I cruise pre-covid when no smoking on formal nights.  It was pleasant.

I cruised post covid with total no smoking ban.  It was pleasant.

I cruised post covid with smoking allowed EVERY DAY.  Not pleasant.

I would be ecstatic if the casino was no smoking at all, but would even accept no smoking on formal nights.

How did Princess go from no smoking to all smoking?

Even if smoking was banned or allowed only on certain nights you still have ships where Churchills smoking rooms are basically an extension of the casino door opens smoke pours out

One step at a time.  Let "them" have Churchill's.  Give me a smoke free casino.  Lose the battle, but win the war.

I quit smoking cold turkey in 1991 after smoking for 26 years and if I still smoked my response would be, Princess allows me to smoke in the casino and so I will. If you don't like it your beef is with Princess not me! I also thought it was everyone else who had the problem, I.e. the stench because I smoked. Didn't stink to me. I'm proud to say, I stand corrected.

Congrats on your achievement!  I quit in 1990.  Not easy,  but so worthwhile!

Easiest way to quit is to get lung cancer. Happened to my wife 6 years ago and we both quit in 3 days. She is now cancer free for 5 years

As a former smoker (and avid gambler), it’s definitely not a win-win.  I no longer smoke, and would prefer a smoke free casino, but part of the opposing view is a) smokers enjoy smoking when they’re playing, b) it’s really not convenient to stop, go to the far end of the ship to smoke, and go back… especially when you’re on a good streak, and c) for the casino, business drops significantly when smoking bans are in place.

The last one is probably the key to why it’s not banned.  In cases where bans have have been considered or implemented in casinos on land, overall business takes a significant hit.  Non-smokers don’t suddenly go to the casinos in greater numbers, but smokers do stop going, or limit the amount of time they spend there.  And a high percentage of smokers gamble.

it’s hard to say how much of this is ‘chicken and egg’ - especially percentage of smokers amongst gamblers.  And as the general populace’s number of smokers shrink, it will become more likely that they’ll change to non-smoking.

several casinos in my area had gone all in on accommodating non-smokers.  Larger amounts of dedicated non-smoking areas, separate enclosed rooms, even a whole separate building.  Many of those ‘improvements’ have been rolled back, proving that the economics still don’t favor outright bans.

Well,  I live in Canada and you can’t smoke anywhere except basically on your own property.  It’s been this way for years!   Casinos are busy, as are restaurants, theatres, coffee shops and every single public venue.  I can’t even remember the last time I saw someone light up a cigarette where I live.  And Celebrity cruiseline has banned ALL indoor smoking for years and nobody complains.  Smokers have nice outdoor areas and everyone enjoys the casino together.  It can be done.

I’m an ex-smoker (I was fortunate that I quit before I had to deal with too many health consequences) and my husband has never been a smoker. I think he is more tolerant of it than I am… I found it unpleasant walking through the casino on Sky Princess but it didn’t bother him. I would definitely support smoke-free casinos but maybe with an expansion of Churchills (or the introduction of another smoking venue) that is a closed-door venue so the smoke doesn’t permeate into public areas and affect other people.

I never indicated it couldn’t be done.  Just providing the reasons Princess probably has decided not to (as someone asked earlier).

I’m glad that you don’t see any smokers where you live (I rarely do either).  My guess is that’s also why you don’t hear anyone complain.  I would just suggest we all try to understand the other side of any argument before we decide that our side of the argument is a “win-win”. Majority may rule, but that doesn’t mean the minority opinion doesn’t exist/matter.

Except that the door to Churchills keeps opening and closing. Just walking by the door when it opens feels like I smoked a pack

As a former smoker who quit cold turkey, I'm looking forward to going to the casinos where I can inhale the second hand smoke.

Yes, I know smoking is not good for your but I found it very enjoyable.  The reason I quit was because I got tired of the ever increasing taxes.

I don't understand why there isn't a major venting system to forcefully vent all that smoke outside. Of course I'd hate to be in the path of wherever that venting was done.

While that might be true, our last cruise on the Royal (ending 6 days ago), the nonsmoking area was definitely free of smoke.  I am very sensitive to smoke and it was not a problem for me in the very least.  There just may have been fewer smokers onboard, too??

On the Discovery the smoke wafting out of the Casino had a major impact on areas close to the Casino.  We stopped going to Crooners because the smoke was bad in a large portion  of the venue.

Funny thing is that they said that about restaurants before smoking bans were put into place, then the same thing about bars.  Even with the Casino is states where smoking is banned there business is going just fine.  That excuse has been used repeatedly and has not held up after the bans have been put in place.

Yes, I know smoking is not good for your but I found it very enjoyable.  The reason I quit was because I got tired of the ever increasing taxes.

The tax is what got me to start making my own.  It was a long process finding the correct blend of tobacco and tubes, many experiments. Then it was getting the right pack, with the right machine. I must have gone through 3 machines before I found the one I like best.  I now make my smokes for about $10 per carton.

That said, I cruised several times when covid 'laws' were in effect.  I stopped going to the casino once I used my casino cash.  It was a hassle redressing, catching the elevator, smoking, then reversing the process.  So I stopped going.  I ended one cruise with 22 points, when I normally have 10,000-20,000 points.  I know my paltry donation to the casino is a drop, but there were 32 of us that didn't spend a penny of our own money.

I also didn't get my complimentary steakhouse or spa visit.  But considering how I didn't spend anything in the casino, I covered those costs comfortably.

I'm going to smoke where I'm allowed to.  If they make the casino nonsmoking, I won't frequent the casino, just as I've chosen not to go to Disney.

Study after study indicates that banning smoking does not hurt business.  Airlines are still flying, bars are still full and restaurants are thriving where smoking has been banned.

As the article says it is hard for companies to pretend they are keeping you safe "while at the same time allowing others to blow known carcinogenic chemicals in your face."

Here's the issue.  This is a topic that's been beaten to death.  There's a pinned smoking thread at the top of the page.  You want to discuss?  Discuss it there, but NOPE, you feel the need to keep bringing it up again and again.

I'm going to be the party pooper and report this topic.

I agree with you on that.  The Royal is the only ship where I’ve seen a distinct area that was separated by a wall for the nonsmoking area.  If I remember correctly, and I can not be even 70% sure of this, the area that was formally Club 6 is now partitioned off as both the nonsmoking casino and the Double Down Bar and lounge area.  Not a whiff of smoke there at all.  The casino area there is very small and I do think there is another area in the main casino that doesn’t allow smoking but that area, you can definitely smell smoke from the smoking side as it is not cordoned off like the other nonsmoking area.

In all fairness it is a poll asking for people's choice if they had a choice regarding this issue.  While you are at it you might as well report half the threads on Princess CC that keep getting brought up over and over and over.

Thanks for contributing to keeping the thread alive. Let the CC mod squad decide if and when this thread should be merged or deleted. There's also another smoking thread you need to report. 😂

Not true. If the smokers leave, non-smokers will rush in to fill their seats. Celebrity's long term commitment to non-smoking casinos has seen increased casino revenues. How do you explain that???

It's in the results of the poll. Right there! At the top of the thread. Go look for yourself!
