Interesting !

Neither am I. We paid for our entire cruise(except the $250.00 deposit) with discounted Carnival gift cards I bought at a 10% discount(the 12% wasn't available back then). So we basically saved about $180-$200 over the cost of the cruise, port fees, & taxes.

How do I go about cashing in OBC in the casino? How is it done? I know there is a 3% fee in there somewhere but if I save over 10% for purchasing before boarding I would rather do that.

From what I have read, no charge if you download funds to slot machine, 3% fee is if you take a marker at a table game

I'll have to look into that. Where can one pick some up?

SCRATCH THAT... I'm guessing one needs to actually be a Allstate customer for that!  😄

No need to be an Allstate customer.   You can accumulate points and then redeem them towards a discount of 10%, currently 12% on cards that are good for 100% of purchases.  Deposit, final payment, grats, Cheers etc.

Easier to just go to Cherry On Top and buy gift cards to use on your next cruise.   Can be used for deposit, final payment and all purchases.

I signed up for the Allstate thing the other day and when I log in there is nothing on the site about rewards.  I was a member of the old site and used it many times.

I wouldn't. It is about a 12% price increase. 10% for the price and 1.8% increase in gratuities. Of that $400 OBC, half of it is gone for the room service fee on a 1-week cruise: $13.99 x 2 x 7 = $196. Buying the drink package onboard for 2 will be ~$90 more. Not worth it already if you know you are getting it.

I had a really hard time getting to where I needed to log in. Try this link; it's been working for me lately: https://allstaterewards.com/myaccount

We will do specialty dining too

yes I have a few Allstate cards too.

just wish I knew exactly the price on board.

Lots of slightly misguided info in this thread regarding pricing for Cheers.  This is directly from the Carnival website.  As you can see, the "cost" of $51.95 (plus 18% grat) is the pre-cruise discount, for 5-day plus cruises.  And it goes up by $3 a day for shorter cruises:

Before your cruise:  $51.95 USD, per person, per day plus 18% gratuity, for cruises 5 days and longer, including Europe and transatlantic cruises (to/from the US and Europe); $54.95 USD, per person, per day plus 18% gratuity for 3 day and 4 day cruises. CHEERS! can be purchased at www.carnival.com/Funshops or by contacting The Fun Shops department at 800-522-7648, Monday - Sunday, 9:00am - 9:00pm ET. Cut-off for pre-purchase online is 11:59pm ET, the evening prior to the cruise departure. Although we are not able to process the Carnival Gift Card for Fun Shop orders by telephone, you may use a Carnival Gift Card when purchasing CHEERS! online.

On board your cruise:  $56.95 USD, per person, per day plus 18% gratuity, for cruises 5 days and longer, including eastbound transatlantic (the US to Europe); $59.95 USD, per person, per day plus 18% gratuity for 3 day and 4 day cruises. $51.95 USD per person, per day plus 18% gratuity, for Europe and westbound transatlantic cruises (Europe to the US).  CHEERS! can be purchased at a bar on board.

Thanks that helps a lot! So torn as it $8.00 more per day per person! What would you do?

so we have had the Cheers package on Celebrity (got a deal) and now with our upcoming MG in the winter (another deal)- loved it on Celebrity. NOW have sailed more without the package and just was more careful with my drink spending.  With package I did not worry about water , water , water or if I didn't like a drink (try something new). now without the package I filled my water bottle and was careful to only get drinks I knew I'd like.

so if you think you want to have no worries on the ship and the cost is ok for you to buy the package- get the package.  I just knew that if we did not have the deal on MG- I would not do it . I can't justify spending almost 700 for a drink package .

Not $8 more, since you are on a 7 day cruise (I assume, since it is Mardi Gras).

So it would be $5 more (+18%) more per person, per day.

If I had very little other things to use OBC for, I would purchase Cheers on board.  You say you have $400 OBC.  If you haven't paid for Auto-Grats, that should consume about $200.  Do you think you can spend $200 in the gift shops, restaurants, photos, or otherwise?

We have $600 OBC for our Mardi Gras cruise to Western Carib (due to a cancelled cruise), and if we think there are good excursions to purchase, we'll use the OBC for that, plus photos and t-shirts and specialty dining and $200 in auto-grats.  That way we "save" $140 + 18% by purchasing Cheers ahead of time.

Even if we get 5 drinks a day, water, energy drinks it pays for itself as drinks by themselves are a lot more with the tip! We always get the package and haven’t been on a 7 day in years. We would just buy one package as my son years ago we would just put him in a room with my husband that we way had to just buy one. Now he will be 22 so have to buy 2.

I would agree with what @ProgRockCruiser posted. If you can spend the OBC on other things it would make most sense to pay for Cheers in advance and get the discount.

That helps! Thinking that I will prepay the gratuities and buy cheers on board and bring a few gift cards that way my bill won’t be so much. Yes some excursions, specialty dining it will add up!

No charge. We do it every cruise. Play $1 (or how much you want) on a slot and cash out. Plain and simple. We use that money for the next cruise. We've even won money once or twice with the bet.

How many days into the cruise do they offer CHEERS? We'll bring wine onboard, and purchased a bottle of vodka for the cabin - that'll take a couple days at least!

Tom

Cheers is offered on the first (embarkation) and second day of the cruise to purchase.  (TX and NY second day only.)

So if you want it, you gotta go all in, as it were.

and sometimes the port stops don't count.  HMC you can't use the drink package (well in 2018).  so be mindful of how many ports and sea days.

Indeed:

CHEERS! is not offered on 2 day cruises, charter cruises and beverage purchases made at Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays in The Bahamas
