luv4cruises Posted January 23, 2022 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2022 I hate reading the news. Just when I have resolved NOT to cancel my April cruise here comes the CDC with a new warning. I have faith that Omicron will subside! 🤞🤞🤞🤞 https://apple.news/Ay7ak3n0kRMizYFHhEDmJcg

Rare keesar Posted January 23, 2022 #7 Share Posted January 23, 2022 It will be difficult to snorkel on a cruise that does not stop at any ports. We are planning on a cruise to nowhere i.e. not expecting to stop at any ports when out to sea. I guess you could snorkel in the pool and hot tub. Don't cancel your cruise.
Virginia100 Posted January 23, 2022 #9 Share Posted January 23, 2022 Regardless of ones personal thoughts on the CDC, it’s a governmental agency, one that the Caribbean islands follow for their own protocols which effects us cruisers. One reason why the island protocols are getting tighter every week. Bonaire got tighter this past week. As the surge is not expected to crest until mid February, it will probably be after the current winter season (April) before it all relaxes. Hopefully the summer season in Europe is better. But, as Celrbtity is sailing in summer in the Caribbean which it has not done in the past they are probably hedging their bets. Crazy world, huh!!

What if the department at a business, like Accounting, said ehhh. This is hard and confusing and people don't like it. We're not really interested in trying to oversee Accounting after all. Then what??? Fair enough. They are just doing their jobs and satisfying their mandate by issuing the alerts. But to unnecessarily worry/scare people, the CDC needs to put the alerts in proper context with a disclaimer such as: Although a level 4 warning means that you should avoid travel to these countries, please realize that you may be traveling from a region of the US where community spread is so out of control that traveling to such level 4 country may actually be safer for you than staying in your region and commingling with others such as in restaurants, supermarkets, bars, casinos, etc.. Bingo. I found it quite humorous when they moved Canada to level 4. On a per captia basis, new infections are running at nearly 3x the rate in Canada. Be careful, take precautions, but look at things in the proper context.

Don't cancel your cruise. i don’t mean to be rude, but that doesn’t make sense. Just because the same standards should be applied within the US doesn’t negate the need for them elsewhere. Yes, the CDC has had many issues in their messaging, way too many, but all of us should remember they are scientists and medical professionals, not politicians and spin masters. As such, they say what they think at any one time, even if it changes the next hour. Smart alec comments just show the speakers lack of sophistication, not that the CDC is deficient. 2 1

redjetz Posted January 24, 2022 #15 Share Posted January 24, 2022 rich, you made a recommendation for someone not to cancel their cruise, which given the fact that you aren’t on the staff of the CDC (correct me if I am wrong), just doesn’t make sense.

The problem in most Caribbean countries is very limited Healthcare. Jamaica has fewer ICU beds that Flagstaff AZ. They are not a good place should you require a high level of care.

sfcsu Posted January 25, 2022 #22 Share Posted January 25, 2022 We have three couples traveling on Reflection at the end of February. We have three aft balcony cabins next to each other. I don't even care if we cruise to nowhere right now. My Azamara cruise was canceled and I just need to get out! I will mask up and be careful, and even call room service if I'm uncomfortable for my meals, but I am getting away for a week.
