Lorabelle Posted August 15, 2020 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2020 We have an opportunity to get a pretty good deal on an obstructed verandah on the Koningsdam. Wondering if anyone has sailed in 4145? It looks like the cabin is situated in between two tenders, so we are hoping for at least some ocean view, unlike some of the other cabins that are squarely in the middle of a tender. I have done Google searches and have only found one photo and it's a very poor picture taken from inside the cabin. Hard to tell what the view is really like. Unfortunately the photo of the view from the balcony is a pretty poor representation, and I still can't really tell what to expect as far as obstruction. Was just hoping someone might have some more info. Thanks for your response, though!

You can definitely see one tender on the side and it sure looks like there is a clear view straight out Here

My most recent was on the Westerdam in July, 2019. I have been pleased with both and I agree with kazu, looking at the photo posted on halfacts, you will have a good view straight out as well as downwards. I think the staterooms "feel" larger than the veranda staterooms and the floor to ceiling windows provide lots of light and an airy feeling. If I booked a cruise and did not want a veranda, I would not hesitate in booking one of these staterooms again.
Rare Vict0riann Posted August 15, 2020 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2020 (edited) We were in 4045 on Koningsdam, similar views probably. If you are standing, you can see into the distance, sitting down not so good. If you lean over the rail you can watch the people on the promenade deck below walking their laps. Rare Vict0riann Posted August 15, 2020 #7 Share Posted August 15, 2020 Here's another picture between the lifeboats - unfortunately a tent, not the sea, but you get the idea.

I repeat what I said earlier, if one does not require a veranda, this class of staterooms are quite acceptable. I'd call them a "good value" for an outside type stateroom. Rare Vict0riann Posted August 16, 2020 #9 Share Posted August 16, 2020 Both these staterooms are verandah staterooms.

I've seen pics of a few of the other cabins available for my offer, and they are squarely in the center of a tender, so there is basically no view at all. This cabin appears to have a break in between the tenders, so I'm hoping there will be some opportunity to see out. Thank you, VictOriann, the pictures helped. I do think your pics are a decent representation of what this cabin will be like as well, and it looks as if there is enough of a gap between the two boats to be able to see some ocean.
catl331 Posted August 16, 2020 #11 Share Posted August 16, 2020 (edited) 4130 on the port side seems similarly positioned with respect to the tenders. See these pics: https://halfacts.com/pinnacle-class/4130-nieuw-statendam/ Edited August 16, 2020 by catl331

When I first looked at the photos, I did not see that there was a veranda present. I have had such an obstructed veranda stateroom on a different cruise line's ship and I did not find the "hardware" visible to be an issue for my enjoyment of my veranda. Djptcp Posted August 17, 2020 #14 Share Posted August 17, 2020 We were just a few doors down fro 4145 on the Koningsdam in January and were very pleased with the cabin. Ours wasn't in between two tenders but could easily view out but not down. I wouldn't hesitate to book it again.

mexico8 Posted August 17, 2020 #16 Share Posted August 17, 2020 We had an obstructed "accessible" cabin on the Koningsdam last October and loved it. We could see out to the ocean and down on the promenade deck. Our cabin # was 4167. A great cabin and we had booked it again for this year but just cancelled because of Covid etc.

Lorabelle Posted August 17, 2020 Author #18 Share Posted August 17, 2020 I went ahead and booked it. Based on the one photo, it looks like there will be SOME view, even if it is fairly limited. It is a casino offer that is too good to pass up, so we'll just roll with it. Not even sure the cruise will happen, it's for next April. Not counting my chickens just yet. We were in cabin 4033 VB - the difference was of course no obstruction and the balcony was much larger, almost double the size. We really enjoyed it. Really It didn't make me sign up or anything. All I do is move my mouse over a room that shows it has photos and I can view them. It also took me to some YouTube videos if it had it for that room. Again No charge.

travelinjones Posted August 20, 2020 #22 Share Posted August 20, 2020 Here is a photo cabin tour of Obstructed Verandah stateroom #4079 on the Nieuw Statendam (very similar to Koningsdam) https://travelingwiththejones.com/2019/04/20/a-look-inside-obstructed-verandah-stateroom-4079-on-holland-americas-nieuw-statendam/ For comparison this is a photo tour of Category “V” — Verandah Stateroom #5072 — Nieuw Statendam with no obstruction for the verandah. If the price is close to an oceanview, we like these Obstructed Verandahs. The only thing we missed compared to a regular verandah is the views while sitting down. If you decide to get an oceanview on the Koningsdam or Nieuw Statendam, we really liked the extra space in stateroom 11001 on deck 11 above the bridge http://travelingwiththejones.com/2016/07/25/a-look-inside-stateroom-11001-on-holland-americas-koningsdam-cruise-ship/ We appreciate checking out other people photos of their cruise cabins, so we started these cabin photo tours -- http://travelingwiththejones.com/2020/08/06/18-cruise-ship-cabin-tours/
