A few questions...

It is just less than 3 months until our Canaries cruise on Ventura, 89 days to be precise, not that I’m counting ☺️ I have a few questions that I’m hoping some of you might be able to help with:

  • Does Ventura have a passenger choir on the 2 weeks cruises or is that just for transatlantic cruises with more sea days?

  • We are sailing from Mayflower Cruise Terminal and on the morning will be driving in from Holiday Inn Express M27, junction 7. To get to that terminal do you drive into the docks from dock gate 10 and drive along through the docks, or do you drive further into Southampton and enter the docks closer to the terminal We’ve only ever sailed from Ocean Terminal before. It isn’t clear on google maps.

  • We aren’t Peninsula Club members yet and have a standard balcony cabin so no ‘special lunch’ options, so other than the buffet, what eating options are likely to be available for a late lunch once we’re onboard?

  • I didn’t suffer from any sea sickness at all on our week long cruise on Iona last year, however some of you may remember that I suffered badly from motion sickness for two weeks when I got home. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, do you have any tips to combat it?

  • Lastly a question for @jeanlyon I remember ages ago you said that you took a supplement in the run up to a cruise to help prevent cruise cough and general illnesses, but I can’t remember what it was. If you see this, I’d be grateful if you could let me know please. My sister and I both got cruise coughs on board Iona last year, we both tested and it wasn’t covid, but I’d like to avoid getting a cruise cough this year so no one looks at me as if I might have covid 😷 I'm quite prone to coughs anyway.

Thank you in advance.

I've only seen passenger choirs on longer cruises, but that is not to say that there won't be one.

There is gate nearer to Mayflower terminal than dock gate 10, however dock gate 20 is a good alternative if you are, or can arrange to be, at that end of Southampton, especially if there are several ships in port on that day.

Possibly the Glasshouse

Was it Echinacea…..?

I certainty take that 1 week before and during the cruise to help prevent/shorten colds etc.

Thank you for that.

Iona, Celebrity Silhouette and one other are due to be in that day too so it may be best for us to go further in and use dock gate 20.

Dock Gate 10 is the best one to use for access to Mayflower Terminal it is straightforward where if you ever via Dock Gate 20 it is a lot further in the docks and can be confusing if never done it before

Oh thank you, it could well have been that. I'll jot it down and have a look in the shops.

Thank you. I think I'll have to get both sets of directions handy and see what the traffic is like on the day. The simplest route would be my first choice, I don't fancy starting the holiday stressing over how to get there.

If you are coming in from the Ocean Terminal end, then the best way to Mayflower is most definitely via dock gate 10. Mayflower is much nearer gate 10 than it is to gate 20, so much quicker to use dock gate 10.

Depending on how you enter Southampton it is not that much further and can certainly be quicker if there is a lot of traffic in the city centre.

Also it is easier to get into the terminal as are less using it so you do not get stuck in long queues and because you are approaching from the opposite direction you have right of way at the roundabout.

Not that confusing as Mayflower is well signed all the way through

I had this problem on Iona.  I was fine onboard but really ill with motion sickness on return.  It was so bad I had to take 2 days off work.  I spoke to a pharmacist and he advised me to take Stugeron travel pills.  They cured me so on next cruise I shall have some of these immediatly on return to shore.

Yes, Aurora is nearly always at Mayflower and we always approach through Dock Gate 10.

Britannia 12 night cruise last month with 5 sea days. On each sea day they had:

Noon. Britannia Vocalists. The Live Lounge.
Come and join Britannia’s very own vocal group with members of the Entertainment team. Suitable for all ages and vocal abilities.

Last month we embarked Aurora via gate 10, but disembarked via gate 20. 10 is much more direct.

and it doesn't have any annoying crane tracks to cross where you can wait for ages for the lights to change.

Thanks Jean. Is it Echinacea that you take before a cruise? I remember you saying ages ago that you take something to boost your immune system.

Thank you. So are you planning on waiting until you're on dry land before taking them? It was a horrible sensation, and like you I was pretty ill with it some days.

It wasn't me who took a supplement, so I'm not sure who you are thinking of?  I don't tend to get cruise cough.

Sorry only just seen this after I'd replied. I must have got the wrong person.

I also still wobble for about two weeks after I return. Not too bad to feel ill though. If it's troublesome I would just take a pill. You may notice the motion more on Ventura so make sure you have medication with you.

I shall be taking them with my breakfast on day of return.
