Has anyone received a move over offer recently?

I had read a couple of months ago that offers were going out prior to Sun Princess cruises. If you received an offer, how many days prior to embarkation?

I haven't seen a move over offer since pre pandemic, but then, I'm not booked on the Sun.

I believe our most recent offer was about 7 months ago and we got it about a week before embarkation.

did your move over cruise ( that you moved over from ) include either PLUS or Premier in the cruise fare?   Was the fare included as refundable OBC as part of the move over offer?  did the new cruise and cabin you selected include the PLUS or Premier package that you had on the first cruise that you moved over from?

JuJu...  I am not sure where you might have read/heard that...  But I do not know of any right now.  The first sailing for FLL is VERY heavily sold for all categories MiniSuite down...

Yes, many of not most of the over-priced 'SANCTUARY CLASS' staterooms are the ones showing available.

 

I would foresee a lot of upgrades and bidding for upgrade before any move-over offers.

Yes, we’ve never turned down a move over offer, even though they used to be more generous with what they offer but it’s still the best deal on earth.  
 

The move over offer does give you all the perks and cabin type from your original cruise.  We did have the plus on each cruise which we’ve accepted the move over and they transferred it over and to our replacement cruise as well.  They now offer you a set of replacement cruises from which to pick that is similar to the one you give up.  We got a choice of any 10 day Mexico cruise for the 10 day Mexico cruise we gave back.  
Then, we got all our original cruise fare back as refundable OBC while on the replacement cruise .. so, basically, a free cruise.  If you have flights (our was out of our home port so not needed), they will pay a certain amount in change fees for you, as well.  Your insurance, if you bought it through Princess, follows you onto your new cruise, as well.  
 

Just of note, we have noticed a lot of the first offers go to those without one the packages, those in inside cabins and those that booked on a deeply discounted sailing, like when they had solo fares.  After all, they are looking to give away the least amount of money.  
If enough in these levels don’t bite, they move up to the next level, maybe those with an oceanview or balcony without the plus or premier packages. Still no bites?  You get the idea .. lately, you’re lucky to get back to them in time to snag the offer.  
We are booked on an Alaska cruise for July and it’s completely sold out.  I will be watching my email carefully the two weeks leading up that sailing.  I will go any time of year!

thanks for the detailed report.  We've got the little 5 day "inaugural" for now on the SUN out of PE/FLL.  Cat DA, (deluxe balcony) mid-ship, cabins above and below, Premier package.  Any comparable would almost have to be a 7 day, unless waiting a full year for the STAR P.

 

We booked when it first came out, our fare is rock bottom compared to the GTY's offered now for the same Category.  

 

I monitor my emails continuously it seems, so we'll jump on if offered, and we're currently also pretty flexible about dates...

I got a move over offer earlier this month, two days before embarkation.

 

Amusingly, I had just gotten an e-mail about an upgrade acceptance (OE to BE) for that same cruise. I was grumbling a bit because instead of automatically charging my previously given card, as they've done before, the e-mail insisted that I had to take proactive steps to make payment and threatened to drop the upgrade if I didn't get it done that day. This was a bit difficult as I was traveling that day with limited time and poor connectivity on a bouncing van going to the airport at Cancun.

 

Ten minutes after I finally was able to type in my payment information, I got the next e-mail with the move over offer, applied fortunately to the now more expensive cabin. I don't know if I would have gotten the offer for the original cabin (discounted pretty heavily and I was traveling alone with no solo supplement and without any packages, Cruise Raider) or if it came through only because I had accepted the upgrade. Nor do I know if I would've gotten the move over offer if I had bid even more for a yet higher category cabin.

 

The deal itself is hard to beat. All my OBC (and there was lots, enough to cover gratuities and wifi with a bonus left over) transferred over to the new booking and the entire fare was added as well. They even converted my modest date restricted casino free play to OBC. The majority is refundable, but I'm not too trusting with that these days and will, as is my recent habit, structure my on board activities to end up with a $1 to $10 bill at the end of the cruise. I managed to cancel the flights with my normal airline and my other transfer costs without losing anything. The only thing I was out of pocket on was a two figure nonrefundable hotel fee for the night before. I've applied for that to be paid back by Princess as part of the move over offer, but haven't heard back yet. (Lesson learned - don't book Hotwire/Priceline non-refundables until you're at the airport)

 

Continuing on with the head scratching lunacy, once the new cruise was in place, I checked the 

EZAir flights and found it was offering a $500 off fare sale for the new cruise. (???) After plugging in my open jaw 4500 mile total flights on my preferred carrier, the post sale price was... $0. This might answer the periodic questions about the benefits of checking with Princess EZAir.

We are on the second Sun sailing and the 3rd for a back to back. I would love a move over offer. we do have the plus package but we are in an interior cabin on the ninth floor. Cruises in October so I wonder when they would start offering move overs I will definitely say yes.

Our Sun booking is for two weeks commencing 10 August. 

All we've had from Princess is the upgrade offer from our Deluxe Balcony, but we are staying put!

Our first experience with a move over was back in January 2020.  We had a 5 night in a premium oceanview and they said we could have a balcony cabin on any 7 night cruise we wanted.  So, of course, we moved it to Alaska later that same year but that wasn’t to be.  I almost kicked myself for giving up what may have been our last cruise ever.  
But … never fear, we were able to switch it and go on the first cruise back out after the restart on the Majestic.  What a majestic cruise it turned out to be.  I had just recently had knee surgery so it was still not able to do the stairs but we had the most amazing time ever!  Plus, we got to book a premier deluxe balcony aft facing .. happy, happy!  
 

Our third and last move over was for the 10 day Mexico cruise, which we were able to exchange for a very special 10 night Mexico cruise.  I still can’t believe we got it!

I received a move down offer (from balcony to inside), the day before my Caribbean, Feb 2024 cruise. I had balcony with Plus. Cruise fare would be applied as OBC onboard, if not used up a cheque would be send.   I did not have WiFi until I got to my FLL hotel.  By the time, I send the email back, someone else had replied.

In the past - the move over offers went to the type of category that was over booked. For example - if they sold more balcony cabins than balcony cabins possible. I remember getting a move over offer when I had a balcony and we called and asked if my friends in an inside could also get one (as I wouldn't move with out them also). Their response was no, they are not over sold in the insides.

 

Or downgrades happen - too many people in balconies but they have a ton of inside or outside cabins available.

 

I don't think they would just start with insides (unless insides are over sold). If they are over sold in balcony and mini suites - offering move over offers to insides doesn't help. This only works then if they do downgrades so they have to offer 2 offers (moving someone to another sailing and then reimbursing someone to downgrade). This would be more expensive IMO (moving 2 cabins not just one).

The last move over offer we received was last summer. We had a low price on both our cabins, and suspect those are the guests they target first, as they pay the least amount for them to move over. I believe it was just a few days before embarkation.

Princess must have been desperate when we received a move over offer maybe a week before the Apr 27, 2024 Med sailing of the Sun Princess. We moved to the Aug 10 Sun Princess sailing. Everything was moved (Princess Plus, OBC), EZ Air flights were rebooked by Princess to the new sailing date. They added $440 to OBC (as Customer Good Will) plus the cost of the original cruise as refundable OBC. Princess also moved us from a Penthouse Suite to an Owners Suite.

 

Princess also would have made it a 21 day cruise but availability was in 2025.

 

Bonus: Moving our Rome hotel reservation from Apr to August saved us $261. 
 

We are happy cruisers!
