Who gets the tips if I don't drink $109 in booze per day?

Exactly this...not sure why everyone is so obsessed with various charges.  You either like the final price and accept it or not.

There are a select few posters who fervently believe their costs would decrease if the cruise line just paid the crew from fare revenues.

We  have a few posters who simply do not like the idea of gratuities. Many believe that if an employer raises pay, they can avoid the cost of gratuities and their costs will be reduced.

Most people have absolutely no problem paying “gratuities”. Some people just don’t like the idea of something being sold as one thing but actually going to something else.

The same goes with “port fees and taxes” which NCL inflates so they can pocket more of your money without you actually thinking NCL is getting it.

Have you thought about finding a cruise line that is more in line with  your desires?

Please stop calling them “tips”. The service charges you pay don’t go directly to staff. They’re used in part to fund “incentive programs” that NCL has for employees.

So to answer your question…the same people that get your money if you were to have 50 drinks per day get it if you have 1 drink per day.

He is talking about the tips on the FAS packages NOT the DSC which, as you say, are not tips.  You are answering a question not asked.

The DSC and beverage package service charges go to the same exact place…a NCL bank account. They don’t end up in the workers pockets as gratuities or tips.

Yet another example of someone spouting opinion a if it were fact.

Did you adjust for time in port when making all of the comparisons?  That would be a lot of work.

and wouldn't the size of the ship itself (not just passenger count) change the port fee?

What is important is whether the crew and the cruise line are satisfied with this system.  Nothing else matters.

I'll piggyback off this and say that any potential passenger who us not satisfied with this system is free to look elsewhere.  I have to say that being dissatisfied with a given policy on a given cruise line has enabled me to discover lots of great cruising options.

Recipe for a snarky thread:

1 - Talk about any or all of the following: tips, gratuities, drink packages, DSC

2 - Challenge someone on the terminology

3 - Say that someone said something about something you said so they think you are saying something about something they said about the thing you were saying.
4 - Repeat.

This is the new "dress code" snarky topic?

This.

Like any of us, if the crew felt they weren't fairly compensated and there was a better package elsewhere, they'd look for alternate working arrangements.
