Rare Gail & Marty sailing away Posted August 22, 2021 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2021 Please everyone, follow the rules when on a ship so it does not ruin it for others . If they ask you to wear a mask, WEAR IT. It is not fair for the crew to have to remind you, they work hard enough. Be considerate of others please, the rules are made for a reason. If it's too difficult or uncomfortable for you to wear a mask while on a ship, maybe you shouldn't be cruising at this time. Do we really want any cruise to be aborted? 54

Evilmuffin Posted August 22, 2021 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2021 As an extra precaution, I’ve already told my friends and family that two weeks before my cruise, I won’t be entertaining any visitors. I just dont want to risk testing positive for myself or bringing it onboard. 23

We don't want any surprises when we are embarking. 2

KirkNC Posted August 22, 2021 #12 Share Posted August 22, 2021 Unfortunately I am afraid there will always be some who feel entitled or disagree with a given rule and create a toxic environment. The last two years have lowered my expectations of our fellow man to zero. 21

Riversedge Posted August 22, 2021 #16 Share Posted August 22, 2021 I’m so glad this thread was started. We plan on wearing our masks. Will we like it? Of course not. Who does? The rule wasn’t in effect when we booked two months ago but it is what it is. I wish that people who have no intention of wearing it CORRECTLY would just stay home. And I’m not going to walk around all day with a drink in my hand so I don’t have to put my mask on. I’m willing to do anything to help make it possible to continue our sailing and others to follow. Can you image what the crew thinks when they see an unmasked person? These cruises and the tips they generate are their livelihood. If a cruise gets terminated or cancelled it’s money out of their pocket. We all need to keep each other as safe as possible. 18
Evilmuffin Posted August 22, 2021 #17 Share Posted August 22, 2021 Even if they were to relax the mask rule, I may just continue to wear it anyways. With the amount of $ I spent for my upcoming cruise, I’m not taking a chance on catching anything and having to disembark early. Unfortunately I have never been to Florida and I will be going straight from the airport to hotel and then to the ship. One day perhaps I will get back.
seaoma Posted August 22, 2021 #18 Share Posted August 22, 2021 For months and months I've read posts here where people were so concerned for the crew and their livelihood and now, when they get the first chance to get onboard, they potentially put crew at risk, both for their health and their employment. Does anyone think that the cruise lines may have learned a thing or two about the cruises that have been sailing in the past few weeks? Perhaps there is more active infection on the ship than they want, so they have added a couple of additional layers of protection to try and slow it down, making it safer for all, passengers and crew, to sail. I am all for that and I would have thought more than half of us would have wanted it too.
Rare The-Inside-Cabin Posted August 22, 2021 #19 Share Posted August 22, 2021 Here are the current mask rules that I can find - Guests will be required to wear face masks prior to being seated in all dining areas So once you sit down - masks off for the duration of the meal. OK - pretty straightforward. This won't be a problem Now for the rule that may cause more trouble. All guests will be required to wear face masks in elevators and in designated indoor entertainment areas, all retail shops, and in the casino, except when eating or drinking. When playing slots in the casino with a drink - can you go maskless as long as there is a drink in your hand? Or do you have to mask up between sips? What about when in the theatre? You are nursing a scotch - mask up between sips? When in the crows nest bar during happy hour - with a mixed drink and a bowl of nuts? Mask off the whole time or only between sips and bites. The airlines require you to mask up between sips Everyone will have a different interpretation - I suspect the crew will be very liberal - but some passengers may feel it is their duty to remind people of of their interpretation of the mask rules. So - where do you stand on the Crows Nest scenario? Mask up between sips ? Or as long as you have a bowl of nuts and drink infront of you - go maskless since you are EATING or Drinking? I can’t help you on this one. Here, we do not have to wear our masks when in a restaurant but everyone is still distanced and there is plexiglass inside to help protect tables. All the tables outside are more than 6’ apart. Myself, I would wear my mask if there is no plexiglass and social distancing. I don’t know what the right answer is on this one. I haven’t been on ship yet since covid to see the set up.

I think it would be reasonable to include spacing in those scenarios. Most people don't chug a drink nor pound nuts non-stop. So, if I'm sitting at a table with my husband and we aren't close to anyone else, then I may leave my mask off, especially because the ship has improved their HVAC. If the space between another cruiser is too close, then I'm either going to put my mask back on between stuffing my face or move further apart, if possible. If those aren't acceptable solutions, then I will take my drink and nuts and find a place that I feel I can eat and drink without putting someone in harms way. Just me. I can tell you without a doubt that If I am face to face with a masked crew member, I will be masked also. My mask protects that person and their mask protects me.
Evilmuffin Posted August 22, 2021 #22 Share Posted August 22, 2021 In these uncertain times, the rules can change even daily. Even if they were to say no masks are required, it can change on a dime, even after it sails. So those that are booking for any cruises in the near future should only be doing so with the understanding masks may be required whether they agree or not…. Otherwise, don’t bother booking for quite awhile. It’s gonna be a long time before things go back to normal… if ever. Going on a cruise is not a right. A fact that some people seem to forget. 10

aliaschief Posted August 22, 2021 #24 Share Posted August 22, 2021 On our recent NA cruise. Most folks wore mask while moving within the ship. Once at your table for either cocktails or dining folks would remove their mask until they got up and left the venue. I saw no one donning or undoing mask between sips or eating. 3

From what you posted I am not even sure the rules would require a guest to wear a mask in the crows nest. Masks are not required 100% of the time you are out of your cabin, but some people would like them to be. Other people would like there to be no mask requirements onboard at all. I could definitely see situations where this could cause tension or other issues between cruisers. Which is crazy, but you see it or hear about it almost daily off the ship so I would expect those behaviors to be onboard too.
