upgrades

I’ve heard of the calls offering upgrades for a fee, never got one, but finally got an email offer for our next cruise. We booked a super cheap cruise that was interior first floor, couldn’t pass it up, and after final payment got an email offer that moved us to lido for $54. Took it quick!

I hope it's at a quiet spot.

Carnival does have an upgrade offer system, but it's nothing like Royal Up.

In your cruise planner, I found my upgrade offer in the "to do" list as well as in the booking and order page when I was logged into the CCL website and had my cruise pulled up. The offer was there for as long as i didn't decline it, and for me it was an upgrade offer from a cove balcony to a regular balcony.

The biggest difference is that you can't bid- they give you a set price, and not everybody gets the offer.

You can try to upgrade yourself.  On my Horizon cruise I had an L-shaped aft balcony.  Kept checking CCL to see what cabins were available and a Havana aft wrap (right next to the cabin I had booked) opened up, for only $150 more than my cabin had cost.  Called up my pvp, and jumped right on it.  That was during covid restrictions and I had gotten a great casino rate.   Well worth the $150 for the Havana aft wrap.

We usually get an upgrade offer just after final payment date - sometimes we get an email about it and sometimes it is just in our planner.  For our March 5 sailing we got an upgrade offer last week. It was in our planner. The specific cabin was listed. I don't remember the price because I like the cabin I booked and was not interested in an upgrade for this particular cruise.

Upsell offers are common but specific to sailings/cabin type/location

I got an offer to go from a balcony to a suite for $450. I said that's a little more then I wanted to spend and thought that was a set price. The rep put me on hold for a few minutes and then offered $350. I took that offer.

Also, depending on the popularity of the ship or itinerary, the offer may not last long.  Once they put out the offers, the first person to snag the offered cabin number gets it.  No bidding.  Last year, I clicked on an offer to go from balcony to suite only a few hours after the email arrived, and by the time I looked at cabin numbers and cross checked the location on the deck plans, it was too late.

The "upsells" are in your booking manager on the carnival website. I got one recently for an inside room to balcony for like $30-40. I obviously took it.

I also got an offer for one for about $50 on my Europe 12 day cruise to go from a regular balcony to an extended balcony on a higher floor, but I did not take it because we have two adjoining cabins and upgrading would have meant our cabins were no longer adjoining.  My kids will are 8 and 10 (almost 11) so adjoining is preferable...although, actually, what really happens is the younger one sleeps in the room with us and the older one shuts the door, ignores the rest of us, and plays video games.

Connecting cabins are prime for upsells
