ChrisB123 Posted July 3, 2022 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2022 I've forgotten so much about using these boards so forgive me if I double post. When booking the Discovery Princess in October, I found out we are now Platinum. The Princess web site, seems to say that means 10% off some things, (don't know what) priority boarding and a "lounge." Not interested in the lounge, the 10% discount is good, but how does priority boarding work now that we have the Medallion? We have a mini, so do we still get welcome Champaign? 😁 Any and all info would be welcome. It's been 5 years since we have cruised so I'm sure with C19 there has been plenty of changes. Rare CineGraphic Posted July 3, 2022 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2022 Priority boarding is only a factor if you're at the port before boarding starts. It's nothing much...maybe a separate check-in line, but many times it's longer than the other line. As for your mini, you'll still get something with bubbles in it, not sure if you can call it champagne.

Rare tetleytea Posted July 3, 2022 #5 Share Posted July 3, 2022 (edited) Platinum means you're not eligible for the Blue medallion exclusive event, where first-time Princess cruisers are eligible for over $1000 in prizes. The last two cruises we were on we traveled with two other couples who have only been on one or two Princess cruises - we are Elite. We made a bet on who would get through the check in quickest - both times they beat us by 5-10 minutes - and they are still laughing at us even after I flashed my black card and asked them DYKWIA??🙂

ChrisB123 Posted July 3, 2022 Author #10 Share Posted July 3, 2022 How about disembarkation? I've always thought it was the worst part. Like a cattle call. Is the "lounge," better or still crowded?
Rare ghgeckos Posted July 3, 2022 #11 Share Posted July 3, 2022 Platinum lounge is just as crowded IMO.
Thrak Posted July 3, 2022 #12 Share Posted July 3, 2022 The best part of becoming Platinum was being able to wait for disembarkation in a nice location. You will be able to go to somewhere like Club Fusion and sit in a quiet venue at a table and there "should" be beverages (coffee, water, juice) available. It's soooooooooo much better than waiting in the hall on the floor outside the packed Explorer's or in the Casino. You will also be eligible to purchase the Princess Travel Insurance at the Platinum level while paying the lower "regular" (forget the name) price. Platinum also used to get you decent free Internet minutes but that has gone by the wayside. 1

In Alaska where there are lots of new cruisers, and now with ships running at a little more than half-full, the disembarkation lounge was pretty much empty.

In my opinion, this is one of the best (and consistent) perks available to you. We're ALWAYS going to get insurance...and getting the "higher" level coverage for the price of the "standard" is a real plus. We have used it on 2 occasions now; Insurance...don't leave home without it! ESPECIALLY given the state of airline reliability these days!

I wish it was champagne, but, it's some cheap sparkling wine. Baby Duck sparkling wine comes to mind, the same caliber as what they offer you....lol
Rare geoherb Posted July 3, 2022 #17 Share Posted July 3, 2022 Platinum means you've sailed on Princess for 50 days or have five cruise credits. Most people get just one cruise credit per cruise. Solos get double, full suite passengers also get double, and a solo in a full suite gets triple. If you get to the port before they start boarding, having priority boarding is great. There's a separate area for Platinum folks to wait in most terminals. There's another area for Elite and suite passengers. They'll start boarding the Elite and suite passengers first, and then the Platinum. It's great to get on the ship ahead of others if you want to sign up for the Sanctuary, Chef's Table, etc. 1

You can sign up by calling the Dine Line on your phone or by visiting passenger services. It's $115 per person on the Royal and new ships that have the "Lumiere" tables for it. It's $95 per person on the older ships. It's $15 less if you do not drink wine.

ChrisB123 Posted July 5, 2022 Author #25 Share Posted July 5, 2022 No no no, not on a buffet line. It was usually at the steak house and served with Fry's and mushy peas. It used to be only served once on a 7 day cruise and twice on a 14 day for lunch. I had the same in the UK a few times just last year, and it WAS better! 😀
