Is there a library on the Prima?

Just off the Prima today. No official library or book swap. There were a few books left by other passengers in the cupboards where the games are in on the Observation lounge deck 17.  I was lucky enough to find one but there aren’t many at all.I hope future CC cruisers will start a swap. There is an app advertised that you can download books to your kindle or phone. It was listed at the beginning of the cruise but I missed it. I would rather read an actual book while lounging in the sun anyway.

I wouldn't rely upon finding a book left behind by someone that would interest me.  I would much rather spend some time prior to the cruise downloading some content to my kindle that I know I would enjoy.  I can easily flow through 3 or more books in a seven day cruise.

Unfortunately no library.  A few scattered books around the observation lounge that seem more for decoration than actual use.

Sorry to hear that, but thanks for answering my question.

I was just skimming through the NCL App as I'll be on the Prima in 3 weeks and found that they have a digital library.  If you download the Libby app you will have access to tons of books and magazines.  On Embarkation day login with your lattitudes number and you'll be able to download one book and place a hold on an additional book.  You can use your phone, tablet or e-reader.  You have access for 7 days or the duration of your cruise.

I have the Libby app and I use it in conjunction with my library card, I get access to free audiobooks as well but have access for 3 weeks. It works with the kindle app.

  • 1 year later...

We were on the Prima in January 2024.

There was one cupboard that I noticed in the Observation Lounge with books that appeared to be left by passengers.

If I have current/popular titles at home in good shape that I already read, I often throw a couple in my suitcase to put in  the library of a ship I'm sailing.

Yes, I left a couple of books in that cabinet in the Observation Lounge too!  It also had the daily Sudokus and Crossword puzzles usually found in the libraries on other ships.

OP here, yes I saw that also, but with an extremely small number of books.

As recent as this May, the digital online library via Prima's Libby was down, broken & offline, not usable. Annoying as we're on her TA with many sea days and I've mentioned it, not sure if anyone else tried it lately. Looks great & nice, maybe the new IT outsourced team 🫢 can fixed it 😉   Thankfully, Fire Tablet & e-Kindle app worked offline w preloaded content.

Viva should be - I stand corrected otherwise - using the Libby app in lieu of a library with limited open hours & collections, a virtual 24/7 library that #couch #cough should be simple to manage remotely & kept online, taking minimal bandwidth to access content (if not stored in an onboard server drive folder/partition.

Never been in a library on any of my cruises that had a lot of reading material.  Mostly, the libraries were small (as in not nearly what you'd find in your local communities) and was billed as a combination "library and card room".

So, not a library in the traditional sense.

That said, I know people who will read a book or two while on board and leave their copy in the library...which is always a nice gesture.

. . .  The other think that i miss about not having a library is the atmosphere of a library.  Sometimes you just want a place you know will be quiet

If you're on a ship, such as Bliss, it is a combined library/card room.  It will not be quiet.  Mah-Jongg groups use the room.

I can't go anywhere without something to read.  If you're the same, just bring Kindle or actual books (my preference).  As a steward of my Little Free Library, in my front garden, I'm in the habit of bringing many books on board, just to leave behind.  My spouse uses the LIbby app through our public library and downloads books prior to embarkation.

Curious…it was “not working”?  As in, the doors were locked?
