisor has tons of info on touring NYC. It's too early to get hotel rates for next year, but you can find lots of suggested itineraries there and a large group of helpful folks to help you prioritize attractions and group them together for easy access. 138east Posted April 23, 2020 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2020 Identifying what you want to see is just a piece of the NY sightseeing puzzle. Here are some other considerations: 1) hotel costs 2) local transportation costs 3) time costs Are you planning to drive or fly? Cost of parking is a big consideration if you’re driving. Cost of transportation to and from an airport is a big consideration if you’re flying (recommended airport is Newark). NYC hotel costs are expensive. When sailing from Bayonne we often recommend looking at hotels in Jersey City or even Newark for time and cost effective access to both Manhattan and Cape Liberty. Hotels in the Newport or Grove St area of Jersey City have quick direct access to both midtown and downtown NYC via PATH. No matter where you stay, you’re going to spend time taking public transit and walking to get to the places you want to see. If you want to see the 911 museum, you will have to book a time slot. (https://www.911memorial.org/visit/museum). If you want to go to the Statue of Liberty and also climb to the crown, you will have to book a time slot (https://www.statuecruises.com) This is best done directly on the web site for each attraction. Lots of folks use the Hoho buses. Organized bus tours of Manhattan are difficult because there are no places for the bus to wait while you visit a site. If you can identify what you’re interested in, folks can give you lots of advice. If you can give specific dates and a hotel budget range, folks can make suggestions. Roger88 Posted April 23, 2020 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2020 If you visit tripadvisor you will have hard times choosing where to go and what to se. My best piece of advice would be starting from one corner of a Central park and finish in the other. On your way from one point to another you will see signs, people attracting attention to various sightseeings and etc. By the time you reach the end of the park you will know exactly which way to go next. New York can be tricky at times. Poor city, hope it will be doing alright in 2021

Rare Noxequifans Posted April 23, 2020 #6 Share Posted April 23, 2020 If you decide to stay in Manhattan pre-cruise, you have many options. But best if you don't bring the car when staying right in NYC.
George C Posted April 24, 2020 #7 Share Posted April 24, 2020 You will love 3 days in the city , first thing as already said is picking a hotel that is somewhat in your budget and a location depending on what you want to do , we always stay in midtown close to broadway, loads of museums, Central Park, Rockefeller center and some great restaurants. navybankerteacher Posted April 26, 2020 #8 Share Posted April 26, 2020 I’m not sure about airfares from Toronto to NY, but you should compare prices with parking costs for length of cruise and NY visit. While NY hotels are expensive , it is worth the convenience of a central location. A lot of what makes the city great to see is centrally located, and walkable. seaman11 Posted July 23, 2020 #11 Share Posted July 23, 2020 if you take the train into bayonne from nyc , you need an uber from the light rail to the port. Not many cabs around there.
PelicanBill Posted July 23, 2020 #12 Share Posted July 23, 2020 I would stay in Jersey City - a fair amount of hotels and Homeaway and Airbnb choices close to the PATH stations. Use PATH to go in and out of NYC - to 33rd St Midtown, or WTC for downtown. Park your car in one of the garages there for the 3 days. Then drive to the port for the cruise.
