Carnival may resume US cruises in 2020

So what happens if you don't own a smart phone.  There are a few of us that don't.  It would be nice if they would have the menus that you could get with the daily events schedule.  Or put the menus up in more places for people to look at for those without smart phones.

Also, John Heald mentions that cruising has restarted in Europe, but doesn’t mention with what stipulations:

* No buffets

* reduced passenger capacity

* 10% of cabins reserved for potential covid cases

* no independent port tours - passengers allowed to disembark at ports only if they PURCHASE a ship sponsored tour.

* no menus - everything done by scanning bar codes

* reduced number of people in pools and on decks

* and several others

Would the average Carnival cruiser be willing to accept these changes?

I really dont have a problem with any of this.  It's only realistic that cruising as we know it is over.

I'm gonna go out on a limb that the same recovery period of cruising from the 60's to the 80's will be in play here.  The USS United States is still waiting in Philly.

Yes, but what about the previous "user".

Maybe start a thread on CC "Please dispose of your menu". 😂😂😂😂

Take the place of chair hog threads, when will we sail again, still waiting on my refund/credit, is drink package worth it!

I'm new here, what caused the cruises to stop between the 60's and 80's?

Oh Butterbean, you were so optimistic when I was told that I was a pessimist a couple of months ago.

Cruising "as we know it" is not over, it's on hold.

In a year or so you'll look back and think this was just a bad dream.  There may be permanent changes, but buffets are not gone forever.

I’m just responding to the QR menu items part. Here where I live, most restaurants project the menu on tvs at the bar or the server will bring by a laminated menu. I sat close to the bar at my fave Mexican restaurant and after the menu was taken away the server doused it in what smelled like straight bleach. I actually really like the QR menus and just taught my grandma and grandpa how to use their iPhones! They love the QR now! I understand not wanting to bring your phone with you, I usually leave mine in the safe but it’s something I could easily change.

I don't think buffets are gone , it will just change to being served. May have scaled down items/ sections however it will be there in some form.

Wait, how would we cruise "before November" if Carnival has already cancelled cruises through October?  Rhetorical question, just sayin'!

He seems to think Carnival will have short cruises being offered again in October and will begin accepting reservations closer to that time.

Don't shoot the messenger. He's the brand ambassador.

In my area, it's 100% QR codes.

Actually the Big U as she was known is the SS United States and not USS as you have it 😉

Single use paper place mats with the menu printed on them could be one option until there is a proven vaccine. Many of us remember those place mats from our childhood.

Apart from the obvious stain, how would he know that he would be the first to receive the menu?

"Trust" a cruise line that they would. Yeah I know that's an oxymoron.

Maybe make it Mandatory that all pax pack those disposable gloves deli people wear.

Wouldn't that be a sight to see at dinner, but at least one would know they aren't touching a used menu.

I wouldn't trust a cruise line. Ever.

I've never seen one but havent eaten in a restaurant since dallas shut down from covid.

I did go to a taco bell when I had car trouble thinking I could sit and eat in the a/c while my car was in trouble. Nope. Dining room closed, no way but to order at a counter. To get a glass of ice I was offered a tray and told only touch the top cup in the stack. Take it back to hot car mechanic to eat. Well I tried to eat in lol. Pretty closed up here still.

Went to a dickies bbq, dining also closed. They had a row of chairs a few feet lined up along the counter so you had to stand back and order from a ways away. All sides in plastic containers so couldn't see any of the food. I havent seen a place open or with those bar codes.

Oh wow, that’s crazy. We’re still in Phase 1 here (South FL) but most things are pretty open. My county is finally getting residents onboard with masks and even mailed a complimentary one to everyone but being Florida, we’re still trying to ignore and carry on. Restaurants close early but everyone just goes to the casinos at that point. I still have been dining out pretty regularly at the same frequency as pre-pandemic.

The QR codes are usually on the table or on drink coasters.

Saw somewhere where an MSC cruise departed this week. This cruise ending results should accurately gauge the probability of a comeback? Starting Colleges and any type of school is a bad idea right now. Not so much the disregard for the outbreak as much as keeping kids "focused on protocol" is a difficult task.

I think life in general as we know it over.  I gave too much credit to people to be thinking creatures.  A lot of things has happened over the past several weeks that I never thought I would see come to pass. But you, oh great sage, saw it all as you kept reminding us. 😋
