Alternative to parking at the Manhattan Cruise port

Parking at the Manhattan cruise port is expensive.  I've searched the Internets and there ARE some other parking lots around the area. One even touts themselves as being directly across the street from the port but when google mapping it, there is a highway in between them and the terminal.

What other alternative parking lots, that you have used, that are there that we could utilize within a short walking distance?  What was the walk like and how much was it per day?

Thanks in advance

The vast majority park at the pier, it’s super easy, safe, and a great deal in Manhattan. The other option you found gets more expensive with taxes. If you have a vehicle that’s a small suv or higher it cost extra, they drive you back and forth to the pier, it’s not right across the street.

$40 a night in midtown Manhattan is extremely competitive from a price standpoint, especially when you consider there is no upcharge for SUVs at the MCT that you will run into at virtually any other parking garage in Manhattan (which can be $15-20 per day extra). The other thing to consider is that you park your car at MCT and it sits where you leave it-- at a nearby valet garage your car could potentially be moved around several times per day increasing the chance of a bump or scratch.

Theres no getting around the fact that parking in Manhattan is incredibly expensive. When we cruise from Manhattan we take a train into the city and avoid bringing a car in at all.

Truth in advertising!!  Or lack thereof.  I did see the note about "oversized" vehicles and wondered if like a Honda CRV or Toyota Rav4 would qualify as "oversized."

Thanks for the reply

Good points!!  There is something to be said about convenience, being right there at the port vs having to walk or take a cab/shuttle or other.

We are normally leaving our car home but not the case this time.

So we have no alternate location except Brooklyn Cruise Terminal parking run by the same operator as yours.  We are considering it since it's like a 100 feet from the  terminal, security,  lighting, gated and convenient. It's there after arriving back.

There is no other choice. Except ours are 30 not 40 per day.

You don't want to walk the streets a distance away when there it's only down the stairs.

Another option is to park at Port Imperial in Weehawken NJ and take the ferry over to Manhattan and walk the few blocks to the cruise pier.    Parking is around $20/day.

We've done it several times.  Helps to avoid the NYC traffic and tunnel / bridge tolls.

We did exactly this back in June for our first-ever trip out of the MCT. Stayed at the Residence Inn right across the street from the Ferry Terminal, parked for the week in the huge covered garage attached to the hotel ($22/day BTW; the $20/day garage is one block away) then grabbed the ferry ($9/pp each way) to Manhattan. 13 minute walk and we were at Pier 88.

Makes sense - particularly if coming from west or south - not so much if coming from New England or upstate New York which makes driving to/from Manhattan Cruise terminal so easy.  Driving in north Jersey is something I generally try to avoid.

If your cruise is longer than a week, you might want to consider a one-way rental car (we have done this a few times using Hertz).   I drive to the terminal, drop off DW and our luggage, drive a few blocks to the nearest rental car office (often located in a parking garage) and then stroll back to the port.  A bit of a hassle, but well worth it for a longer cruise.

Folks need to accept that anything in NYC is expensive!  You are in a city where most do not cringe at paying $12+ for a beer, $20+ for a pastrami sandwich, etc.  We have cruised, many times, to and from NYC and have used just about every option from parking at the ports (NYC, Redhook and Bayonne), renting one-way rental cars, using the train (and then Uber), and even taking a bus (and then Uber from the Port Authority Bus station).   None of the options are inexpensive.  Parking in NJ and using the ferry (as has been posted) is not my idea of convenience (or fun) especially if it is a rainy day.  This would be a great idea if a ferry dock was closer to the port.
