Yes, and again our government bought and distributed Covidshield Version of Astra Zeneca so they need to address this for those people.    I know at first some Broadway shows weren’t allowing AZ but that was later changed.

So decisions were made based on science and also supply,  and the government needs to address These issues. The one thing that doesn’t change we about this situation is that it constantly changes.

Thankfully we are approaching 80% vaccinated.

Guess we will be cancelling our Sept. 24th cruise from Athens to Venice.  We both received the AstraZeneca for our first and the Moderna for our second.  We will be checking with our cruise adviser and see what HAL says.

I know it sounds a bit crazy, but is there any chance you can get a third shot with the Moderna Vaccine?

I highly doubt it since Canada is busy trying to find enough vaccines to vaccinate everyone and our doses are tracked through our provincial health cards.

It isn’t recommended according to the scientific opinions I’ve heard.  It’s too soon to add a 3rd vaccine to the system and could cause problems.

Down, the road as time goes, it is possible but right now it is not recommended.

Maybe in the future. Right now, they’re still limiting 2nd shots to those seven weeks or more past the first shot. (Although this keeps moving downward). Until they’re caught up with that, it’s unlikely we can get a third shot.

That number actually depends on where you are. Here in Ontario, anyone who had a shot 28 days prior can get their second shot. And, we are finally in the walk-in stage in many (most?) places. Even at that, a third shot is definitely not in the cards until everyone is fully vaccinated, and wouldn't be allowed anyway.

We live in Quebec Canada.  DH had 2 Pfizer shots and I had one AZ and one Moderna. I took AZ when they were pleading with people to take whatever vaccine is available first.  Then there were more issues with AZ reported and our government recommended NOT to get AZ for second dose.  So again I did what was recommended.

We are booked on 2 HAL cruises....luckily not until Sep 2022 and Jan 2023 so hopefully this gets sorted out.  It reminds me of the story a month or so ago about the Bruce Springsteen Broadway show in NYC that required proof of vaccination and they weren't accepting AZ as an eligible vaccine.  It did get sorted out fairly quickly.

Hopefully this gets sorted just as quickly....they Canadian government is aware of this and is working on it https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/mixed-vaccine-doses-international-travel-1.6103800.  I sure hope it gets sorted out soon and doesn't end up costing any fellow Canadians a cruise.

I also hope the federal vaccine passport gets rolled out soon.  In Quebec we got both an digital record with a QR code and paper records.  The records show what type of vaccine each dose was.  My concern with the records issued by Quebec is they are in my maiden name (it is mandatory to have your health records and drivers license in your maiden name in Quebec).  All my other ID including my passport are in my married name.  Only thing I can think of is to bring my marriage license to show my name change.   I am guessing there will be a lot of women who live in Quebec with the same problem.

My prediction is like what happened in Barbados - there will be a reversal on not allowing for the mixing of vaccines in the near future.

i like to think by the time we open the Canada opens the border to US in mid-August - many of these differences will be ironed out. Also hoping the need for a Covid test to enter (US or Can) will be waived for fully vaccinated.

Our first cruise is late September, so like to think  there is still a few changes (hopefully for the better) by then.

Wow!  This is the first I've ever heard of "mixed vaccines".  Was that even a practice in the United States?  Weren't they insisting from the get-go, that if you got Moderna, for instance, for your first dose, you had to get Moderna for your second dose?

I'm sure it will get stickier and stickier as things progress.  With all the new variants of the virus, it's really a wonder that they're even still using vaccines that were developed for the original Alpha virus, but who am I to question big pharma?

No, it would have been illegal. The limited trials used for emergency use authorization were only for single vaccine manufacturers. There would have had to have been trials for the mixed vaccines.  You know all those "drug interaction warnings" you see? They would have insisted on those at a minimum.

That’s really good to know. BC’s time restrictions should get shorter then. When I got my second shot in mid June, there was a minimum 8 week wait time. Two weeks ago it was 7 weeks. That may already have dropped.

That’s what I was wondering, there is certainly plenty of supply.

That’s another issue that could come up.  Will those who did get two of the same shot but the interval was greater then the 3-4 weeks as recommended by the manufacturer be considered unvaccinated?

Is this the same group(ie. NACI) that recommended that we mix our doses.  There were a number of people in Ontario who the authorities thought was given a placebo.  That said at the time, it was not a big deal to get a third dose....

I think we need to fight for a third dose for those people that want it.  Or, the federal government needs to live up to their commitment that mixed doses will not be a problem to travel. Trudeau(who I supported in the past), better live up to his commitment.

You might want to check what Greece/Italy  consider to be fully vaccinated, since those cruises are operating under EU rules, not US rules.

Update... Carnival, Princess, HA, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Norwegian all have updates to include the same policy. Celebrity even states that does from different manufacturers would not be ok (so no moderna/pfizer)

I am unable to get another dose at this time, as there are those I Canada (and the world) that still need their first dose. It would be greedy for me to demand a 3rd dose just because I wish to travel. We have to register online, so my file would have me as fully vaccinated... so no 3rd dose.

Hoping for the policy to be changed in time for our cruise... otherwise my son will go in my place as he will have 2x Pfizer.

What a magnanimous attitude you have.  I love it 👍

So nice to hear - and I completely agree with you - we need to take care of so many that need the vaccine ♥️

No, I was listening to scientists/doctor specialists on CBC and CTV who did not recommend taking a third shot so close to the other 2.  They said there were proven repercussions already when it happens.

Exactly. Based on early reports, the adverse reactions to the mRNA boosters are pretty severe.

In both of those cases, action was taken, once it became a news item.   We need to get more attention to this issue or nothing will happen.  The squeaky wheel....

I have sent a note to a media person I know.  If anyone has any contacts, they should let them know of the issue!
