NCL Jade 11 infections last week

I have done one LGBTQ+ charter with RSVP on the Caribbean Princess many years ago and will never do another.  I can tell you that crew/officers turn a blind eye to MANY things that go on during these sailings.  They are essentially circuit parties at sea with all the attendant over consumption of alcohol, drugs, partying, etc that go along with it.  I am not surprised there were several breakthrough cases identified amongst the passengers due to the nature of the demographic on this sailing, even with the reduced passenger numbers.

Nobody really expected covid-free cruise ships for the rest of the decade. It was clear that there will be cases on board.

The question is how these cases are handled, how quick one can seperate these cases from the other guest and how ill these covid-infected people really get.

If all are feeling well and could be seperated quickly so that only 11 were infected intotal to me this is an absolute success. Especially as there were quite likely no masks and no social distancing.

If you would try that on land you just have to have a look at some US-staes or the UK.

regarding the state of florida positivity rate vs. this one ship's positivity rate... as others have pointed out, this is not a fair comparison, due to sample size and other factors. the way you fix that, the way you provide a more meaningful comparison, would be to compare the state of florida with the positivity rate of passengers and crew on all fully vaccinated ships that have sailed... and even then, you'd still have a problem with sample size. but at least it would provide a more well-rounded picture.

This cruise only had about 1200 passengers. The passengers have to quarantine for 10 days in a Greek government hotel.

Does anyone know if NCL picked up the tab for quarantine?

Check out the CDC's cruise ship color code - note the NCL Jade is not listed.  The website tracks COVID transmissions on currently sailing ships:  https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/cruise/cruise-ship-color-status.html

“If a cruise line or cruise ship is not listed, it means that the ship is not operating or intending to operate in U.S. waters during the period of the CSO.”  Hence not list NCL Jade.

Thanks for clarifying - I missed that, but it certainly makes sense.

And we don't know if any passengers had fake CDC vaccination cards...just sayin’. It's not rocket surgery to create a handwritten card. 🤓

I have no idea why the conversation always goes here.

The vaccine does not prevent you from catching COVID.

People need to realize that fully vaccinated people catch COVID. In our town, 10% of the hospitalized COVID patients are fully vaccinated. On the first Encore cruise, fully vaccinated passengers tested positive at the terminal and were denied boarding.

How severe were the cases?  Any hospitalizations?  Any deaths?  This is the information that needs to be collected

EXACTLY...

People need to stop the "pandemic panic porn" and actually ask questions about the numbers. The devil, they say, is in the details.

11 cases on the Jade. Does that simply mean that there were 11 positive test results?

--How many were false positives?

--How many of the 11 were symptomatic?

--How many were hospitalized?

--How many died?

WHY are we not simply being given these breakdowns (we really shouldn't have to ask...it should be transparent)? Everything is generalized into "cases", but nothing concrete about the actual affects.

They follow up the antigen test with a PCR to eliminate false positives. Probably none of them even had symptoms or only minor. As long as the Greek and US governments continue to require testing of fully vaccinated people, we will see cases and perfectly healthy people having to quarantine.

I too read this and wondered why the conversation had to go here!

So glad some people look beyond those that can only complain and try and make things worse.  We have many vaccinated that are getting sick.  It's mutating, it's going to happen.

I feel NCL is handling things better than any other line and have a friend performing on the Jade and it looks much better than that 1 picture.  People have their bubbles.  If they want to let others into theirs, it is their choice.  Those that aren't comfortable stay back and party in their own space.  Choices....good or bad are choices.  Should the staff have to be babysitters?  That isn't their job.

Be safe and enjoy cruising if you want to!  I am, I leave Sunday and will be safe while cruising, just as I am on land.  As long as I test ok and can cruise!

I could be wrong, but I think the interest in this particular post is that the 100% vaccinated NCL cruise has covid onboard. Numerous CC members were adamant that having 100% vaccination policy would keep Covid off the ship. Obviously, it doesn't. It can't.

This is the question I have pondered for over a year. The way data is reported just doesn't make sense. This has now carried over into the cruise industry. The color coding system is absurd.

I do not believe this statement is accurate. MANY people on this forum expected NCL's policy would keep their ships covid free. It was the hot topic of debate for months. Granted, it is likely not many expected nCL to be covid free for the rest of the decade, but a significant number of posters expected NCL would remain covid free for at least the very first month back sailing.

I agree that the way cases are being handled onboard is most important. Most of the cases have resulted in very minimal (if any) disruption to others onboard. This is great. I'm even more impressed with MSM (non)reaction.

I'd cruse today without a second thought to safety.  Of course, I also grocery shop with no worries. Those who are concerned about exposure to the virus should be cautious selecting a cruise holiday. Even the 100% Vaccinated NCL can't keep you 'safe'.

The only way I see that NCL could keep a ship covid-free, is to not allow anyone off right after they were tested. Would speculate that most positives could have been from mingling with the public in various ports, which is totally out of control of NCL.

Even that wouldn't work because someone could be infected shortly before, there is some sort of lag between being exposed and testing positive. At some point we just need to stop testing vaccinated people

Yep. I was going to write more, but I'll stop at "yep."

Quarantined and disembarked at the next port,,,, as they should.

We don't know how many were US citizens.  Many in the EU are required to have a vaccination passport which will make it harder to fake.
