Cancelled OLife Shorex

So the weather for our cruise next week is daily thunderstorms (60% chance or more), except on boarding day. While for some shorex, it wouldn't matter, as we'll get wet anyway (snorkeling), but the lightning/thunder potential out on a catamaran gives us pause. And of course the mud consideration on slippery Mayan pyramid treks. So what happens with cancellations, whether by us or by the tour operators?

We chose shorex as our OLife benefit & got some "free" and others at a reduced rate, The latter will be refunded, but would any cancelled that were free be credited as OBC?  Have never been in quite this situation before. Thanks.

Despite the “published price” of any O Life tour cancelled by O, your onboard account will be credited the “original value” of O Life tours which is $100. Of course, you can book an allowable O Life tour replacement (e.g., most priced up to $199).

Additionally, I believe that the $100/O Life shorex refund is in a form of a NON-REFUNDABLE OBC

Shorex as part of the OLife package is just like drinks in the Beverage Package, use it or lose it. Can’t take it home with you.

So if someone gives a gift as OBC and all not used? Just gotta drink and spend more!  Does Gift shop purchases use OBC too?

No, that would be Refundable OBC when someone gifts it. You'll get that back if you don't spend it.

And yes, gift shop, excursions, La Reserve, Culinary center, all can be paid with OBC, either type, Refundable or Non Refundable.

I've got a lot of nice stuff from the Boutiques. Watches, sunglasses, clothes, a real nice leather Polo duffle bag, spinning globe, and other stuff I'm sure I've forgotten.

Depends where the GIFT OBC comes from

Most OBC from a TA would be  the non refundable type

If a friend gives you a gift of OBC it is refundable

Can't you just purchase chips in the casino with non-refundable credit and then cash them out?

Not sure how it works on Oceania, but there will be some gotcha there. I know Celebrity has a system to make this work in their favor. Chips purchased with non refundable have to be played. If you win then you can cash in your winnings. So do you feel lucky?

Half on black, half on red on the same spin and hope not to bust.

Chips purchased through your on board account carry a service charge (3 or 5%??).

OBC from my TA is ALWAYS refundable. I can get it in cash at the end of the cruise, or have it credited to my credit card. (I don't normally walk around with that much cash.)

Not  ALL  TA OBC are create equal

you are lucky to get the  refund of the unused amount

This is true.

If there’s a line on your O Invoice that has your TA named along with the term OCAPP (be it tips or SBC), those are primarily “pass through” incentive funds from Oceania (for use by your TA) and they are non-refundable.

Unless the SBC is an outright gift purchased by your TA (in which it will appear as a “gift purchase” on your O invoice), you will not see TA-provided refundable SBC on an O invoice. You should however see it on the TA’s invoice.

Note however that some TAs will provide $$$ rebates instead of SBC though both will come from TA sources (e.g., commission sharing).

That's what I prefer – a check shortly before I sail.  Then I can use it anyway I want, without worrying about getting it credited on board and whether it's refundable.

@Host Jazzbeau Moving off topic to rebates…but…

Agencies get commissions before departure?
Yes, If client FOP check and net to cruise line. (Why wouldn’t it just be discounted?)  But if FOP is credit card and the cruise line is the CC merchant?  Always been comm after travel hasn’t it?  That was never the norm, something new here?

AFAIK  the comm usually came to the agency after travel  at least it used to work that way

I will have to ask a TA in the family if it is different now
