What's the longest you have had to wait for your GTY cabin on Princess?

What was the longest you have had to wait to get assigned your GTY cabin on a Princess cruise?

I'm a little over 5 days out until my curise and I still don't have one assigned. I'm not anxious about it. If the worst happens, I'll be fine. I'm a local who lives an hour from the port and I'm going solo. The only issue I might run into is with Rover and my pet. So, not a massive deal.

But, while I wait, I just wanted to hear other peoples experiences. 😁

Embarkation morning.

I try to print my luggage tags from the Cruise Personalizer and not use the handwritten tags from the port.  The luggage tags showed "To Be Assigned" until I opened up my Cruise Personalizer on embarkation morning and I had to get the front desk of the hotel I was staying at to print them for me.

If Princess is going to bump you off of your sailing, you will be sent a move over offer.  The only time I would worry is if you get a move over notice because if not enough passengers take the bait, then Princess might have to deny you and/or others passage.  You are absolutely guaranteed to be on sailing until you get such a notice.

Did Princess email you once you were assigned a cabin? I'm 16 days out and am growing tired of checking my booking daily for an assignment.

I have done many GTY bookings with Princess and have never gotten a notification from Princess they have finally assigned me my cabin. I have on occasion received an email from my TA notifying me Princess has upgraded me and my cabin assignment waiting for my GTY to be assigned.

The latest I have received a GTY assignment was 3 days before sail date.

I am on same sailing as @Laughingbear and I received my interior GTY cabin last Friday, 8 days before sail date.

Please post when you get your cabin assignment.

Day before sailing.  I checked it every day! 😳

I saw it when I checked on it. Didn’t receive an email.  I had printed the luggage tags and wrote the cabin no on the tags with a magic marker.

I am currently 103 days out from my Canada/NE cruise on the Emerald with an IB guarantee. Am I worried about it? Nope! Unless Princess moves me over, I know I will be onboard. Even if we have no assignment on the day of, we will happily drive up to Brooklyn knowing we get to sail that day! Having said that, I do check the website daily to see if we have a cabin assigned.

But I presume you had not checked the Cruise Personalizer or App the day before?

Always.  Princess sends me a new booking confirmation e-mail using the original booking number.  I book directly with Princess.

The cabin number populates concurrently with your profile in the App.  Once, I was browsing Journey View on the App and accidentally hit Profile and low and behold, there was a cabin number.  I checked my e-mail afterwards and there was the e-mail from Princess.  On the latest version of the App, your cabin number populates atop the QR code generated as your unneeded boarding pass.

When I booked, the only cabins available for my category were guaranteed cabins. I was told I would be guaranteed a cabin, but I just wouldn’t know where. Are you saying that there’s a chance I may be denied boarding?

I appreciate the info! Like I said, I'm not too worried and I know its pretty rare that it would happen. I just wanted to hear some stories while I waited. 😁

I'm waiting until I either get assigned or a couple days out before I print my luggage tags. I don't have a printer at home so I take it USPS to print mine.

Very tiny because if they are truly over-booked, they offer "Move Overs" and they get takers.  Typically, booked cruise is fully refunded and the new cruise is free.

In theory, yes, Princess will cancel your voyage and refund you the money paid.  Does it happen often?  No.

In the event that Princess cancels your reservation outright due to an oversold situation, they will refund your money and you can submit a claim to have the airfare you are out reimbursed to you.  This happened to my parents on a Majestic Princess sailing to Australia in 2018; Princess cancelled their booking around 2 weeks prior to sail date.  At that time Princess was more put together.  Not sure how this would be handled with Princess in today's world.

A move over offer is voluntary and Princess will give you your cruise fare in refundable OBC on a similar cruise booked at a future date.

RCCL had a lot of bad PR regarding the Icon of Seas inaugural sailings due to overbooking.  They were cancelling bookings at the last minute.

A remote chance.  They're much more likely to find enough takers for Move Over offers than to have to involuntarily deny boarding to anyone.

Latest?

At the pier. And yes, I'd checked the cruise personalizer before leaving home, night before and morning of - no cabin assigned by the time we'd left for the pier.

Got our assignment from the gentleman at the table handing out luggage tags and room assignments. Had told the porter we didn't have it yet, they directed us to the table to get assignment - gave last name, found room assignment, gave us blank luggage tags, filled them out, dropped with porter, and went to check-in. Medallion was waiting, and off we went.

We've also had our cabin changed at check-in - as in, what we had upon leaving for the pier, with luggage tags printed and tagged and dropped with porters, was different when we got to pickup for medallion - and cruise card in the past.. all 4 times, it's been due to an unexpected upgrade.  Luggage was delivered to old cabin, steward went and found it for us and brought it up. No hassle at all, and very welcome upgrades...  Very interesting at check-in though, when paperwork shows one cabin, and they're paperwork shows something else..

We once flew to LA without knowing our cabin. Asked the porters at San Pedro so we could check our luggage and found out we weren’t on the manifest (that’s the first time I started feeling anxious). Were taken to a supervisor inside the building, but we weren’t in her manifest either. Someone from Guest Services on the ship was called and that person found us in their “system”. Yes, we had a cabin on the ship,  I don’t know why we didn’t appear on the manifest but it all worked out.

Sounds stupid, but maybe Princess should compile a list of people that would be willing to take move over offers .Don't get me wrong. I love cruising, but it is very rare I book a room for a specific stop or reason. I am retired, so when and where is not important. I would feel really bad if someone was unable to board due to overbooking, and I was not offered a move over. In addition, I usually travel on a casino fare. Would not really cost them anything except airfare refund for them to move me.
