Steelers36 did the math and showed for that set of circumstances if each person would spend more than $33/day on beverages in the package, the Plus package is worth getting.

So, 3 drinks and you're slightly ahead, more drinks and you're easily ahead.   And the sea days it's worth it and port days it's not holds no water whatsoever.   On a port day you're still back on board by 5 and even if you go to bed early at 10, that gives you 5 hours to consume 3 alcoholic drinks.   You could have 2 glasses of wine with dinner and a Bailey's with your coffee if you even just wish to drink at dinner.

The old rate for Plus was $40/person/day.... When Premier was introduced, the Plus package was increased to $50/person/day   (U.S.dollars)

I think the point was $40 = easy decision. $50 = let me think about that. I agree that $50 pushed it over the grunt level. Specifically, it is 2*$50 and so when I factor in DW limited consumption, 2*$50 makes me think. Would be interesting to look back and see how many drinks we had, but that info is not available post cruise.

40 was a slam dunk, 50 almost as much.  After factoring out the gratuities, you have about 70 left over.   If wifi, coffee and soda were considered gravy, then all you need to do to break even was consume 6 alcoholic drinks per day.  If DW had 2 and DH had 4, you're good to go and the aforementioned wifi, coffee, soda and any additional alcoholic beverages would all be considered gravy.

We are not elite, or casino or any other extra special Princess category (plain old gold and don't gamble and balcony cabin). Our next Princess cruise is Panama Canal 16 days. With 10 sea days Plus is a no brainer especially in light that our 10 day repositioning cruise on RCL in April and what we paid for equivalent packages on RCL (they don't bundle very efficiently) we are paying the same for 16 days on Princess that we paid for 10 days on RCL. YMMV

We had the plus package on 2 of our last 3 cruises.  They were priced at $40 each and at that price, we broke even or close to it.  It was very nice to have, not thinking about the cost of the beverage, just ordering what we felt like.  We really enjoyed it.

However, at $50 each it is not the same value for us.  I may break even but my DW will only have several cokes and doesn't come close.

On our 12 days cruise earlier this month, we did NOT have the package.  While it would have been nice to have a drink occasionally, we did just fine with the complimentary drinks and tap water.  It is interesting to note that without the package, we did not purchase a single drink. We brought our soft drinks on board.  So Princess lost revenue due to their price increase.  We booked a new 7 day cruise on board and did not purchase the Plus package as we didn't think we would get our value from it, especially with all the port days.  While I think the package is great, we likely will not purchase it again at the current price.

We have 3 cruises booked for 2023

First two have the plus package included

the third has no plus.  I am going to book and pay in advance before we go

gratuities - $101.50 or 203.00 for both

coffee/soda package at $23.+ each

wifi $5.00 per day one device

so for a total of $284.00 or $40 a day or $20.00 each per day

plus package at $50.00 pp or $100 total per day X 7 = $700.00

spend  $284.00 or $700.00 ???

my math indicates i go with $284.00 and not drink any alcohol - which we don't do at home anyway

Yeah, we just booked out next cruise without Plus.  We rarely drink, and only on cruises, and I looked at the pricing and for a 7 day cruise the plus added $350 to the price each or $700 total.  Gratuities, soda package and wifi will come to ($203+$140+140) = $483.

If you do not drink plus is not worth it.

Basically, I agree with you, and DW 2 DH 4 is about right. However, on 12-day cruise with just two sea days DW will often have just a glass of wine and DW will have 2 beers and a glass of wine. At $40 it was close enough, with a reasonable amount of OBC $50 might be a stretch.

I think your math does not compute.  Where did you get 284?  After factoring out the 203 for grats, that leaves you 81 for coffee/soda package and wifi?  Does not add up.

Using the 100 per day for plus, after pulling out the tips, it's 70 per day.  If you're paying 46 per day for coffee/soda package, that leaves you with 24 per day.  If you get WiFi for 5, which seems low, that's 19 per day for alcohol for two people.  So you're saving 19 a day to be a teetotaler or spend it to have whatever the two of you want, like some Bailey's in your coffee.  Just want to be sure your math is correct.

Two additional things to consider:

1) If you use a discounted TA which saves you 10% then the $50 per day becomes $45.

2). Did you ever want to try a drink but didn’t want to pay the $10 because you might not like it, well you can now take the chance cause it will cost you nothing to try.

This is one of the best reasons for pushing one over the edge into buying the package. There are lots of specialty drinks etc that cheap people like me would not order to try otherwise. The other reason is that the wine pours are so small that you need to keep them coming to have any effect.

Back in the Beverage Package days we cruised with another couple and three of us like a drink or two, or three DW is 'one glass of wine with dinner'. Even then we would add the package for DW just for convenience, not having to explain that three of us had the package and DW did not. DW would often try a fancy cocktail before dinner where previously, she would not spend the $10 if she was not sure she would like it.

You are correct.  I was using the coffee/soda at 23.99 a day for the whole week.  We normally order a case of 12 bottles of water for $7.08 and make lemonade or gatorade from powder mix.  I drink the free coffee from IC and hubby gets the Americana at $2.75 per day

So we come out of pocket the gratuities, the case of water and what ever coffee my husband gets daily.
