Please tell me you were able to get a donair when you were in Halifax.  It's the only food I've never been able to find anywhere else than Nova Scoita.

No, I decided on having another lobster roll instead. :classic_laugh:

We were up at 7 am to partly sunny skies and calm seas as the Carnival Legend makes her way to Halifax. Here is the view from our balcony looking forward and aft…..

The Adventure of the Seas, and some “Dam” ship, have arrived before us….

IMG_6643-X2.jpg

Because we are the third ship, we are forced to dock in this industrial area…..

IMG_6641-X2.jpg

Because we are docking in an industrial area, we are not allowed to walk on the pier, and have to be shuttled to the cruise piers. Here’s all the information…..

Atlantic Hemlock. We have some not-so-fond memories of her in Saint John. Back in 2010, we did a four-day NYC cruise to Saint John over Labor Day weekend. In all our sailings, we've had three that were storm-impacted - and two of those were Canada cruises. This was one.

2010 was Hurricane Earl (not this year's version). The storm formed on August 22 and eventually became a Category 4 hurricane. As we waited for our cruise, we saw the storm's track forecasted to skirt the U.S. East Coast and head right up the Bay of Fundy over the weekend - right where we were supposed to sail. I was prepared for the cruise to nowhere, but when we arrived for boarding we learned that the plan was to sail ahead of the storm and port in Saint John before the storm hit. When we reached Saint John, they doubled the docking lines and stationed two tugs on the ship's port side to keep her in place - Atlantic Hemlock was one of the tugs. The ship stayed put.

Needless to say, we stayed on this ship!

Random fun fact.  They call Dartmouth (the city on the other side of the harbour) the Darkside.
The name comes from sailors who would visit the harbour back when there wasn't electricity everywhere.  Halifax had electricity first, Dartmouth didn't - so it was the dark side of the harbour.

I believe so, but we're not up that late. Can one of you night owls chime in? 😊

Caesar salad, but they don't broadcast that it's available.  You have to ask for it.  I don't know what other possibilities there may be because if I'm in that line I'm usually CRAVING pizza.

Jeff - Another GREAT Review from you and Patti...

While now living in Victoria on Vancouver Island since 1987 I grew up in Dartmouth; just across the harbour from Halifax so am looking forward to more of Patti's Pics from your Tour of Halifax.

Thanks! Glad to have you back on board with us again. Some tour pictures going up shortly! :classic_cool:

There are 121 victims of the Titanic buried here. These are some of the graves. In case you didn’t know. The number at the bottom of the head stone was the order that the bodies were recovered from the ocean…..

No, this is not the grave of Jack Dawson of the Titanic movie fame. This gentleman actually shoveled coal on the Titanic…..

Some of the families purchased more elaborate head stones for their loved ones….

For me, this was the saddest story. The 4th body pulled from the water was that of a very young child. For over 100 years the identity of the body was unknown until a DNA test confirmed the identity……

On a side note, they attempted to get the DNA from all the unidentified victims, but except for a few, viable DNA was unable to be obtained. Here is one such person. Really sad…..

Here is the grave of one of Titanic’s musicians…..

@Jamman54if you need another "husband day care" in Saint John, we really enjoy O'Leary's.

I'm surprised we never heard of the Mont-Blanc explosion before visiting Halifax.

Did you get chills or anything considering you're cruising and visiting Titanic graves?  I ask because over the course of the nine years I've been cruising, "Titanic" came up in conversation a handful of times and just one time did I feel creepy about it.  I still wonder why "just that time", like maybe a relative of a survivor or victim was on the ship with me?

Thanks for the tip! There's nothing wrong with having multiple Husband Daycares at a port. There are quite a few ports where that is the case!

We first found out about the explosion many, many years ago when we visited the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. :classic_cool:

No, not really chills or creepiness, or anything like that. When visiting the Titanic grave site, I felt a sadness, thinking of the people literally below my feet. The only other time I felt anything like that was at a Titanic Exhibition in Orlando. They had an actual 20' section of the hull, and when I reached out and touched it, though you weren't supposed too, I was deeply moved. :classic_cool:
