Hi, can I use on board credit to buy for eg costa coffee/cocktails/mocktails/soft drinks and water or do I have to pay for these separately

Your OBC goes on to your seapass card  cabin account.

You will use your seapass card to pay for everything on board so yes your OBC will pay for what you are asking.

Graham.

It is a cashless society on board and all your purchases are done with your seapass card.

You have to register your credit/debit card pre departure and your card is checked at check In.

Some people leave cash deposits at ships reception to pay their bills and settle their bill on the last night but the card is the best option and what we have always done.

If you purchase drinks packages or book restaurants on line before boarding you will have to pay by credit card and OBC does Not apply to these as On Board Credit is only for when you are actually on the ship

Does that mean that you may use your OBC to pay for part of a drinks package if you buy the package while onboard? Just checking there is no catch. It's a bit bewildering for a P&O newbie. Just now going through a webpage  booking form for a cruise I am likely to book, one page states  £50 OBC and another £130 ???

This is from the P&O FAQ:-

On-board spending money may be used against:

  • Items purchased from any of the shops
  • Spa, & salon treatments and services (when booked on-board and not prior to embarkation via My P&O Cruises)
  • Photography prints, products, workshops and services
  • Laundry & dry cleaning
  • Internet and telephone charges
  • Shore Experiences (when booked on-board and not prior to embarkation via My P&O Cruises)
  • Beverages from the bar and restaurants (where applicable)
  • Drinks packages (when booked on-board and not prior to embarkation via My P&O Cruises)
  • Restaurant cover charges (when booked on-board and not prior to embarkation via My P&O Cruises)
  • Artwork from the Gallery
  • Gift items such as Celebration Packages, flowers and cakes (when booked on-board and not prior to embarkation)

On-board spending money may not be used against:

  • Purchasing Shore Experiences prior to embarkation via My P&O Cruises
  • Purchasing restaurant cover charges prior to embarkation via My P&O Cruises
  • Purchasing Spa treatments and services prior to embarkation via My P&O Cruises
  • Visas that require payment
  • Medical charges (including services, prescriptions and supplies)
  • Cash back
  • As full or part payment against a future cruise or charter flight seat reservations and upgrades.
  • Ad hoc gratuities
  • Foreign currency
  • on-board gaming (including the casino)*
  • Charitable donations
  • Shore Experience cancellation charges

*With the addition of the Arcade on board Ventura, this falls under the jurisdiction of the casino, therefore the use on on board credit is not permitted.

Yes.

Everything you buy on board goes on to your on board account and your OBC will cover these.

Make sure you use up all of your OBC because if there is any left at the end of the cruise you lose it.

Ask your TA or P&O if booked direct for your latest confirmation invoice and any OBC should be on there,if not ask for clarification so you have proof when you get on the ship.

I used to use our OBC to pay our gratuities before P&O went No Gratuities.

Graham.

Regarding the amounts of on board Credit shown on the web site, the first amount (£50 in your example) is per PERSON and is what you can swap for Coach Travel or Free Parking.

The £130 is per CABIN and is an amount they can vary and includes the £50 - if you select the Coach or Parking option then the amount per cabin will be reduced - in this case to £30 per cabin (£130 minus  two  times £50)

Worth also noting there are multiple ways to get extra OBC which all compound to make a bigger total OBC.   I know of 4 ways to get OBC:

1.  The OBC that comes with the cruise ticket as part of the deal

2.  Extra OBC you can get by booking your next cruise whilst you are still on-board the prev one

3.  Buying/owning at least 100 shares in Carnival (Stock code CCL).  gets you extra OBC on every cruise.

4.  Extra OBC for those who have a military record

If you are lucky and set yourself up you can get all 4 chunks of OBC and that can sometimes lead to a big pot.  With my wife we've had over £1500 OBC on some cruises and find we have to go buying lots of things from the shops for Christmas presents in order to be sure to use it up.

On our first cruise, about 2003, our first purchase was a coffee in Costa. About £4. I went to pay in cash and this very polite waiter kindly explained the procedure to me. I bet he had a little chuckle with his mates🤣.

Your Seapass card which you are given by the cruise line at the start of the cruise charges your on board account and this is backed by the credit card you have registered as your payment method which settles the account on the final day of the cruise.

It also opens your cabin door, and is needed for identity as you leave or board the ship.
