Cruise in a two person room with an infant as the third.

Recommended Posts

Looking at a last minute free interior room, but carnival will only allow two people in the room. Has anyone been able to book a two person room with an eight month old as a third? I’m fine with the extra cost, it’s just that they don’t have a 3/4 person room left. May be against maritime laws or the cruise line policy. Just looking for a quick answer before I sit on hold with CS. Anyone ever done this?

2 people is 2 people, regardless of age for cruise cabins,

I’m willing to pay for the third person being the 10 month old. Just seems stupid that I would have to get a second “free” room for my wife (since the 10 month old would have to be booked with one of us). Carnival could make more money just allowing me to pay for the infant and add him to our two person room. Instead, they would lose out on money from me booking a second room with no one in it, and I would be able to just buy one cheers package instead of two.

@Riles34 We tried to book a 2 person suite with a 10 month old.  Carnival was adamant that they cannot do that.  We had to book a 3 person room.  Good luck, maybe you will get someone at Carnival to allow you to do this

Yea that’s what I figured. Carnival will just be losing money if I have my wife book her free room which will be empty. We were just looking for a quick 4 day out of NYC, but the only three person rooms left are balconies which runs about $3,000 for a 4 day. I guess we will just spend our money for a weekend getaway with all three kids.

A room that can only accommodate two can only accommodate two, it doesn't matter if the third person you want to bring is 3 months old or 30 years old. I don't think that's difficult to comprehend but what do I know...

Saying you'll just go somewhere else won't change this fact, it just seems churlish.

Are there adjoining rooms left?  If possible have your wide book the adjoining room.  It would give you that much more room plus an extra bathroom 🙂

It's not Carnival.  it's the regulations they have to follow.  They have to have a bed in that room for each person. Doesn't matter if they are 6 mo or 100, there has to be a berth for them.  The fact you're upset that they won't break the rules for you(which could get them in trouble) says more about you than it does about them.

Ahhh I was waiting on your negative comment as that’s your standard. I am fully capable of getting two rooms or a larger room if that’s the policy. I was just asking if others were able to do it since an infant is 23” and not a grown adult. I am not looking for a “free” passenger. Saying I will go somewhere else just meant a different vacation and nothing towards the cruise industry. Thanks for your wonderful opinion.

We have booked two rooms in the past and have slept 5 in a 3 person room, so don’t be so certain with yourself.

That isn't the point.  Passenger count includes lifeboat berths so which of you would be left behind?

Here's number two, then.  No, there are no exceptions for number of bodies assigned to staterooms/lifeboats.

WOW! It was a simple question asking if someone has done it before. I just thought asking here would be easier than waiting on hold for an hour. I am not upset at all about laws or with Carnival. Was just asking about a possible option. No where did I ever say I was upset. Free vs $3,000 is an easy decision to not go. It was just going to be a quick weekend getaway. So much anger in this world!

Have done this since 2001. The cruise line even gets your sail and sign card assigned to the right rooms before you even board. We book the two rooms across from one another. So please tell me that this never happens. Also, how is it any different than people hooking up and staying in another room? They don’t police the rooms…

You question was fine, but your replies seemed a bit snarky towards carnival and their rules.

It never happens that too many people are assigned to lifeboats.

I have zero issue with carnival. Almost 20 sailings and never been a victim or complainer about the product. People just started to attack me thinking that I thought I was above the law. Not what I was saying at all. I was just asking if this had happened in the past, or if it was maritime law or carnival policy that wouldn’t allow it.

Admin should just delete this thread…

How many life jackets were in that 3 person room?

Adjacent staterooms are not necessarily assigned to the same muster station.

Depends on the ship. Life jackets are stored at the muster stations on the newer ships. There is no policy on how many people can sleep in one room, ask the pineapple crowd!

This went off the rails. I asked a simple question and then everyone except one person who had the response I was expecting, started talking about lifeboats, life jackets, who is allowed to sleep in a room and on and on….

My original post stated that I assumed it was not permitted to have an infant stay in the same room without getting a second one due to maritime law and Carnival policy. I was just trying to confirm it from other cruisers instead of waiting on hold with CS. I never stated that I was above the policies or complaining about Carnival not allowing me to do this. Just trying to see if it was possible for the wife and I to do a quick cruise with an infant and book a two person room. If they had a three person room available, this would have never been asked. It was a simple question and we will not do this cruise which is what I expected.

I imagine there are interior cabins for 3 available, but not through the casino for the cruise you are looking at. What date were you considering?

I can't say for certain, but I have heard that exceptions have been made in this one instance, assuming that lifeboat space was available where the third person doesn't actually need a berth. The only people that can make that exception is Carnival themselves, and they don't need to do this.

No exceptions.  One lifeboat seat per heartbeat.

You may be right on the 1 v 1, but I was just granted an exception. I was told that in my muster station area there were multiple solo cruisers and it would not affect the outcome of lifeboats. So every rule has an exception. Cost me $163 to make this happen. Guess I should have just called instead of listening to a bunch of negative people.
