If I'm having a drink at the bar and working on a picture, how is that different from someone else sitting at the bar with a drink and having a conversation with someone for the same amount of time? (I do agree that the kids in question didn't need to be sitting at the bar. But I guess the attitude of a person can only sit there if they are drinking alcohol just pushed me to respond.)

Keksie Posted October 14, 2023 #282 Share Posted October 14, 2023 All these breaks are amazing. I don't think we even got one day off for Columbus Day. We just went to school and studied Chris and all the other explorers. No Fall Break, maybe a little time off around Easter, Thanksgiving long weekend and a week at Christmas. School started after Labor Day and was finished before June.

There seems to be a ‘type’ of person on CC who consider kids to be second class. It seems they also consider bars places where you must drink alcohol. If they see an adult sitting at the bar ordering an orange juice they’re going to ask them to sit elsewhere.

Minors don’t have the same rights as adults. They can’t go to a bar without a parent or guardian. Minors are treated as a different class. In the US, states have different laws. In some states minors are not allowed at the bar or in the bar area. In other states it is up to the owner of the establishment but they can’t serve alcohol to minors. 1

Do you have an issue with "second class" kids not being allowed in the Solarium? What would be your thoughts about going to the Schooner Bar and finding that a group of kids decided to make that their hangout for the night and your options are either stand or leave? Any thoughts about having a kids club on the ship where you are not allowed to go? 5

All states have legal requirements and they’re pretty similar.

If so, then Royal should not let the kids hang out. If not, that's an "apples and oranges" comparison. If someone claimed "Adults shouldn't use the Flow Rider, they're taking up space the kids can use", the pitchforks would come out. Adults can use the Flow Rider just like kids are allowed to use bar stools/tables.

I'm sure the bartenders would live it too.🙄 1

Whether it's at a table or sitting at a bar stool. Just like adults are allowed on the Flow Rider.

I didn't say kids were not allowed. My question to a previous poster was how do they feel about those second class kids not being allowed in the Solarium. I was not making any "apples and oranges" comparisons or any other comparisons for that matter.

Lots of RC family entertainment takes places in bars and lounges. If seats at the bar are free then I’m don’t care if kids sit there. I would sit there with my kids because there is planned entertainment geared for them in that venue. Maybe look at the cruise compass in more detail and see the family entertainment that takes place; the times it takes place and where it happens.

Children have no business sitting AT the bar, and I have no problem asking the “parents” to remove them.

I think they follow the law of the country the cruise departs from. For instance in USA they can only drink alcohol from 21 years, in Europe its 18 years On my last cruise the napkin folding demo was held in the schooner bar and two children aged around 10 did a great demonstration of folding a napkin into a ship after the crew member had finished. I was very impressed with a) their skill and b) their confidence Edited October 15, 2023 by sgmn
