I think it's the way HAL is accounting for the AARP OBC - kind of like it's on hold/reserve. When it gets applied to a booking, the amount could be different as the actual amount you receive depends on cabin type and length of cruise. The $50 "hold" is the minimum. 1

I have not booked any cruise with HAL yet - tomorrow is the big day....but it took almost 72 hours from the time I received an email that I was verified for it to show up on my future credits and it is only showing $50, which I assume will change when I book a higher level cabin. Watch this space....😀
Djptcp Posted August 6, 2023 #284 Share Posted August 6, 2023 I got mine approved right away easily without having to show an AARP card. However, when I booked a cruise last week through my HAL PVP I was told I couldn't use the AARP benefit on casino offer bookings! I could use it on new bookings only, but not with bookings from casino offers. Bummer.

kapitch Posted August 8, 2023 #288 Share Posted August 8, 2023 Has anyone had luck with getting the AARP OBC added to a cruise booked more than a year ago? The agent I spoke to indicated the OBC could not be added to our cruise since we booked in November of 2021.
Duquesmom Posted August 8, 2023 #289 Share Posted August 8, 2023 I was just turned down for getting the OBC on previously booked cruises. Asked my agent to try again in a week or 2….or whenever she talks to them. Maybe she’ll get one to say yes!

Real NHDOC Posted August 9, 2023 #293 Share Posted August 9, 2023 (edited) Booked four new cruises and was told that the AARP perk is only applicable to one booking per year! It doesn't say anything like that anywhere and I know other people have said they got it on multiple bookings. This is SO typical of HAL. Everything is always dependent on who you ask and nobody has been properly trained. My TA claims she escalated it up the chain but I am going to call now and get to the bottom of it. If it's a once a year benefit then it should say so clearly in the offer. It specifically says "Offer good for new bookings only" not one new booking. "Bookings" is plural and so it should apply to all new bookings...period. Edited August 9, 2023 by Real NHDOC
Real NHDOC Posted August 9, 2023 #294 Share Posted August 9, 2023 After spending the better part of an hour on the phone with HAL the benefit is going to be applied to each booking after all. They insisted that the reason the benefit wasn't applied was because I hadn't been verified (even though I have an email from the end of July saying I had been and they had applied the benefit to one cruise already!). Anyway he took my AARP number down and told me it would be applied to every booking...we shall see! I keep hoping HAL will get their act together but it just seems like every day is their first day doing this stuff. 1

I told the HAL rep that I knew that wasn't the case so she checked with a supervisor, came back on the phone and said that I was right, no limit. Was then applied to all 6 of our previously booked cruises going into 2025. 1

This kind of stuff frustrates me to no end, I am glad for you but many of us have called numerous times to be told NO, it has to be for new bookings only. I tried again yesterday. Granted I can see them saying no to my cruise in less than 4 weeks but I have one for December and March of 2025. December was booked in March and March was booked in May. They would not budge. I then go on to explain others are getting it to be told they need reservation number to verify others are getting it to pre-existing cruises that were booked. All of these are Neptune Suites full fare with Have It All and they will not budge.
Rare Haljo1935 Posted August 10, 2023 #299 Share Posted August 10, 2023 The verbiage says "can book a HAL cruise.. to receive OBC" suggesting it's for new cruises. Also says it's combinable w/other OBC (so it can be stacked). This says "select cruises." I hadn't seen that before, but suspect it may be why some people get denied. I believe their intent was to get new bookings and they were not prepared for the number of requests on current bookings. Certainly could be worded more clearly and could have been executed more consistently. But I will accept anything they give me as it's OBC I didn't have before and is far more than the $12 or $16 (or whatever the amount) AARP membership fee, so it's a great value.
