We are searching for a way to safely park our car for a Brilliance cruise in January.  We usually stay overnight in Biloxi and then park at the port, but I am getting nervous about secure parking.  We are Diamond with Hilton, so a free room night is easy for us.  Don't know about timely shuttles though.  I sometimes have a gimpy knee so hauling luggage and walking is iffy.  Looking forward to your input.

I second what St. Greg said. Fulton is secure and provides excellent shuttle service.

We found out about Fulton by following St. Greg's reviews, so thanks St. Greg.

Haven't read this whole thread but we really enjoyed the Pontchartrain hotel in the Garden district. Not far from Commanders Palace and right on St Charles Ave streetcar route. Unique rooms with very comfortable beds

Absolutely. Cooper Manning is part owner there. The bayou bar on the first floor is where the Saints franchise was christened on all-Saints day in 1966. It’s usually out of my price range but that doesn’t stop me from frequenting their Hot Tin bar.

@Saint Greg have you traveled to Japan?  I'm planning a land trip for my family this July.

@IntrepidFromDC when are you traveling to the Far East?

I had a "Jones Fracture" in February and had to choose between canceling the Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia trip or the cruise.  I asked my doctor and he said "which one will you be doing more walking/hobbling?"

Right now it looks like Italy in July, when the Cinque Terre blue trails open back up from repair.  Then south Asia next late winter.

Hope to hear about Japan!

Sorry about your “Jones Fracture”. Are you cruising the same itinerary in Italy? I’ll try to figure out a way to post Japan!

The normal lot for that is the whale lot which is a wide open surface lot right by the river walk mall. I would recommend Fulton Parking Garage instead. Security is going to be better and they have a free shuttle to/from the port. The absolute cheapest cruise parking is their rooftop parking. But indoor isn’t that much more. Make sure you switch the drop down from hotel to cruise parking and you’ll see the indoor and rooftop options.

https://www.neworleansparking.com

What you may want to consider is booking Hilton Garden inn as well. Book one day of hotel parking for that. Then book your cruise parking. HGI is right by Fulton. Park, walk across the street to your hotel, Then walk back across the street the next morning to take your shuttle to the port.

Thanks for the valuable info.  If we did spend the night in Biloxi and head over in the morning, can we drop our luggage at the ship (Brilliance) and then proceed to the Fulton Garage?  I know this is a Carnival thread, but this will be the first time we sail with Royal out of NOLA and I can't get a good feel for where everything is.  Also, when have we cruised with Carnival in the past, we just parked at the port.  Is port parking for Carnival not a good option anymore? Thanks so much for your help!

Port Parking for carnival is good. You said brilliance. They don’t use the Carnival garage. They use this open whale lot which is less good. I would think you could drop your bags off. But I don’t know what the traffic flow is like at Julia Street terminal. I don’t know how they turn around. That may be a question for someone who uses Julia street.

Fulton likes you to drop your bags downstairs before you park anyway. You could even drop them right where the shuttle parks and just have one person stand with them while the other parks. They have people to load and unload luggage. They load the shuttles along this left side (facing the river) of the building. Then you should be able to make a right and enter the garage.

Several years ago a local told us to walk on the opposite side of the street from where cars are parked at night. We never feel unsafe there either, but we've taken that advice to heart.

Our absolute favorite place to stay is Bourbon Orleans. They have some unique rooms and we love the attached Bourbon O bar. Twice we've lucked into staying in the Governor's Suite (now called DeLille Suite). The pictures on their website don't do it justice. The bathroom in that suite is bigger than most of our cruise ship cabins have been. 😂 The hotel is located on the corner of Bourbon & Orleans and we don't hang out on Bourbon at all. We usually walk along Royal Street instead of Bourbon to avoid all that mess.

I came to recommend the Bourbon Orleans as well. We've stayed there a few times and love it.

If you were parking in the Whale Lot, there are porters there to take your luggage inside the lot. They have dedicated spots for cruise passengers. If you park at Fulton and want to drop before parking, you enter through Mardi Gras world side like you're going to Carnival but you pass that and there will be porters by the Royal terminal usually under the "Tunnel"(not a real tunnel just a Covered area.) Then you would turn left out the port towards the convention center and turn left again and get in the right lane and Fulton Garage is a block or so up on the right. Can't miss it. TBH it's easier just to park at Fulton and take your bags on the Shuttle to save from sitting in traffic.

