Oooo sorry!  I hope YOUR dog is better now!  We bought insurance as usual, but this policy did not offer a cancel for any reason clause.  We have cruised at least 85 times and have never had this happen….we have also been very fortunate.

We have two dogs and the second one has not developed a cough or sneeze yet.    We are proceeding as if we will be able to go, we’ll see.

We are not comfortable with a pet sitter.  We just don’t know anyone well enough to leave them in our home with our babies and all of our stuff/info when we leave the country.

thank you for sharing!

How is your doggie feeling today?  Fingers crossed that their feeling better.

When we vacation, we actually have a friend/family house sit for our at our home, and pay them to stay in our place.  Normally works best for the unattached 18-25 year old crowd. At least this was our experience.  If this is an option, it would solve your problem.

I would see if either you can just transfer your booking to a sailing in the future (I think it's around $100 or so) or if not, see if you can do a name change and have a friend, family member, or even sell your reservation to someone else via the name change. There's a website called TrasnferTravel where you can list your vacation for sale assuming you can do the name change.

I have heard of this new virus for dogs but not familiar with the treatment.    Does he need daily meds (antibiotics)?

Just as an FYI- antibiotics do not treat viruses. Unnecessary use of antibiotics make the problems we have with bacterial resistance to antibiotics worse, and there are fewer and fewer effective antibiotics out there due to overuse. Antibiotics are used for bacterial infections.

OP- I hope your dog is better.

Yes, I agree antibiotics are over used by many.

I don't have a dog.  I was simply asking how they are treating this new virus.

I hope your dog is feeling better everyday.

Pretty sure you can only transfer the cruise before final payment.   OP is booked to cruise next weekend.

That only applies before final payment. After final payment regular cancellation penalties apply znd within 30 days of sailing you are in the 100% penalty phase.

One person's name must remain on the booking do only one name could be changed.

I have done rebooking once after final payment. And it was 14 days before sailing.

During Covid, yes.  Not under current rules.

We were not able to go two months ago and I asked rebooking on sailing day and I got answer:

Unfortunately, this is not possible because the sail date is today

So I read out from this, that it still can be done, but not on date of sailing. Or there are different rules in US and Europe?

I have no idea what the rules are in Europe but it definitely cannot be done for North American bookings.  The ability to move or cancel after final payment ended in late 2022 (Sept 30 if I recall correctly).

After final payment you are in one of several penalty phases based on how many days from sailing you are.

I would not read anything from that statement.  That close to sailing nothing at all can be done.  The reps do not even have the ability to cancel it at that point and guests that are cancelling then are just treated as a no show.

Why don’t you hire a dog sitter that either stays at your house or comes over 3-4 times a day.  That way your dog is separated and you go on the cruise. Much cheaper than losing the cruise.  Just look for pet sitters.

It's not cheaper.

Cruise is a sunk cost.  Go or not go, same cost.  Hiring a sitter is more money.  Now value wise...different story.  But folks need to understand, the cruise is spent either way.  Actually, they cancel and will get some refund (taxes etc).

OP and others, sorry to hear your pets are sick.  Sorry for the situation.  Hope it works out best it can.

We are booked on a long-awaited cruise next Sunday.  Sadly one of our dogs is coughing - which is a big problem now with the threat of this new mysterious dog flu and we may not be able to board here anywhere.  We booked thru a travel agent. Are we just looking at a complete loss of our cruise fare?  Any experience with this or advice will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I hope your dog is better.

If not, which ship and how many passengers on the booking?  Is it a casino booking or a normal booking?

We are still having a random doggie cough, but not much. It is possible that the 2nd dog coughed today!  Ugh. Overall it is still a possibility that we can go if these two super healthy knuckleheads will stop with the random coughs!

We booked thru an agent and it is apparently part of a group booking. It is very hard to contact the agent and only thru email. Never again.  Talking to RCCL loyalty desk and group bookings….there may have been some possibility of a resolution if we booked directly with RCCL.  We’ll never know.

I hope both of them are over this quickly so you are able to cruise.

We are on the Wonder and only impacts two of us.  Not a casino booking but part of a group booked by an agent. We don’t know anyone else booked.

I hope your dogs recover and you can go on long awaited cruise.  DH and I are on Wonder this week. If you just cannot go, one of us would be interested in staying on next week, even short notice. If one of your names stays on the reservation, the other name can change.
