There is a problem with that. Mardi Gras, like every other ship, was designed for a certain number of people. You can't crowd two ships worth of people on to Mardi Gras.

No, there's no way you could put 3000 passengers on Mardi Gras, but it's possible they might be able to fit a few hundred. The person on the Mardi Gras says they are sailing full, but it's always possible to convert a public space into an emergency shelter if needed. I guess we'll have to wait until 8 pm when she sails to find out what's happening.

I'd assume crew would also join the Mardi Gras then? But can they actually fit that many more passengers onto another ship? Seems doubtful. When is the Mardi Gras set to return to Port Canaveral?

Saturday, same as Freedom. Mardi Gras + Freedom had Amber Cove, Grand Turk, usually sea days next to each other and Port Canaveral on the same days.

But you can add enough people to bring it up to max capacity, hopefully some of those without passports who cannot easily fly back.

I never understand why people cruise without their passports and without travel insurance. We all know, "you just never know" what might happen during a cruise. The NCL Escape in Puerto Plata and now Freedom in Grand Turk. Always have your passport when you cruise. 🙂

I guess so but they wouldn't want to discomfort the Mardi Gras guests

In emergency situations they will make exceptions to the rule and all of those Mardi Gras guests saw exactly what happened on Freedom. "Discomfort" is nothing compared to having your cruise completely canceled by a fire. Besides, they'll have a lot to discuss during the sea day back to Port Canaveral. 🙂

I agree with you 100%.  It almost seems like rewarding bad behavior to offer the MG (upgrade) to those without passports, but it would be the practical thing to do.  Of course, we are all assuming that Carnival will decide to get people back to Port Canaveral by means other than on the Magic.  That might not be their plan.

According to the guest in one of the FB Groups I'm in, the Mardi Gras is full, so if they bring folks onboard, they would most likely have to convert a public space to makeshift sleeping quarters. She did confirm they have delayed departure from 3:30pm to 8:00pm from Grand Turk, but they have a scheduled sea day tomorrow. So she'll be able to still get back to Port Canaveral in time on Saturday.

Could it also be that the Freedom will sail, and that the Mardi Gras is being delayed so that she can "escort" the Freedom back to PC? Will be interesting to see how this plays out. :classic_cool:

Sleeping in public spaces sounds like an extreme measure, definitely not the “upgraded experience” I imagined.

Ok, Ship has a major fire. Seems someone in authority has already reviewed the ship and said it was ok to take 3000+ souls on an ocean voyage?

One word, Hogwash.

With that said, thank God it happened in port. All OK, that is all that counts. 🙂

That's a VERY interesting idea, but would the Coast Guard AND the insurance companies allow Freedom to sail with passengers without an investigation? The worst thing that could happen is another fire, but this time it would be at sea.

Usually Mardi Gras and Freedom (and Elation when it did those cruises) head back to Port Canaveral together

discomfort wasn't the right word but I was just thinking about the people who complain about everything

Oh I'm sure they've been complaining all day about how the black smoke ruined their morning along with the Mardi Gras crew clearing the top decks this morning. "THEY RUINED MY CRUISE! IT WAS JUST A SMALL FIRE!" 😂😅😂  Those people crack me up.

It could have been an opportunity to sample the newest, largest Carnival ship for two nights.  But not by sleeping in public spaces, overloading food services, entertainment, etc.  Definitely not a fun or “upgraded experience” opportunity.

The May 28 cruise is officially canceled. Refund and 100% fcc based on your cruise fare. Up to $200 for any travel plans that can't be changed.

Friend invited me on a casino deal so looks like I just get a refund no fcc. Boo.

I'm sorry but not surprised.  We are booked on the June 16 cruise and haven't gotten a cancellation email yet.

Hi all, currently on the Mardi Gras, sitting on deck 8, and looking at the Freedom.

We return to Port Canaveral on Saturday. The ship is close to capacity. We are delayed leaving Grand Turk as many of the Mardi Gras’s engineers are on the Freedom assisting with inspections and to see if they can get the engine running, and this is delaying our departure until 8 pm. The captain just spoke on the PA system confirming that the Mardi Gras is providing support while we are in port today.

No word on any guests from the Freedom joining us on the Mardi Gras, or word on plans on how the Freedom passengers are getting back to Port Canaveral. Currently Freedom guests are on shore and on deck, some are even swimming in the pools. If it weren’t for the debris on deck and burned off funnel, you wouldn’t have any idea of an incident.

Hope this clears up some of the speculation and confusion.

Curious if Grand Turk even has the excess housing space for 3k people. Maybe they can keep the hoteling power on and keep folks onboard until evacuation.

They are staying on the ship and everything is operational until the conquest arrives.
