Have you taken a one or two night cruise from Vancouver?

I'm curious about the one and two night sailings from Vancouver, BC. Has anyone taken one? I used to have a client who took them every year or so to treat his wife for his birthday but we've lost touch. Wondering if the hot tubs would be available to use? And if the casino would open?

TIA.

Robin

In 2012, I took the Westerdam from Ft. Lauderdale to Seattle. The Cruise Director on the first day said that the cruise was actually going to have three personalities. From FLL to San Diego, it was going to be a seniors' cruise. From SD to Vancouver, it was going to be a family cruise. From Vancouver to Seattle, it was going to be a PARTY cruise. He was right! I think all venues will be open.

I've taken them many times.  Hot tubs should be available, but I don't use them.  Note, there's not a lot of time to use them as it's basically an overnighter.  Ship departs at 4pm, dinner around 6pm, show at 8pm, bedtime and then breakfast/debarkation the next day.

Casino's are inconsistent.  Sometimes they open, other times they don't.  Staff transition?

A friend and I did a 3 night cruise back in 2016: Vancouver Seattle Vancouver.  My husband called it a cruise to nowhere as he was watching some map and after Seattle I guess there was time to waste so he saw it heading up the Sunshine Coast.

Anyway, we had a lot of fun.  Went to Chihuly Gardens by the Space Needle which was a great sunny day in early October.  My friend had not been in a suite before so booked a Neptune suite.   Wonderful girls getaway.

Neither of us gamble so I can’t remember if the casino was open but my guess was no.

I am not sure they get far enough away from land to open the casino. I know on our Alaskan cruises returning to Seattle after the final stop in Victoria the casino was not open. That was a few years ago so maybe things have changed.

In my experience, these little runs between Seattle and Vancouver are just booze cruises FOR HAL CORPORATE EMPLOYEES!  Because I live in the Seattle metro area I have been on quite a few of them as opening or closing segments for longer cruises.  The ambience of the ship on these segments can only be described as RAUCOUS!  I generally stay in my stateroom and just grab something from the Dive In or Lido.

Once I was dumb enough to book Tamarind.  They had pushed tables together for a group of 12!!!  Can you imagine a group of 12 in the Tamarind?  Anyway, they were all drunk and LOUD.  As I was leaving I said to the manager, "They're corporate, aren't they?".  He just rolled his eyes and nodded his head.

Can't answer your question about the casino, although I seriously doubt that it will be open.  They are usually not far out enough from the land perimeter to be permitted to open, as @Laminator has commented.  And, as I stated previously, I just mostly stay in my stateroom for the duration of these segments.

Again, this has just been my experience on these short-segment cruises.

Like others we were on this 1 night cruise only because it was the last part of a much longer cruise. It was nothing but a full on drunk cruise. Red wine spilled on carpets, noisy…felt very sorry for the hard-working crew who had to turn it around in only a few hours into the elegant ship it had been.

Wow…ours was not noisy or rowdy that we saw or heard.   Maybe (and thankfully) we missed that!    I know I had heard before that these short cruises can be a booze cruise but I’m sure thankful we didn’t see it on ours.

The one time we did it, the cruise was not so rowdy either.  Everyone seemed to be in bed early, specially all those older men travelling with their nieces! 😉

I’m going on the April 28th cruise to Seattle and back. So I’ll be able to let you know how it is. But if we like it then we are probably going to book 1 every year. Seeing at we got a really good deal, it’ll be a nice get away since we haven’t traveled in 2 years.
