I forget, does the Viking Daily also give port agent information?  If so, you can contact the agent if you have an emergency while in that port.  And of course, for those of us traveling on Jupiter, we'll have a different ship number for contacting the ship. And remember, unless this has changed, our key cards give the ship's phone number - assuming it's correct.

Another way to stay up to date is to simply state something on the thread you want to follow. If I have nothing better to say I just type in either “subscribing” or “following”. 
 

Then if you have your “activity” stream set up, when ever you log on you can see where there is new info. Below are screenshots (with what you need to click circled in green) of where you need to click to set that up.

Thanks much - I should have asked for help when I first joined..hopefully by our next cruise (yep, our first VO cruise got us hooked so next one is VO to Australia - woo hoo), I'll be much better at this 😉

As Clay said we were on our way to Vök Baths when the bus was pulled over by the police and we were told to return to the ship due to one case of COVID on board. We were less than 1 km from the baths when this happened. The bus drove us through the parking lot to “see” what Vok Baths looked like and we headed back. The drive was beautiful though - through the mountains and snow, waterfalls, streams, sheep, and, lupins.. when we returned The general manager told us that the Town collectively was very cautious and had to make a collective decision about whether or not we would be allowed to continue the excursions but we would have to wait to find out. Ultimately all excursions were cancelled and we were told that the ship would be leaving soon to our next port.

Interestingly we haven’t departed Seydisfjördur yet (it’s now 3:10pm). Not sure why but wondering if some folks had independent excursions and were already off the ship when the decision was made to keep us all aboard. So Mike is now having trying the warm Pap’s Brandy and I’m having a cappuccino.

My guess at the delay is also whether the next port can accommodate an early arrival.  I don't think these ships can pull into port whenever they want.

Yes but since we weren’t scheduled to leave here until 10:30 pm anyway, I figured we were going to be doing lazy 8s all the way there given it’s only 87 miles away.  Just strange at 12:45 the Captain said we would be departing shortly and as of 3:41 no signs we are going anywhere.

Were people allowed off the ship on the own? Could they still be ashore?

The gangway was open from about 8:15 until 9:15, so folks could certainly have gotten off and could still be ashore.

I believe this is a general statement, but the false positive frequency has an inverse correlation with prevalence.    With Sky's passengers and crew being fully vaccinated, the true prevalence should be low, say <1%. Which would make the false positive rate pretty high. This is from an FDA bulletin 11/2020 which explains the inverse correlation. Reference at bottom.- 

 

Remember that positive predictive value (PPV) varies with disease prevalence when interpreting results from diagnostic tests. PPV is the percent of positive test results that are true positives. As disease prevalence decreases, the percent of test results that are false positives increase.

• For example, a test with 98% specificity would have a PPV of just over 80% in a population with 10% prevalence, meaning 20 out of 100 positive results would be false positives.
• The same test would only have a PPV of approximately 30% in a population with 1% prevalence, meaning 70 out of 100 positive results would be false positives.  This means that, in a population with 1% prevalence, only 30% of individuals with positive test results actually have the disease.
• At 0.1% prevalence, the PPV would only be 4%, meaning that 96 out of 100 positive results would be false positives.
• Health care providers should take the local prevalence into consideration when interpreting diagnostic test results.

Punch line is this may be a false positive. Hope so. They will be rechecking. One of the reasons that Iceland dropped incoming visitor testing earlier this month is there had been only a few positives AMONG FULLY VACCINATED ARRIVALS since Iceland reopened and all of them turned out to be false positives. (n.b.- this does not hold true where prior probability of infection is higher, like in un-vaccinated people.)

PLEASE, could we all please agree to cooperate and move all conversation about the positive test on board the Viking SKY to the dedicated thread that Clay started earlier today.

On board Jupiter now. I’d been very disappointed at being unable to book the Vigur Island tour but inquired as soon as we boarded and had choice of two departure times! There IS hope! Now, if it just doesn’t rain too much!

 

Heart of the Glacier tour today was quite good. Recommend it highly but not for anyone with walking difficulties. Even with crampons for traction on ice footing is a bit tricky.

You're welcome.  And I learned something new today, too.  Assuming the person's correct, there is a planetarium on Viking Jupiter!  I thought it was only on Orion!  This is something new for me to look forward to.

Oh thank you so much.  I needed to hear that about Vigur.  You've made my day here in Silver Spring, MD!  Any feedback from anyone who did the Iceland Through the Lens excursion in Reykjavik?  I'm signed up for it, but that Heart of the Glacier excursion has also been tempting me.  I guess I need to decide before the "shut down" period a week pre-cruise, as I don't know if the vendor will allow Viking to add another person on embarkation day.

Can you describe where you had lunch on the Heart of the Glacier tour (if not the Icelandic name)? We drove up to Husafell at the end of June but did not see “an extensive estate” in the area where the tour description says you would be having lunch. Just curious for future reference! Thanks.

What did you specifically like about Heart of the Glacier?  What was the lunch like?  How about the 2 smaller waterfalls?