4 of us stayed at the Homewood Suites New Orleans French Quarter in October. https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/msyfrhw-homewood-suites-new-orleans-french-quarter/

We really enjoyed the hotel. Rooms were spacious, clean, it was easily walkable to all the nightlife on Bourbon street. There's also a gas station just down from the hotel for any snacks/drinks you may need (but if I remember correctly they do close fairly early so just be forewarned). They also offer free hot breakfast and the breakfast was actually pretty good. Lots of options. Getting an Uber to the port was easy peasy and was a quick trip.

These trips will be no cruising.  Training around Italy, flying around Asia.  Excited about both but lots going on at home right now so I'm not as focused on planning as I'd like to be.  If you do a LIVE on TripAdvisor while in Japan I'll be sure to follow!

Stayed at the Courtyard on Iberville for a Conference in October and it was fantastic.  Not too far of a walk to the Port area but definitely an easy taxi/uber ride.  Rooms were recently redone and the staff were all beyond super friendly and helpful.  Highlight recommend.

We're currently booked at the Cambria Hotel for a pre-cruise overnight in mid-May. Neither of us has ever been to NOLA before, but the hotel seems to have solid reviews online.

We stayed at the Cambria the one and only time we sailed out of NOLA, and loved it.  Great location and the staff were so nice and helpful (recommended places to eat, see, etc).  We walked everywhere (to the mall, to dinner, to the Casino (I think it was Harrahs?), to the fire station where we bought shirts for the firefighters in our life🙂), and then the next morning we walked to the port.  I would definitely stay there again.

@Saint Greg I am on a B2B on the Valor in a year and am looking for either a Park and cruise pacage, or get a hotel an hour or so from NOLA and park at Fulton. The only park and cruise is a Confort Inn accross the river for 269, but the last time I was there I found bugs on my pillow. What is your thoughts.

I’m going to be updating my New Orleans Parking page in the next week which includes park n cruise hotels so I may have a better answer for you then. Without digging any deeper It looks like these are some from my current list that still have packages. Some limit you to 7 or 8 days of parking so not all of them will work for a b2b.

My personal preference is either staying at one of the hotels around Fulton and parking at Fulton or staying out of town and driving in to Fulton. I don’t know where you are coming from but I come from the west so south Baton Rouge works good for me.

If I were coming from the north probably Covington…and I’d be making a trip to the Abita brewery/tasting room.

You definitely want to check out this: New Orleans Hotel Guide: Hilton Riverside

Yeah I'm over there all the time during football season. Early morning before the sun even comes up. I never feel unsafe. The riverwalk. Waldenberg Park. A lot of early morning joggers around there. What I tell people is at night walk on the heavily populated streets as much as possible. I have stayed many time So Poydras, Canal St., St. Charles Ave., etc.

I have stayed many times at the Riverside for both business and pleasure travel. It is always a good option but there are many others too.

Covington Brewhouse never reopened, did it? I loved their Strawberry Ale.

Covington no. Abita...which is also in Covington...yes. Abita also does the strawberry. In fact you can get it on the ships that have Emeril's.

Have you had both? I was thinking I didn't like Abita strawberry as much but now I'm wondering if it was a different Abita beer I had. It kind of reminded me of cream soda. If that's not it, I will definitely try it again on Mardi Gras!

I'm not a big fruity beer drinker. I have had both but not enough to tell the difference.

We've really enjoyed our pre-cruise stays at the Drury Plaza Suites on Poydras. It has a streetcar stop at the corner, offers a hot, full-cooked breakfast and their famous 5:30 Kickback (heavy appetizers and beverages). There is a nice pool area on the roof and the building has been sympathetically renovated. Beautiful.

Looking for something more romantic?  Niche boutique hotel, the Bienville House is right at the French Quarter. Beautiful little balconies overlooking the indoor/outdoor pool area. That was some years ago.

My wife and I were on a journeys cruise on Glory this past December out of New Orleans.   We stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites New Orleans Convention Center, 1201 Convention Center Blvd., New Orleans, LA (1-888-861-8331).

They have a Park and Cruise package and the parking is in a covered garage attached to the hotel. Don't remember the fee but it is discounted from the normal fee and is less expensive than port parking.  Also, there is no limit on the length of stay.  When you get to the hotel you just need to tell the concierge you have the park and cruise package.  There is a free shuttle to and from the port. You need to sign up at the front desk for the shuttle when you check in.  We wound up taking a taxi back from the port, at the end of the cruise, because debarkation was such a mess and didn't want to wait for the shuttle. We enjoyed the hotel. Got an upgrade to a suite because our room wasn't ready, even though I was about 4 hours early.
