I am not sure why they haven't already announced vaccinated sailings out of Long Beach, NOLA, and Baltimore.  It seems like that's an easy path in those places.

Probably, but the plan all along was Florida and Texas until ship happened. It might take 90 days to restart somewhere else.

So in Florida businesses can't ask for proof of vaccine for Covid but you have to provide proof of vaccines for seven different diseases if you want to enroll your child in public or private school or enroll in daycare.

I suppose DeSantis will be changing the requirement to show proof of vaccines for school/daycare enrollment as well?  After all private schools and daycare centers are businesses.  Oh wait, probably not since the restrictions of proof of Covid vaccine is clearly just political grandstanding and pandering to his base.

Maybe things will change once the vaccine is actually FDA approved and available to preschool children.

Not stood in the way. for one.

I guess these governors were fine with the industry being shut down for a year when everything else opened up.  That's not surprising since they did absolutely nothing to try to get it started again.  And here we are, with nothing being said about cruises from these states.  Maybe if they had done something, things would be happening in those ports.

Is it any wonder that the cruise lines are planning to cruise from the states that filed or joined the lawsuit - Alaska, Texas, and Florida?

They were more concerned with defeating the pandemic, not playing russian roulette, and not playing politics. At the rate Texas and Florida are going, Carnival may well restart elsewhere. Move Galveston cruises to New Orleans and bus people who can't otherwise get there. It's been done before.

I wasn't suggesting children should be vaccinated for Covid to enroll in school, only pointing out that Florida does require proof of vaccine for certain businesses (schools and daycare). It is simply illogical that some Florida businesses (Carnival)  can't require proof of vaccines and some can (schools/daycare). It does not matter what the vaccine is for, requiring proof of vaccine is the issue.

Very well said. These people seem to forget they are supposed to be "all about business." Let's not forget about hotels, restaurants, food suppliers, dock workers, shuttle drivers. Can DeSantis explain to them how he is helping them by delaying the start of cruising?

All of those businesses can require workers to be vaccinated, with few exceptions.

I’m not sure they could have done much to get going before a vaccine was widely available. What are you suggesting?

If Louisiana (or anywhere else) can get LNG refueling in operation (and they will), Carnival may look for a different state to home port the next ship.

California already has a HUGE natural gas infrastructure (the most in fact) that could easily accommodate ships. Our port operations are HUGE. It's already here.

I hope Georgia for the shorter sailing distance to eastern Caribbean compared to Louisiana.  Georgia is also more moderate than Louisiana, so hopefully we wouldn't have to worry about a repeat.  In fact after this stunt I hope they move business out of Florida anyway.

I assume the vaccinations required are FDA approved and not ones approved for emergency use.

Maybe, but who really wants to deal with California?

People that want to make money. Who has a bigger economy/populace? No state comes close.

If only the Governor in Cali would open things up. Watched outdoor sporting events in Cali last week on TV. Stands were nearly empty. What a joke.

Which is probably why the cruise lines aren't talking about firm decisions cruising out of California.  They are starting where they are most likely to actually sail.

The fact you can get to the best cruise destinations easier and cheaper from Florida also helps.

Only issue is There isn't a lot of different ports to go see from the west coast. And Carnival and other cruise lines need Florida more then Florida needs them. Cruise lines have already sunk an incredible amount of money into Florida's cruise infrastructure and it just isn't going to be good business to walk away from that.

Meh, he was rescued by the "big government welfare" that many in his party bemoan. Florida was facing huge deficits and in deep do-do financially. Their economy is no example, it's unbalanced, unsustainable, unproductive and wishful hoping at best. Stay tuned when the federal slush fund money runs out and bankruptcies start spiking.

I doubt they have issues since businesses were allowed to open.  People visited from lockdown states so they could experience freedom.  We met a family who had both of their sons' weddings in Florida because their state was locked up.  It's hard to believe someone could think that an open state is having the same money issues as one that was locked down and drove businesses to the ground, but ok.

True.  But they still fill ships that cruise from Long Beach, Baltimore, and New Orleans.  Even though they should have been able to start with those locations and required vaccinations, none of the cruise lines chose those places. The governors in those locations seemed to be in no hurry to open up those ports.

Just curious do you mean NYC and Bayonne, NJ?  There are no ships that sail from Long Island, unless you're counting Brooklyn, which is part of Long Island geographically but part of NYC.
