So DONE with MSC!

Just to note, I have never seen a Yacht Club Guarantee category, though that would be interesting.  As far as the willy-nilly juggling of YC cabins (or any, for that matter) it's just maddening.  Now I want to log in to check my booked cruises to see if there are any changes.

There is a huge disconnect between shoreside and shipside. Just check in at the port, do not ask anything of the check-in staff they are port-contracted workers. Just wait until you get to the Yacht Club waiting area and ask a butler you need to rearrange rooms.

When you are escorted onto the ship, ask to go straight to the concierge desk.

As someone posted, they can call the concierge desk to redo your ship cards and wristbands (if you are on a ship with bands) and help move the luggage.

That's probably why I won't ever sail Princess either. I've been on 25 cruises with the following cruise lines and it's never been done to me: Carnival, Oceania, Holland America, Cunard, Celebrity, NCL, RCCL and Regent. Not once have they ever changed my cabin when I booked a specific cabin.

we've been on many cruises with Princess, RCI and NCL, and none of them ever changed our cabin number.

MSC, however, has moved us from a reserved cabin to guaranteed, so I cancelled our cruise with them last time.

First of all, because someone is "eldery" it doesn't mean "incapacitated".

You make it sound like they were exiled to Siberia.

OP knows their relatives a lot better than you do.

My mom is geographically challenged (she gets lost even within the same deck), while my dad is physically challenged. Having them on a different deck away from us would result in a whole bunch of challenges. We had experienced it firsthand on our NCL cruise in 2018 when they put us on different decks and ends of the ship. We cruise to relax - we don't want our cruise to be an obstacle course.

In the first post, OP only said "eldery".  She didn't say that there were issues.

Air tag them...

But seriously, if you were in the NCL Haven (unless it was Haven aft and Haven enclave), different decks should have not been too much of an issue -- they could also get the butler to escort them.  Same with YC, it's 2-3 decks, front of the ship -- now regular rooms, different decks, different parts of the ship, sure...

we are Android people, and we don't travel in Haven/YC/Retreat, etc. 🙂

I simply understand OP's worrying about being on different decks.

I understand the OP but see no reason to worry. All staff will really help them.

And you refer to "move them down" to your deck.  If they were moved up, that's a bonus.  Closer to the concierge desk, closer to the lounge, closer to the dining room...and closer to the pool deck.

You make it sound like they were exiled to Siberia.

You really want to be under the pool deck when they set up at 6am? It's terrible if your a late sleeper.

You're still on the ship.

Be happy.  Breathe.

On the ship ticked off!

  Then everything rattles me.

It's so simple. You pick a room and you keep it.

Would you buy a new white car and accept a diaper green one at pick up?

How?

What we know is that they are old and have mobility issues.

They will defenitely be escorted EVERYWHERE if they need/want.

Problem to get a soda from the minibar? A butler will help them.

Need help to get from sofa to balcony? A butler will help them.

Forgot the glasses when going to the lounge? A butler will get it for them.

There are lots of things they can get help with, as you know.

I have to be honest, their food, even in YC, not so great. I've had better food in all the main dining rooms that I've mentioned above than in the YC.

I agree that not all food is perfect but if you let them know it, you will get something better.

The easiest solution is still to move the elders down to one of the 3 balcony cabins they have on the same deck, a swap of who is where once onboard will be trivial...

A Butler isn't standing in the room. You would have to call them, there is no phone near the sofa, no phone near the balcony. Butlers have multiple cabins assigned so there will be a wait for service at some point. Starts pouring rain while sitting on the balcony, okay wait for the Butler...

I understand everything you say but if you need to rely on a relative for help, won't you have to call them too?

Cell phone/tablet and the MSC App using the Chat feature, don't think the Butler is on the app, I could be wrong or you could ask them.

Butlers usually do not play the role of companion or are required to help with mobility.

The Carrier reserves the right to transfer the Passenger from one cabin to another and may adjust the fare accordingly.

This is the crazy part to me. I've seen them move cabins; but that they can change your fare is crazy. They could move you from a lowest deck inside to YC and then charge ya for it based on this.

At least the UK T&C make clear the adjustment is only downwards:

"14.2 MSC Cruises has the right to assign another cabin for the Passenger, as long as it has similar characteristics. If there is a change in accommodation to a lower-priced cabin, the Passengers affected by such change will be entitled to a refund of the price difference, according to the current rates."

Hopefully the US T&C mean downwards adjustments as well.

Man, you'd HOPE they mean downward adjustments, but it doesn't say that...

AND it also says "may" not "will be entitled to"; big difference there. They could take your balcony, put you in an inside and say "oh well" because they "may" adjust the fare, not "will" do it.

I mean, I'm not surprised. In the US the laws basically let corporations do whatever they want. The UK and most of Europe offers stronger consumer protections.

May not be required but they are very helpfull. To give a helping hand is not a problem for them.

When they are around or even show up.

Late evening they are no where to be found. 24 hour butler service is a joke.

 One butler has many cabins.

This could all have been avoided if they kept the rooms as they were booked. Giving the OP the illusion that it will be ok with the butler's is just wrong.

Back in May on the Splendida, the YC was short two butler's for an 18 night cruise. They were so overwhelmed it seemed never mind having to play personal assistant.
