It’s not the casino that needs a waiver. It’s DHS immigration rules that effectively prohibit a “cruise to nowhere.” https://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=

If we cannot dock at all in Bermuda, I believe NCL will need a waiver of the PVSA requirement that it cannot have a closed loop cruise (a cruise out of and retuning to the same U.S. port) without calling at a foreign port. I hope someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

Could end up like Charlie and the MTA: ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ "Let me tell you the story Of some hopeful sailors On a disappointing and fateful day They set out from Boston For Bermuda beach time Went to sail on NCL ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ Did they ever return No they never returned And their fate is still unlearned They may sail forever On the seas and oceans They're the ship that never returned." ♫ ♫ ♫ ♫ Enjoy! I'm sure a waiver was given due to weather emergency.
snorklinbarb Posted October 28, 2021 #57 Share Posted October 28, 2021 (edited) @GeezerCoupleYikes! Hope nobody requests that from the piano entertainer!😉 So sorry you are unlikely to dock again today! Back to the pool or is the wind causing the water to slosh around? Your first "Away" ship - you must be getting to know it very well and like you say may never have just 38% capacity again! I hope someone will correct me if I’m wrong. It’s exactly this. The PVSA is the cruise line equivalent of the Jones Act for cargo vessels. It prevents cruise ships from cruising without a foreign stop unless they are an American cruise line — hence the NCL America subsidiary doing the Hawaiian cruises. Alaska had a specialty exemption passed by Congress this year because Canada wouldn’t allow cruise lines to enter. I’m not sure what the process is for a weather related exemption in this case! Rare Turtles06 Posted October 28, 2021 Author #60 Share Posted October 28, 2021 It’s about 1:30pm local time. We’ve just sailed past Bermuda and turned away from her. Seems really unlikely we’ll dock today, though the Captain has yet to make another announcement.
Rare Turtles06 Posted October 28, 2021 Author #61 Share Posted October 28, 2021 I’m a very big believer in communication, especially when things aren’t going as planned. It would be really great if the Captain would let folks in on what’s going on this afternoon. We’ve just made another pass by Bermuda. Still going to try to dock sometime today? Giving up for the day?

charlie murphy Posted October 28, 2021 #63 Share Posted October 28, 2021 here's something to ponder as we feel your pain and disappointment. Go to the deck with a cold drink face east and toast all us sitting at our desks hoping for calm seas around the your ship and a successful tie down at the dock ..... and then toast: At least I am NOT at work! to all of you hoping the best for me , I'll drink to your well wishs! hang in there we are sending good vibes! 2
stacvand Posted October 28, 2021 #64 Share Posted October 28, 2021 I looked at the latest MARINE forecast. 2 other passengers agree. Odds are we will not dock today nor tomorrow. Set expectations low. If it happens it will be a happy surprise.

Friday Noonish showing single digits. Maybe they will pull in just to say the did stop in Bermuda Lol What a bummer, I feel your pain
meatball_nyc Posted October 28, 2021 #66 Share Posted October 28, 2021 It is a bummer. To be so close, yet so far... At least you’re not home raking up all the leaves from the nor’easter we had on Tuesday (yeah, that’s my day today). Cheers to everyone onboard Breakaway! 🥂 Who IS the Captain anyway??? Why is he being so quiet??

The current Captain is Andreas Karlstrom. He speaks so softly that his announcements can barely be heard. Fortunately, Cruise Director Alvin comes on right after to repeat everything the Captain just said. (Which, so far this afternoon, and it’s nearly 4pm, has been nothing.) 1

Rare Turtles06 Posted October 28, 2021 Author #71 Share Posted October 28, 2021 (edited) The Captain just announced we’ve given up for the day, after several attempts to enter the channel; wind gusts of 30-40 knots. We’ve ordered the pilot for 7am tomorrow and expect to be docked at 9am. The pilots in Bermuda don’t work in the dark. CPT Trips Posted October 28, 2021 #72 Share Posted October 28, 2021 If you do get into the channel in the daylight, go high on the ship and look at how close to the reef the ship gets. I surely would not want to attempt that passage in the dark.

The best toast I heard in awhile. I mean when I rest or have a vacation, espcially cruising, I always think of those people who stayed on shore and are working. I really hope that they will also have time to chill on board a cruiser or at least travel somewhere soon. This thought makes me a little happier
