May 2022 Update: HAL Dry Docks, Charters & Groups Onboard

Good morning and welcome to the May edition of Dry Docks, Charters and Groups.

The Dry Dock situation continues to be a puzzle.  Volendam and Zaandam were in Cadiz for longer than 3 weeks.  There does not appear to be a gap in Nieuw Amsterdam's schedule during 2022/2023 for her overdue dry dock and Nieuw Statendam is getting close to dry dock time.

On the Charters front, there continues to be gaps in sailing schedules, but I cannot find any information on what is happening to the ships during those gaps.

I would expect a substantial increase in Group bookings over the coming months as the Groups find their appetite for cruising and HAL enjoys the benefits of a block booking and probably substantial deposit.

Please note that the sailings listed are taken from various sources so it is possible that the itinerary does not coincide with the currently published HAL itinerary.

As usual, if you have information about groups charters or dry docks then please post here and I will update in the next file.

New information since last update is shown in RED.

Should Volendam (ongoing to 7/3/22) Ukranian refugee housing be included as a charter)

Roy

I did think about it, but decided that as it is already mentioned in the 'Daily' thread, that I would not include it in the Charters thread.  Perhaps if the 'charter' is extended I will need to revisit that thought!

@AlphenI know that you posted, but it now vanished!  As my reply!

Basically I said that I was aware that Nieuw Amsterdam had a forced dry dock in January/February for azipod repairs, but I was not aware of any other work done.  As far as I am aware, no one has reported any updates from Nieuw Amsterdam.

I think I may watch for the next 'Live from Nieuw Amsterdam' thread and ask the author to pose a question to the Captain about any dry dock work, during 'Ask the Captain'.

Your list shows Oosterdam groups on Alaska sailings for July and August! I do believe I am booked to sail the Med during that time!

Good spot!  That should have been on Westerdam.

(I am on Oosterdam in June in Med too, so I was obviously in robot mode when updating!)

Thanks

While on the Zuiderdam recently, the hotel director (Henk Mensink) told me that the ship would have a 3 wk dry dock in Nov/Dec this yr. I checked the HAL website and see a gap from 12/1 to 12/15. I assume the work will be done during that period to get her ready for the Jan World Cruise.

Thank you!  I had noted the gap in the schedule - which is long for a dry dock- followed by a few weeks (over Christmas and New Year)  in Caribbean before the GWV.

Thank you for this first hand information.

My Roll Call (for the PC transit preceeding) says that

Nieuw Amsterdam:

30 October 2022 – 06 November 2022 : Caribbean

Is no longer chartered but is a bookable 7-day Caribbean sprint. I saw it on HAL website yesterday (Grand Turk/HMC/Nassau), but it is not coming up tonight -- go figure! Someone on my RC says they booked it...

The Charter cruise (Maltshop Memories) is still listing this cruise and I can find normal cruise on the HAL website.

There is, however, a 5 day cruise to the Caribbean (following on from the PC transit) October 25 - 30th which calls to HMC, Grand Turk and Nassau.

Oh I see! Forgot how long my cruise is! That is the one that some people are continuing on board. Sorry for my confusion!

No, as @VMax1700supplied above, the short previously chartered FIVE day cruise that follows my Panama transit, is NOT the SEVEN day Maltshop Cruise. You are gold.

First time I've heard of it.....I wonder how packed it would be....I often listen to Celtic Thunder and another Alaska cruise definitely has it's appeal.....:)

Friends of ours went on one a couple of years ago.  They said it was 7 days of total party, but very well organised and great entertainment (if you like Irish music).

We were on a BHB just after one of the Irish charters and the shops staff kept asking us if we had missed disembarking from partying too much 🤐 🤣

They certainly don't hold back on the level of performer,  Nathan Carter and Daniel O'Donnell are both huge in Ireland and with Irish audiences.

Been on that charter. Keep in mind the charter is for the whole ship! We had no Lido for a dinner option…only MDR which ended up being a zoo! Other entertainment areas were part of the charter, too…so it’s not like a normal cruise at all. We liked the entertainment but would never do it again.
