Wife Can't Go, Can I?

So my wife and I always have cruised together.  We booked a Sept cruise, simple 4 day with one of the Casino offers that she was sent - she always get's the best deals.  We just found out that her work is requiring her to be some where else and she can't go on the cruise, but I still want to go.  Will it be an issue if I just show up at the port to go, even though the rate we paid was based on her?

I can hear " fine do what ever you want "😄

I have no idea, perhaps someone here has gone through this situation.

My guess is they wouldn't let you board until the other party arrived.

Your S&S card is associated with some form of payment, so they can just charge that if you do get on without her.

You can definitely go solo.  A friend of mine did the same thing on a 2 week cruise.  Her husband hates cruising anymore so she goes on his offers.  People do not have to board together. She never told anyone that her husband wasn't with her and no one ever asked.

The cruise is already paid for two people so they are getting the full fare with only one going.

I get what you are saying.  But my question is how do they charge me?  Do they not allow me to board until she is there? Because if I am on board, then what, do they come find me and demand money.. etc. But I don't see anything that says all members of the party have to be present to board or check in at the same time.. so unless they won't allow me to check in without her then I don't see how they can charge me anything.. so i am confused on that part.. I understand the concept and theory, just curious how they carry it out.

I don't have any idea of your rate will be valid if she no shows. But "how can they charge you" is the easy part. They will charge your S&S account as they charge everything else on the ship. Just like if you CC didn't clear on the last morning or you ended up with a huge bill from the medical center, when the ship docks you can either pay your S&S account, get turned over to the police for theft, or have your account go to collections. You do have to show proof of identity to get onboard, they know who you are and how to find you....

if its an offer from the casino the person who received the offer must check-in for the cruise. it happened to a friend of mine. he tried to plead his case that it was paid for 2 people. they told him that anyone with an offer could let someone use there offers which are many if you gamble, and then not show up . the rates are very cheap they want the gambler who they sent the offer to cruises that they get there money back which they will lol. He drove to galveston lucky he just drove back they wanted him to pay regular fare for 2

I haven't been a married man for very long....   My wife would kill me if she couldn't go and I went without her instead of rebooking it for later.

If its paid for, I don't think it matters if she's a no-show.

Give it time....they all get tired of our antics and eventually wear down to the point you could get away with it 🙂

Several different takes on this.  Guess we will just have to find out when I go to check in 🙂  We have back up plan in place.. but hopefully I just walk on the ship without hassle.

And is funny, but I always play more and lose more in the casino than my wife but she always gets the better deals.

Not sure whether they will charge you the full fare, but I can tell you from experience that if the other party doesn't check in 30 minutes before sailing, they will contact you and ask if you know that they aren't going to show.

My sister and I were going on a short 4 day cruise - both of us had the casino offer so there was no problem there, but when I checked in I told the young lady that I didn't think my sister was going to make it.  Approximately 30 minutes before we were on our way, I did get a call from Guest Services asking me if I was concerned that she hadn't checked in.  They were afraid something may have happened to her on the way and didn't want to just sail without her and not let me know.  They even sent me a little gift with a note saying they were so sorry that I had to sail alone.  Awww thanks, I didn't want to tell them I have sailed alone several times and actually kind of love it.

Not sure what would happen in your case, but my PVP specifically told us that if the casino deal was for her only, they would make me pay full fare.  Would they?  Who knows, but you should probably be prepared.

Thanks everyone for the replies and just for the record, we have discussed this and she is fine with me going without her.

That's what they say...... It's like when they say, that's ok, I don't need anything so don't get me a gift for some gift giving occasion, and then you don't....usually doesn't work out well.  Or actually answering the question "Does this make me look fat?"

As posted and highlighted above

The rate was tied to the offer so wife doesn't show the offer goes byebye.

Technically they should/could charge you current rates , but as suggested call carnival or the casino department.

This. With the current cruising environment the casino department might let it go.  I would call and not possibly face a surprise cost at the port. Enjoy!

So nothing says we have to board together.  So if I board and she no shows, how do they charge me double rate?  I understand none of the perks may be given, like OBC drinks, etc.. and that's fine.  But once I am on board and she doesn't show by cut off time, do they come get me or something?

No they will not.. We had an issue a few years ago where my daughter 18, my step daughter 21, and step son 17 were all sharing a cabin.. This was on NCL but the night before we were to board my Step kids had a family emergency and could not go. We knew there had to be a 21 yr old. In each cabin so we called to move me to that cabin on cruise day and they actually said my daughter could not board without the 21 yr old step daughter and that she couldn’t go. I was livid and decided to try and board her with me and got her on no problem.. They did realize by midweek that she was alone in her cabin and I had to say I was moving to her room which I never did.. Never kicked us off the ship or charged me extra..

They won’t bump your rate either because you paid for both of you even if the contract says so..

Why can't you both check in and have her not get on the ship. She could have ran to the store for something and just missed the boat? Of course, I wouldn't want to hold up the cruise sail time waiting for her.

Wow! Just Wow!

They need to call they signed a contract that has rules. 1 in which the wife needs to be on the boat to keep said deal which should include the casino rate.

Also another poster no idea what Ncl has to do with this it is a different line.

If as far as the husband knows "she just ran to the store for something". They will hold up the sailing as long as they can for her. Meanwhile I'm sure they will have security check with the husband to see if he can get ahold of her. This would be such an awkward situation. And unless the husband is an Oscar winning actor, pretty sure they will realize something is up when he doesn't seem concerned that his wife has apparently disappeared and cant' be found. This is a terrible idea.

In the contract it does say the person who’s offer it is would have to be there

with that said I’ve read many many many posts on different casino sites and all the people did was have the one be a no show

I’ve NEVER read one post or comment from someone who was them charged double

could that happen?  Yes it’s in the contract…..Odds of it happening are slim to none

I say they should go for it then..........after all, they are gamblers, haha

I’m in FB casino groups for Carnival, NCL, Royal and MSC for over 15 years

Ive Read my share of this same scenario throughout those years and NOT once did the person have problems boarding or have to pay double rate

I’d go and have a blast with the understanding that there could be a extra charge per the contract….which would be slim to none happening

Oh and a few people answered stating you can’t board because she’s not there….that is totally false.  You’re on the booking and can 100% board

some people fly in from different States etc and don’t all board together

Lastly make sure to have your credit card registered for the sail n sign card

Except that there is a poster on this thread who relayed that a friend got denied boarding for that exact reason.

So apparently it can and does occur.

Casino offers are a different animal.  NCL policies do not extend to Carnival

What some aren't understanding is that if the cruise is already paid for and one person doesn't show up, the solo traveler is paying full fare.  If it's $100 per person, $200 for two and it's already paid, no one is going to be looking for you to pay more.  It's already paid.

And again, you don't need to board together.  My sister and I travel from two different states and have never boarded together on casino offers or any offer.
