Would you pick Prima or Breakaway?

Prima from Galveston or Breakaway from New Orleans?  Would drive to Galveston and would need to fly to New Orleans.

With air for New Orleans trip, Breakaway is still about $300 less for the same cabin.

I've been on the Breakaway and loved the cruise, mainly because we don't do the pools which seemed very crowded.  All else was good.

Opinions?  Thanks.

Well done the breakaway never the Prima. If itinerary is the same I would give the Prima a shot. What cabin are you looking at? If Haven I would absolutely try the Prima, done Haven on Breakaway and the Joy and loves both but Prima Haven looks even better

Breakaway and New Orleans any time over Galveston and any ship.  Galveston has a very narrow channel entering the harbor sometimes causing problems either entering or leaving the harbor.  Ships have been known to be held either insidde the harbor or outside of the mouth of the channel especially if there is heavy fog.

We have been on both and will sail on both again.   Our Prima Club Balcony was spacious  and had great storange so better than Breakaway CB.

We love sailing out of New Orleans.  Easy to fly to and stay for a couple of nights.  Galveston is a great place to stay for  couple of nights too, but harder to get there from airport.  Lucky you  if  can drive there!

Prima was like staying at an interesting  boutique hotel.  Great new dining venues.  Loved the food hall and ate several meals there on our eleven day cruise.   Prima also has enclosed  smoking in casino.   Breakaway does not have enclosed  smoking  so you  will notice it on that deck.

On Breakaway  class ships we love the Waterfront area on deck 8 with great bars and seating areas to enjoy  the ocean.  On Prima, in our opinion,  they improved  on that concept.  I suggest you  research for photos and video  of Primas deck 8.

We will be sailing on both ships and from both ports again, but if we went by ship choice  only, it would be Prima for us.

We sailed on both the Prima and Breakaway last year. We have sailed on the Prima 2 times and Breakaway 5ish times.

If things were about equal (fly versus room cost), I would give the Prima a try.

That's kind of a tough decision. I sailed on prima last November. It takes a bit to get used to the layout and there's a bigger outdoor space. Haven't sailed on breakaway yet, but if you're looking for something less crowded then I would go with prima.

We've been on Breakaway twice.

We have Prima booked.

NOLA is nice because we can drive there.

We have to fly to Houston, but we can get direct non-stop flights.

However, boarding in NOLA is terrible.

We won't be returning to NOLA.

After Prima, we'll do Encore from Miami.

We are on the Prima next week going to Bermuda. I anticipate that I will like this cruise more than I did the Breakaway. Breakaway was way too crowed for us...especially the hot tubs and pool. We are not real pool people but I do like to hang out there for the sun and  atmosphere....we could never get a lounge close enough...just too many people all over the place. I didn't hate it but out of all our cruises Breakaway was the least enjoyable for us.

We were on both last fall. Both trips were out  of NY. Our first time on Prima and second time on Breakaway. I like both ships for different reasons. I think Breakaway has a better layout overall, but Prima has a nice observation lounge, plus Indulge Food Hall.

I would choose Prima since you have already been on Breakaway, and I think not having to fly is a big plus.

I’ve sailed on both, but in the Haven. Both are great. I also liked the Prima spa more and the design/decor is outstanding. It was easier to navigate the Breakaway.

We talked to a lady who was disappointed with her Prima Haven room but loved the Haven itself.  She was surprised to hear how spacious our Club Balcony was on Prima.

Yes, navigation was interesting on Prima.  Some places were difficult to find but we enjoyed the search ☺️

We had a regular Haven suite and loved it. The bathroom was spacious and I liked the water closet feature.

New Orleans has the same problem with fog and getting up the Mississippi River.  But we do love cruising the river on the way out during the afternoon.  The lower cost for Breakaway and getting to cruise on the Mississippi may tilt this toward New Orleans even with the more crowded embarcation/disembarc areas.

Still mulling it over.  Thanks.

I am booking The Breakaway or the 3rd week in January.  Plan to add two days to the front of the cruise to play in New Orleans.

I have cruised on both ships and have been to both ports.  I would choose prima any day. The port was not bad at all. We enjoyed staying the night in Galveston. The ship is smaller and less crowded than the getaway. I love that they have deck  8 and more pools.  The service on the prima was much better in the restaurants and at the bars. The observation lounge is very nice on the Prima which the getaway does not have. We loved the food hall.
