Heads Up: Sky Princess Wifi has no wifi

Omgg. I stand corrected. Internet seems to be working??? I am in my stateroom and surfing, courtesy of Medallion Net. This is good news. Really good news. I have my fingers, toes, and eyeballs crossed that I am not dreaming.

If this posts, Medallion Net is working. We have left port so I'm not pulling wifi from the terminal.

It seems that the TA cruises simply don't get any decent satellite connectivity. We had a lot of unhappy passengers.

This is *exactly* what I had been telling people on the Roll Call prior to sailing.  (Yes...we were supposed to be on that TA but we missed our ATL to FLL flight!)  Nobody believed that there was going to be internet issues.  I'm sorry that they found out the hard way that I was being straight with them! 😟

Last week on the Majestic Princess CA Coastal the MedalionNet was nearly non functional most days (with occasional exceptions) perhaps there are some related issues with equipment or service providers?  I wonder if Princess (really Carnival Corp) might work with Elon Musk and switch to Starlink??

There has been *some* speculation that maybe Princess has changed providers...maybe, maybe not!  It just seems like Medallion Net *used* to be much better for most itineraries.

Update on Sky WiFi:

It's so slow that BA.com thinks I'm a bot and won't allow access. So, once again I'll have to take my computer to a spot off the ship to do basic business. Not how I planned to spend the day in Gibraltar.

Forget about accessing any site if you have it set for 2-step verification. 100% not possible.

You should see the line in the Internet Center. I feel bad for the staff there.

Can I ask, have you spoken to anyone on the ship about this ongoing issue and what did they say if you did. Many thanks.

Yes, I have spoken to Guest Services and the internet manager- and many other passengers are doing the same. Standard answer is that they are having the same problems and can’t talk to their families. Not a good answer in my opinion. And refunds are not what we want- we want the wonderful WiFi we were promised.

New issue since yesterday is that the tv does not work for ordering room service. When you choose room service, it waits a minute and then flips back to the main menu. Finally got the app open but the food ordering button just keeps spinning. So much for all the “you can any have anything delivered anywhere.”

 Very disappointing.

Captain just announced change- substituting Gibraltar for Casablanca. Not surprised.

Why was this changed? I have Gibraltar on a cruise in the very new future. Doesn't look much to do there.

Thanks for keeping us posted, much appreciated. If it happens on the next cruises at least we can tell them that they have known about the problem for some time.

No, not a good answer at all. Particularly not when people have to complete passenger locator forms. Part of the reason I chose Princess over another line was the WiFi provisions for this purpose so I won’t be at all happy if it doesn’t work properly.

Greetings from the Regal Princess.  We, too, are on a trans Atlantic cruise (departed FLL on March12).  And, as the passengers on the Sky, we have not had internet for the entire crossing.  We are now one day away from Cadiz, Spain.  So, ten days without internet.  It is now very spotty at best.  Princess has refunded all charges for purchased internet.

How are things now on the Regal?

They knew about the problem before they left Fort Lauderdale- OBC refunds had already given.

Life on the Regal is pretty darn good!!!  Internet is up and running, so people are pleased.   We have had no issues with the TV.  Medallion appears to do everything one could desire.  Due to rough weather our ports of call at Malaga and Cartagena are cancelled.  The captain has advised to not go out on open decks; the winds are 45-50 MPH and seas have 10-12 foot swells.  We are now in route to Palma, Mallorca, arriving March 24.  We will have an overnight there.  Onboard Covid testing will be March 25.  Arriving in Barcelona on March 26.  We are continuing to Athens.  Hopefully the weather will improve as we sail east.  Despite these unforeseen difficulties, the cruise has been just great!!!  It's so good to be back cruising again.

That makes no difference really though does it if you were expecting to have the advertised and paid for in advance WiFi. Still poor in my opinion.

Very poor on many levels- if you paid cash for the service you should get a cash refund not OBC!

With prepaid drinks packages, speciality restaurants, excursions etc what are people supposed to use OBC for. I never see much in the shops I want.

Add to that the fact that money is money but OBC costs the line very little due to the mark ups.

Yes if you paid cash you should get cash back in the currency paid.

Special, cutesy holders for their medallions?

To help people remember the trip!

Grinning, ducking and running!

Very funny 😀

Can I just point out that I am Scottish and we don’t spend money on anything with word “cutesy” in it (in fact where at all possible we don’t spend anything - we are a careful people when it comes to purchases large or small)

Thanks for this. We have heard gossip on sky princess that it's an issue with a satellite affecting all transatlantic voyages, and we've also heard it's a part needed on this ship. No official explanation or timeline for repair has been given.  Questions to guest services are met with no new info.  Not sure if they don't know what's wrong or just aren't saying.   ATM doesn't work either. Does your atm work? Seems internet related .

Maybe they forgot to plug in the extension cord before they pulled away from the pier. 🤣

So sorry, I feel your pain...but couldn't resist.

Internet onboard is worse than ever. Even texts won't go.

I'm sitting in Lisbon cruise terminal using their wifi. And I counted 33 other pax  doing the same.

So much for "Best Wi-fi at Sea" claim.

made me think of a couple dining next to us on a British isles cruise who were ex pats from Edinburgh telling us they were looking forward to picking up the man’s customer tailored trousers when we’re were in port there.

Thrifty?

This is so strange to me.  We were on the inaugural Sky transatlantic from Barcelona in 2019 and we had fantastic wifi!  I remember streaming, shopping online...all the interwebs!  Something big must be broken!

On that ship.  Atleast they did get notice a few days pre cruise. We would have used our Cancel for any reason insurance, as my travel mate works on ship & counts and n internet. Several in this cruise spent port time doing their work. U fortunate

Not sure if it is too late to help those currently cruising, but you can use OBC to fund your account in the casino, then cash out with the attendant there for real cash money. I have quite a bit of OBC on my next cruise, and no real need for a lot of it. I’m sure I will be visiting the casino for a pull or two on a slot machine before the end.

Thrifty depends on what they negotiated to pay for it😀
